This song, lyrically, is the best ever penned. It's a shame (and more than a bit telling) that people don't "get it". DVN was, by far, the greatest a capella group to have ever performed. And, for every group that attempts to perform this in the future, two things: 1) Great choice, and 2) Don't forget the Boy Band Choreography! That really makes it! Thanks so much for uploading this!
Heartfelt admiration of the performance. Information about how the song made me feel. Question about Bernie. Part of the comment nobody will read because 4 sentences is too much for the average attention span.
An official video would be wonderful, but DVN mostly broke up in 2005 or so. The guys have gotten together once or twice since then, but mostly it's Paul & Storm recording as a duo. I must have seen DVN 25 times when they were together... probably the best act I ever saw.
I feel it could be a couple things that happened to Bernie. He seems fine and apart of the show when he asks for help up, but if you watch as he is spun its clear something isn't the same to him as before just based off his body reaction. He looks like he is trying to regain his equilibrium and balance when he pushes against the wall prop then moving to the corner. It could have also been a combination of that and stage fright. People believe stage fright is only bad when you are walking onto stage, but a lot of times you end up thinking about it throughout the whole performance. One mistake can mentally crush you as the performer. As an audience member, you have no idea what is happening or that anything is wrong or not part of the performance; so its important as the performer to remember that minor mistakes are exactly that, minor. Don't stop singing or stop the performance because you said the wrong words or fell over. That is what makes a live performance special; improving and showing smooth differences in the regular recording you allow the audience a second view of the work, live. Did he come out after this song and continue performing or was this the last song they did that night? If he came back it makes me think it could be part of the act and him not explaining is just their way of not speaking on it.
This concert was a *long* time ago, so I don't remember where exactly in the set this song was. My recollection is that Bernie continued to perform, as no one in the audience was concerned about him in any way. If you ever saw DVN perform, they were always running around the stage and doing funny things, Bernie's actions here were not significantly different than a normal DVN performance. Still, I wish he had said what the problem was when I asked (quoted WAY down below in these comments). FWIW, I do have one other song posted from DVN from this performance: "Magic Kingdom in the Sky." It's wonderful, and Bernie is perfect in it. I think that was before "Title of the Song," however.
You're welcome! It was Bernie Muller-Thym that seemed to have some sort of injury. What (if anything) happened to him was not mentioned. I had the impression that his feelings were hurt about something but really have no idea. I think DVN did "Secret Asian Man" at this show but I didn't get it on tape. I did get DVN's version of "Sgt. Pepper's/With a Little Help From My Friends" but haven't uploaded it yet. Thanks for stopping by!
I sent a message to Bernie and asked about what happened. Here's what he said: "Unfortunately I had lots of problems on stage !! Thanks for caring. DVN is a dream now."
@drinkstwohanded I sent Bernie a note and asked. He replied but it didn't really clear up what happened. Scroll all the way to the bottom of these comments and read from the bottom... his comment about it is down there.
My guess as to what happened to Bernie is this: Maybe he got overheated from the bright lights beaming on him and he almost passed out. There's other guesses I could make, but I think the one above is the most likely.
@bbstenor419 I suggest going to the web site of Paul Sabourin and Storm DiConstanza, who wrote the song. Go to paulandstorm (dot) com and leave a message. There is a davincisnotebook (dot) com site, but it looks like it has been hijacked from the band's original site.
Thanks for posting this. I used to love listening to these guys on the Bob and Tom Show. What happened to the guy that went off stage? I'm also looking for Secret Asian Man.
Audio quality isn't as good as the album copy, but the video and ad-libbing more than make up for it. . . these guys have GOT to make a proper music video of this.
@emilynrory You are very welcome. I don't know that this is the best song ever written, but it holds its own against some great songs. DVN was the whole package: excellent voices, superb songwriting and and a highly entertaining stage presence. They were maybe five years ahead of their time. If you haven't seen it, watch my upload of "Magic Kingdom in the Sky"... hilarious!
+ComeliaO7 If you go to the bottom of the comments and read a few from there, you'll see that I contacted the guy (Bernie) and asked what happened. He responded but didn't really address what happened. He was fine, however... I saw DVN perform a couple more times after that and he was always there.

thanks for the advice! me and my friends were planning to perform this for our school's talent show

Further extension of the joke in appreciation of your comment's cleverness.
Response in agreement regarding general public ADDDDDDD.
Repetition of the question about Bernnnnn(ie)
When he said title of the song, I felt that

@arjay1382 I don't know exactly what happened to Bernie, but read the comments down further for more information.
@recoveringatty11 Yeah, I really wanted to know what happened but he didn't say. At least I got the song on tape.
Thanks for posting this. I used to love listening to these guys on the Bob and Tom Show.
What happened to the guy that went off stage?
I'm also looking for Secret Asian Man.
@JTheFatalist Well said!
I'm extremely worried about the guy that had to back out
It was a long time ago, and he is doing fine.
Audio quality isn't as good as the album copy, but the video and ad-libbing more than make up for it. . . these guys have GOT to make a proper music video of this.
@CoasterFreak118 I know.... hilarious!

anybody know what happened to Bernie here?
@emilynrory i agree smart humor is wated on simple minds who only understand the joke if it is thrown in their face like a pie or followed by a fart
Haha so was guy ok??
