How exciting! He's so beautiful! I'd be freezing, though. I just gotta say, I hope he's not lost. Oh, Wow! Great focus on his face when he was in flight!!!!!!! You got some great pics!!!! It rarely freezes here; but we had a hard freeze Christmas week; and the Humane Society kept our bat colonies alive. They rescued hundreds of bats that had fallen from their roost after experiencing hypothermia. I think it ended up being over a thousand. They were able to revive them and return them to their specific colonies. There were two major, well-known colonies they rescued. One is a major tourist attraction here.
Brilliant photographs, so good I think I can see fishing line caught in the tree. Superb action shots. Just awesome to see you guys enjoying the great outdoors! ❤️
@@CattailChronicles Strasburg out east. Originally from Lakewood and Littleton areas…. As of recently we have had a great horned owl hanging out in our tree. I spent 7 hours taking pictures two months ago and it just was hanging out!
Great photos. Those kingfishers are quick little guys. I got a few shots of one eating a crawdad. The bird I really want a good picture of is the cedar waxwing. I've had such a hard time with then.
How do you go about photographing with the tele lens and no tripod? That first photo looked to be amazing! Very different to our kingfishers. There is a river near me and Tuesdays video you’ll see I found zero and no herons either which are usually common for that river. Probably too cold for them to stay for long perhaps. 2:27 I’ll get back to the video now 😁😂
I took a picture of my first kingfisher ever the other day, I believe it was a Belted kingfisher. Didn't even know we had them in Arizona! Now I'll always be on the lookout for them.
What a great sighting! Your kingfisher in the states is very different bird to here in the UK which is bright blue with orange chest. I am yet to get photo of one in flight
That was a female Belted King Fisher. Males have no red/orange on the chest, white only. If the neck band had still been red/orange then it would have been immature and we would not have been able to determine the sex yet. We have lots of Belted King Fishers in the Puget Sound area. They are so small though that it is very difficult to get close enough to them to make it worth getting a picture. 10 yards or less is my goal. Last weekend I caught one hovering. The light was poor so my shutter was slow, 1/320, but that made a neat affect, body frozen but wings in motion. BTW, nice Cyber Truck hoodie. I wear a Cyber Truck hat while birding, I don't think most people know what my hat is showing.
Great photos and video of the kingfisher! I don't have any great shots of them! They are always so far away!!! One segment of your video I could see fishing line hanging by the bird!!!! I could see the weights, swivel and hook!!!😱😱😱😱 Next time you go to this location take something with you and try to remove it!!! This can kill a bird quickly!!!!😳😳😳👍👍👍
Yes I noticed this when at the computer. I did contemplate brining a long trimmer but the problem is this is an incredibly popular fishing spot and it dripping with line everywhere. Extremely disappointing. However since I know that is a fav spot for the kingfisher I might sneak out to just that tree and do some stealthy trimming.
Great video and excellent shots! Kingfishers are fun and very challenging. I think their rattle call is them laughing at us as they fly away. lol. FYI...the bird you were photographing was a female. Unlike most birds, the female is the more colorful of the pair. A male has no rust color on its breast.
Oh thanks for the correction! I read the id book wrong. And I agree that they are laughing as they fly past at the speed of light and we can barely get a photo!
Thank you @Deb2Cam for the id correction. We spotted a female belted kingfisher. They are one of the few birds that the females are flashier. Thanks!

That darn fishing line right? It's EVERYWHERE at this pond. Super popular fishing spot.
That's exciting. I enjoyed all the images. Great find and I hope you do go back. Don't forget to take us along. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Patty, will do!
Amazing video guys! Love the belted kingfisher shots!! 🎉
Thanks it was a thrill. Saw another one along the river while out driving yesterday too. I'm on the lookout!
They are awesome! I was excited when I realized they were year round in Colorado too! Definitely one of my favorites here.
Same here! What part of Co are you in?

Thanks! Now I'm on the lookout for kingfishers all over town!
Incredible guys👍👍👍❤
Thanks!

There is pretty good stabilization in the gear, we use at least 1/500s shutter speed and we hold the camera braced to our body. And lots of practice:)

Thanks. I have a pinned comment with the correction. Love Puget Sound! They Cynertruck logo is pretty obscure:)
nice video of a hard to capture bird. She sure is a pretty gal!!!
