I was in kindergarten when this happened, I only had class for half a day and I didn't go in until later, so I was still at home with my mom the morning the attacks happened. I remember watching the news with her while it all happened live. I don't recall going to school that day and I remember for the next few weeks my parents mostly watched the news. It was a lot to process at that age seeing how all the adults were so scared after what happened and as a kid barely able to realize the magnitude

WHY DOES THIS SURPRISE YOU? PAGERS go off because THE GOVERNMENT NETWORK allows them to. That plane already escalated alerts because 911 calls were reporting a low flying aircraft. It started moving up the chain before anyone died yet. And yes the beepers go off after the delay in the system. A delay caused by their lower priority. The alert goes out to the people that matter first, civilians should try to stay out of the way and off the highways in a true crisis.

Bush said, “The first thing I tried to do was slow my thinking down. I said in my mind, “OK so you’re now the leader of a country that is under attack. Stay calm. You trained for this kind of emergency. You hope it never happens but you’re ready in case it does.” I knew the things we needed to do immediately, but I still feel pretty small in that moment. Since then, I've worked at Pixar as an intern, and Deck Nine as a game animator. I was in science class in 6th grade when it happened. The mean science teacher turned on the television during class and I remember her saying, "This is sick" or "This is disgusting." She had all the students watch it during class. After kids went back to place with their parents, that was when it was all over the news and parents explained what happened. The same generation that can't find jobs or make money right now. Nobody has ever had to deal with that before or since. Nobody could have prepared him for it, yet he handled it incredibly well.

Indeed. Thats the look of a President in shock and fear over such distressing news, but quickly composes himself. Whatever people might think of his policies, what happened in the immediate aftermath: W. Bush acted like a father to the nation. His formal addresses in the White House later that night and his visit/speech at Ground Zero (two?) days later. "America hears you. The world hears you. And the people who knocked these towers down will hear ALL OF US SOON!"

I remember my teacher started sobbing... Her brother worked at the twin towers.. It's burned into my memory. We couldn't understand why all the adults were hysterically crying and running in and out of one another's rooms saying saying turn the news on, but my teacher turned on the news. (Maybe she shouldn't have, but I bet a lot of teachers did) and we saw the burning buildings.. We saw the people falling. She dropped to the floor in hysterics. That's when she said her brother works there.
The next day after my parents tearfully explained what happened, I realized she was crying because her brother was ... Not here anymore. She was allowed as much time off as she needed, to cope, and deal with family arrangements.
      I was in 3rd grade.
