    Caroline, your videos are a consistent inspiration to me and make me excited yet apprehensive for law school. Keep being your true and authentic self, any firm that turns you down for your TH-cam channel is not worthy of your presence. I’m sure you will land a great summer job nonetheless. Stay strong this semester and keep finding time to do things for yourself. Maybe this will motivate you, but I just accepted a job as a legal assistant and I’m putting off law school for another year, but just remember people like me would absolutely die for a spot at UMich!!! Best of luck and I’m looking forward to more of your videos :)

    What if you're on call but you didn't prepare for the material? Do the teachers keep asking you questions until you cry or they deduct points from you?

    • @LegallyCaroline
      @LegallyCaroline  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Noo, they’re not mean haha. You can just say you don’t know or you didn’t get the chance to do the reading, and they’ll move on. If it only happens once, they won’t deduct points or anything. But if it happens too many times, they’ll make a note of it when giving final grades!

  • @yxwakita2730
    @yxwakita2730 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    we used to form groups to get the readings done collectively.. each one reading a section and writing down the notes to share with the group. Do people do that in law school?

    • @LegallyCaroline
      @LegallyCaroline  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooh that’s smart, I’m sure some people do that, but I think most people in law school prefer to do the readings themselves, especially in 1L when you can be cold called on anything

    Go blue! I miss Michigan so much 😭
    If there's anything I've learned in sports and how it applies to law school is that *it's alright to take a break if you don't understand what you're doing wrong*
    It helps in so many ways. For starters, you'll give your brain a break and you'll train your muscle memory (brain) the right way.
    It just helps. Trust me.

    • @LegallyCaroline
      @LegallyCaroline  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Go blue!! I definitely missed out on part of the Michigan experience this year so hoping that next year I'll get the full experience, I really want to go to a football game lol. and yes!! that's great advice, I found myself taking a lot of naps/breaks last week and at first I felt guilty, but I realized it was quite helpful

    • @patrickisles2067
      @patrickisles2067 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LegallyCaroline it is!! Taking breaks is hard but it's so crucial for your mental health. That and talking to your friends and a therapist.

    How many pages a day do you have to read .💁🏻

    • @LegallyCaroline
      @LegallyCaroline  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really depends on the class/day! For con law, it’s only about 9-12 pages, but it’s dense. For crim, it’s like 30-40. For my seminar, it can be anything from like 30-60!

    • @MegaMusicMuse
      @MegaMusicMuse 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @LegallyCaroline
      @LegallyCaroline  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s per class! So for my seminar I only have it once a week, so I have the entire week to read. But for con/crim, I have it 3 times a week. I know that in full-time 1L, we’re recommended that we don’t work at all since law school will take up all our time, but I’m sure a part time evening program will be different! Old offices had them too, they were put in when women joined the office work force more so in the 50-70s. They’re supposed to be a place for women to rest, nap and be away from men when they are having cramps or feeling unwell. I think it was a great space.

    Caroline, what does the professors race have to do with anything? I love your blogs, but pointing out race when it is irrelevant is wrong. I hope to be able to keep watching your channel.

    • @LegallyCaroline
      @LegallyCaroline  3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Why is race irrelevant here? Being white is a privilege that has contributed to his success, he now has the resources to research, write and teach about a variety of things. Instead of using his privilege and academic position to further scholarship on this issue, or any other issue, he chose to attempt to erase a major atrocity that impacted many East Asians, to try and tell them what their history actually is.
      His race impacts his writing and scholarship, and it shows. He was asked why he didn’t include any Korean sources and his response was because he didn’t know Korean, which is ridiculous. And the fact that he was able to get away with that is because of his race, if an Asian professor had written an article on an American historical event but didn’t reference a single English source, do you think it would have the same success?
      I’m not saying being white is the only reason he‘s had a successful career, but it certainly makes his path easier. I’m also not saying that him being white is what makes his article wrong, if he was any other race it would still be wrong. But as a white person, he has the privilege to do more wrong and get away with it, which happened here, and also a responsibility to do better, which he went the opposite direction here and it should be pointed out. The legal profession, including those with the most privilege, especially have a responsibility to address the role race plays in society, in academia and in everyday lives, especially considering how racialized, if not outright racist, the justice system and other institutions have become. And I will continue to do that.

      @@LegallyCaroline What you are expressing here is your opinion and not facts. You have no idea what it like to be another race and you should be smart enough to see that. This myth of white privilege that you have been taught in your universities is ridiculous. If the study you are talking about is bad then point out his poor research or dispute facts in the study which is how you should have been taught to evaluate research in the first place. You are an extremely privileged Asian woman who gets to attend a top law school where your race, gender and nationality were surely considered in your admission. That being said, you calling out someone else's privilege is rich indeed. I had high hopes about your channel and had enjoyed it, but as a Caucasian male I realize I am not welcome here.
