The Olympus e300 DSLR four thirds camera has a unique mirror known as a Porro Prism system. I was lucky to buy one cheap and it came in mint condition. Matched with the kit lenses and a fast 25mm f/2.8 nifty fifty it was a pleasure shooting with this classic from 2004.
This is a quick intro. I will also upload some POV walks I did at the Little India town of Harris Park in Sydney on the the Indian New year Harvest festival known as Baisakhi or Vaisakhi. I took some day photos and night photos. Night shots where a challenge even with my f2.8.. Being a DSLR it just goes to show how spoilt we are with modern mirrorless cameras these days.
The Kodak CCD sensor stands up well and the image quality was great (with good light). As for the film like look... Who knows... It sounds romantic but in the end it just looks like a camera from 2004... Probably because it is... LOL... Thanks. stay tuned for a few more vids on this little beauty...

"Iguana" Porro ...... hahahahahaha.
Lovely cam, and nice vid.
Cheers from Mexico City.
Lol.. I'm sure that's his name. Haha.. thanks and big help to Mexico city.. Hola 😆
Great video as always mate, when I watched you E500 video I ended up getting one so I'll probably end up with the E300 now 😅
haha. yes you got the bug... I like them both. the e500 def more reliable. had to get used to the eye piece for e300.. kept hitting my eye on center of camera.
Nice video.
Panasonic and Leica made 4/3 cameras with the porro prism as well.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 and the Leica Digilux 3 have similar general design features, but different sensors - and a huge (anything but nifty) Leica Elmarit 14-50 mm f/2.8-3.5 optically image-stabilized zoom kit lens.
I happen to have both the Leica Digilux 3 and the Olympus E-500 , and the lenses are interchangeable - I just have to set the aperture to auto on the Leica lenses and control the aperture through the camera body, when I use Leica lenses on the E-500.
Thanks so much. I searched and didn't know this. Cool.. 😎 I wonder why no one ever replicated it?
@@robdido They were all 4/3 cameras. I guess when they moved on to Micro 4/3, they didn't need the Porro prism to create range finder style designs any more, and no one else picked it up for the APS-C and full frame DSLR cameras. Perhaps it would have made the camera too bulky with larger sensors?
Iguana Porro!! That looks like a nice bit of kit. I still use my (broadly similar) E620 but probably not as much as I should. It's a lovely camera and it's best attribute is the fact that it's very basic.
I like that picture of Jerry too.
I love the basic but then complain on all I'm missing out on with modern cameras haha.. I need to get off eBay. Yeah Jerry always saves the day. My hot rate was very bad with the 2 walks I did. Coming up
Fun video! (By the way, did you use different audio? It sounds clipped as if an aggressive noise filter were used.)
Thanks. I'm needing feedback on audio. Struggling with it. I used zv1 with a boom mic. Then post raised the bottom to get rid of background noise. My big room sounds echo reverby too. I think I'll start using my rode wireless. Do you mean clipped like can't hear voice?
I had the Panasonic version of this camera. The only 4/3 DSRL they made before going m4/3. I loved that camera and sold it just a few years ago.
I was reading about that one. Looks like they copied the e330... That mirror never really caught on. Shame I don't mind it.
Jerry shots 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😍😍😍
Bum bum
I think Roberto and Jerry would make a great paparazzi team....😎👍

My first 4/3 camera was an e-330 - i.e. the successor to yours, and it had the same mirror arrangement.
And no - it wasn't much better in low light.
I was looking it up. Flippy up screen too. Should have got that. Haha.. too much GAS
I agree with you Roberto, after all, who doesn’t like Hercule Poirot by Agatha Christie.
Yes. He is better than the police 😆
@@robdido Almost as good as inspector Clouseau from the Pink Panther films🤣
Can i ask what metering mode you use? Everytime i tske a photo with a hint of sky, the foreground becomes extremely under exposed. You dont seem to be having that issue. Thank you.
Sky usually blows out for me 😆 I just use the normal matrix. Sometimes I might use center weighted and focus center on what is the brightest.. otherwise could use bracket and blend later in post
@@robdido Thank you form that. That's good to know. I thought it was just me! By the way I love your videos. Your style of videos is so engaging and fun. Thanks ❤️
@@LetsMakeGhosts thanks. Trying to make it fun learning myself.
