While I was frantically deleting clips before posting, I cut out me asking if you'd like more book related videos. So at the end, it sounds like I'm babbling about something I never even asked... 🙃 The question still stands, though. xx

Eckhart Tolle’s books are life-changing. Definitely takes an open and curious mind to take the journey with his teachings. So many layers to his books, you can read them over and over and gain some new insight every time.

I always read 1 fiction and 1 non fiction book at a time 😊 works fine for me. I also write down which book I finished when and if I liked loved or hated it and which number it is (started counting in 2019) and if I'll keep it. It's always cool to look back on that list and see how much I read when, which book took me how long, etc...

Ahh that's so cool you like Savannah Brown too!! I'm just as much of a culprit -- pre-ordered the second it was available and still haven't read it xD I even have the audiobook by Sav, but I haven't gotten around to listening. Trying to read more myself these days! I read a lot for my job (I'm an editor), so it's been tough to also read for pleasure. Currently vacillating between The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue, Treasure Island, and Frankenstein :)

  • @mirkatofficial

    That’s such a varied TBR!
Okay, so I’m currently reading The Sixth Extinction. It’s very good but quite harrowing. Surprisingly readable, even given the science. Due to the speed of climate change, I keep thinking dourly there’s probably a newer edition of it than the one I’m working on.
The last couple books I’ve finished were fiction (Half A Soul, Spinning Silver, other books by the same authors). I don’t know that I’d recommend them (the Scholomance books in particular I really don’t like despite maybe having the author’s best protagonist), but I finished each book in like a day. Sometimes you want that fantasy/fairytale but just slightly off. Not like, Tim Burtonesque. Both Half A Soul and Uprooted are clearly inspired by Howl’s Moving Castle, for example. More like...inspired by fairytales rather than trying to readapt an old one. Half A Soul is very...hm. The setting is so interesting but the prose is iffy. I got into it because I was promised book 3 is going to be f/f and apparently the romance in book two is a fairy duke or something, which sounds fun. We Shall See.
My strongest recommendation of the last year is definitely The Five. It’s maybe one of my favorite history books of all time, despite being largely speculative about it’s subjects. But the research and the empathy for the Ripper’s victims are very clear. It’s a phenomenal book, and it’s nice to see a book focused on the Victorian lowerclass that doesn’t feel like it’s looking down on them OR giving them virtues above real human beings. Especially women. Excellent book.
