The O.C. is an American teen drama television series created by Josh Schwartz that originally aired on the Fox network in the United States from August 5, 2003, to February 22, 2007, running a total of four seasons.
In today's video we will be taking a look at the worst season of the show and the one that lead to its downfall, season 3.
Not only Jasper, but also James and Rosalie from Twilight.
there's that soo common trop in the teen drama of a sweet but wild rich girl who had or has a drug/parents issue and who has a desire or is driven by her surroundings to go trough a redemption, also most of the time she's promiscuous :
Jennifer of Dawson Brooks
Marissa from The Oc
Peyton from One Tree Hills
Serena from Gossip Girl
Veronica from Riverdale.
This type of character had never been treated well. They never know what to do with it. And that becomes more of a baggage of the character or becomes his only character trait. Or the plot is completely abandoned aka Payton
The best handled are Serena and Jennifer, but once that character arc is over, they either repeat it or continue to have a story around it without making any statements.
Worst case scenario is here : it's Marissa.
I think her character is so interesting and deserves some real exploration. Like we never know what's going through her head or how she handles the things she's going through. We have glimpses, we understand it a little but we don't know it.
In a way, that feel very realistic, as if we were Ryan, and not understanding her, we can only try to guess and fail. Making her death, injust and undeserved. Yet somehow inevitable.
More so for her character, since they used
paris hilton during her time in prison.
the terrible fall of lyndsay lohan
and the actress herself how was having a terrible time
she was only 18 during this season and was addicted and surrounded by terrible hollywood people.
The season finale kinda tells any young girl who struggles with mental health and unfortunately finds solace in substance that there is no hope.
I really hope we finaly get a good representation and arc for this type, of acttually pretty comun in real life, story.
this might be an unpopular opinion but i really like marissa and volchok relationship, It was unhealthy but it was obvious he cared and i really hoped during my first watch that he was going to change for her.
She choose him at at dark time of her life, he's link to all her bad side, but is also the only one who will stick with her no matter what and support her during her darkest time.
He is clearly sooo into her but because of his pride and the feeling of being a replacement for Bryan he never open up and truly act like he wish he should.
They this constent weight to their relationship, to when is he gonna mess up, when will she see , she deserve better.
so his atburst during the prom seems coherant and it showed how much the truly cared and he cared about her.
The amount of disapointment and resentment is proof of how much they liked each other but were unable to convey it.
I really like this type of longging. If the writter choose to make it work, we could had during season 4 , him doing community service and in his own way changing. Have marrissa go to a local and small university, also workind on her free time, living with him in a small appartement.
Making her trully working on her mental health, daddy and mommy issue and bulding a healthy couple
Showing that they are growing because and with each other. That they choose to better themself to be able to stay as a couple.
That why when he came back at the finale and she agree to go with him. When she had it all figure it out, to me was not her falling to the darkness once again but her choosing him since she loves him. I really hoped they tried with them....
