Dear TH-cam, I am writing to report TFS for stealing my video and uploading it on his channel. The bad lip syncing was really funny, I'm going to steal that.
Man, at first I thought maybe you and TOT had some beef going! Super glad to see it is an homage, and a right fine one at that. You never disappoint, sir. Thanks again for some great information, and for sharing your knowledge.
all jokes aside, after watching countless of your presentations and those of other expert welders, I’ve learned one of the characteristics of a great welder is the guy who thinks “I can do better. How/what do I practice to improve my work?” Great video, Justin!
You said it right! Dont be afraid to learn it, it might be expensive and frustrating learning to weld at first, but it was worth it. I do it as a hobby now, and it took a lot of time learning, going to some classes, etc. i just bought what i could in the beginning and slowly bought a better machine. I have been watching your series during the covid period and have come a long ways, ! Thank you again!
Keep up the good work young man im 59 just started learning to tig weld about 2 years ago i have the prime weld 225 been doing the job . I have learn a lot from you . I been mig welding for 40 years and still at it restoring cars truck ex building frame and and hotrods and such . So thank you for doing great to the point videos.
I've seen many of your videos. Stumbled across this one today. And it's hilarious. Right away I knew. I watch both of you. Disnt know other welders were so close. This is great. Made my day lol.
This old tony is hands down the best video editor on ebay. I love both of these guys but this old tony was my first so.. I'll keep buying from them as long as they is selling. This is why I love Twitter
Lmao that was funny. When you grabbed your soda I was rolling..Good job on that it’s not easy to stay in script. Jeff is the man. It’s all about stacks and dabs.
hahaha, this video made my day ;) went straight to tony's channel, new to me, then laught in tears even more as I understood more of this analogy in Your vid and rolled on the floor while watching his vid about gas flow rates :D thanks guys, not only I've learned about frequency and weld width relationship and probably learned how to fix my cooked stainless pipe welds (turbo manifolds) with simply more gas flow, but I also had great time having this YT classes :) Good job gentlemen.
Enjoyed the style change-up. Very cool. As a design engineer i would offer a couple of thoughts: The smoother and more consistent the weld bead the better. You don't want excessive variation in cross section along the weld, so the very pronounced big dab with a gap then another big dab, is not great functionally, particularly in fatigue. Also big welds standing up off the surface create a stress concentration at the toe of the weld. Like driving a car fast, smooth is good. I know people like the whole "stack of dimes " thing but it isn't great functionally to try to make it more pronounced. In moderation it shows tig welding rather than stick i guess and people like to have that hallmark visible. Just in moderation guys... particularly for anything seeing fluctuations in load.
I never quite understood the whole stack of dime appeal. I prefer a smooth looking weld. I also tend to agree with you on internal stresses accumulating between the highs and lows on a variable stack of dimes. Wether or not that is testable and proves itself in the real world would need to be tested. I think that fatigue tests would need to be performed to show the results one way or the other. Common sense tells me that the low spots in a stack of dimes are the beginnings of where a stress crack would form.
Hey, look! We're "Justin" time for a new video from This Old Phoney!😆 Love the Godzilla lip sync and blurred hands bit. I'm glad I woke up in time to see it! Funny video! Peace
Great video, what could be said about some beads being shiny and others aren’t all on the same piece of material. I’m having similar experience and would like to know why. Thanks!
Hard to see the puddle... Little flashes of it here and there but as a newbie for which this video was intended, darker and this note focused on the electrode and puddle and filler is more useful and closer to the welding experience for better reference. However, your points and dialogue are spot on. Thank you for the content. I'm looking forward to making it to Vegas one day soon.
warping is usually just part of welding 1/8' plate, although you can correct it by using a rubber hammer and correcting it as you go. Your starts are really important, Watch that you give it enough fill right away and this will help it to stay a little cooler. I also recommend using several plates at once. Do a pass on one, then switch to another plate that is cool, and so on. This helps a lot to keep things from cooking up on ya too much! Cheers Dusty
Just noticed that you move your filler rod vertically. I've been moving mine horizontally. That's why I keep touching the electrode. Got a job to do this weekend and I'm going to try this. I'll let you know how it goes.
I think you did a great job I don't know who this other guy is you guys were referring to but I like the fact that you dubbed over because you were talking slower and sometimes you talk really really fast and I can't follow along and I have to listen to you two or three times so I found it very interesting and I enjoyed it I'm 61 years old and I just bought my first TIG welder
Beautiful welds. Would these be as strong as MIG welds? I mean do they just look pretty or are they strong welds? And were you using a foot 🦶 pedal? Many thanks 🙏
Nice job at trying not to laugh your ass off. Lol. I actually did learn quite a lot from this video. As of now I still have not picked up a welding torch of any kind but I figure the more I know beforehand possibly the better I will do on my first pass. Beware, I’m fixen to binge watch the he double hockey sticks out of your channel.
TIG does a nice job and looks easy. However, there are a lot of settings and things to know. It's kinda like a combination lock... Ya gotta get ALL things right (gas settings, machine settings, rod sizes, rod types, etc.etc.) if you want good results. As a total newbie.... I thank you for clearing up all the little details. I'm SLOWLY starting to get it together.
Awesome i loved the drink outside of the blue it reminded me of the 90s when whistle blowers would come out a talk about aliens. Keep up the great videos i have learned slot that wasn't really fought in school.
Do tig welds have to look like pretty dabs? All I have is a weldpro multiprocess mig 200 DC welder. I have been practicing with the tig, but mostly get flat looking welds. The penetration and structural soundness seems to be there, but it’s not real pretty.
Must be sumptin' in the water in Las Vegas. Here in Bangkok, cannot get a TIG machine with A/C balance for alumininiumummma. Pulse TIG machines with adjustments, but no non pulse fun-justments.
Trying to learn on my old P&H 300 HFGW so I dont have the ability to change frequency. Still have not found a foot pedal for it yet. So I still have to set it and ROLL.
Can believe I had to watch this video to hear about TOT! Thanks Justin now between these two series I have 0 free time budget left. Not sure the wife is happy about this but... I'm ok with it. Lol
it would be cool to issue a challenge to come up with the absolute minimum viable setup for welding aluminum, and have someone else try to determine which weld bead was made by which setup. some super ghetto janky stuff, like maybe an off-the-shelf inverter for a car, coupled with the guts of one of those plasma ball desk toy for HF start
I know what the point of this video was, you were just showing of your amazing ali welding skills. Wish my Ali welding can be so easy and excellent as yours one day
I’ve been tig welding aluminum for years, my biggest problem is consistency. Using a very old Miller 250, for the past five years almost all of my welds are buffed off. Consistency never mattered, just production, and clean welds.
Justin, This video was very helpful as is a lot of the guys on Instagram, I dig how you put these topics out there I am in a specialized group of Marine fabricators welding Anodized Pipe. when I started the standard was a torch mounted on off button, now many are pulsing with a foot pedal I would like to see some of your stuff go a bit toward the anodized stuff,,,,,, thanks and I am a long time subscriber. I would also like to know how the Everlast machines are holding up
Hi, love your Videos, I have just bought an old Migatronic 320 MTE ( having tried 3 Chinese machines which I just could not get to work at all) and am struggling to get it to weld Aluminium , bought a new Foot pedal as I thought that might help me ?? but still not great, I am mainly trying to butt weld 16Swg /1.5mm (Car Bodies) I am getting a lot of black pepper and every now and then the whole weld pool like frosts over like it has a skin on it before it all caves in, so any advice would be appreciated, Regards Eddie
Hey Art by Adrock sent me. I’m in welding school and need some help on tig welding and mig can get a straight line. Could you do a video on some tips on how to keep the bubble going.
I think I have never heard is how much filler do you put in the pool try marking the filler rod to.try to keep up with the amount for each dap ,then they should be equal
Many heavy hitters on TH-cam and Instagram is using this setup! One thing is that you don't burn your screen when you dip the tungsten and blow up aluminium inside the collet. You don't need the same kind of gas protection on alu as you do on e.g. stainless.
To add to that and go in more depth... Theres not as big of a cleaning area with a smaller/regular collet cup. Best way I've heard it explained is the aluminum only reacts where there is gas coverage. So since you aren't flooding as much material with gas, you get smaller cleaning (frosted) area. It's really just preference, but for some jobs, one might be more fitting over another. I feel like I get better welds out of a #7 gas lens, but working with getting more used to the #5. Plus anywhere you go will more likely have a regular #5 or 6 over any gas lens.
I am a welding student at Fortis College here in Georgia, currently I'm in TIG Welding and TIG Welding Applications. I realize not only after watching your video (Always Great Content) on my other TH-cam account (Jeff Darwin). When dabbing, yea we want a straight and true bead, but does it really matter at what angle and area of the puddle you lay your dab when TIG welding? As Always thank you Justin! #thefabricator
I carried a short piece of rod around with me and practiced hand feeding while I was driving watching TV 100% improved my feeding skiils fast with the added bonus I stopped touching myself well slowed down anyway
I have been watching everybody and I mean everybody trying to figure this out. I think I got it! Move the trailing edge of the cone over the weld with each dab for even spacing. I think this will improve my chicken***t tig welding. Hey that might be the name of my imaginary retired company! And thanks everybody.
I don't understand those settings: 60% cleaning, 80% EN and 100% EP. That doesn't add up. Like, literally. Where do these 3 different percentages come from? I thought the AC balance was, say 60%-40% and one side of the balance is more cleaning, the other more penetration.
Dear TH-cam, I am writing to report TFS for stealing my video and uploading it on his channel.
The bad lip syncing was really funny, I'm going to steal that.
I'm really curious how you'd go about a bad lip sync haha. Thanks for inspiring!
Hey ToT, TFS said that he could weld better than you... I believe we need a weld-off.
@@johnroach2378 Why didn't anyone tell me I said that? I'm always the last to know...
This!!!
The Fabrication Series Two words... weld off!
This Old Tony has mad editing skills and a style all his own. I got the tot reference 5 seconds into the video...great job!
I was wondering what the mess was goin on 😂
for me lt was the hand movements
I got the TOT vibe immediately with the audio edits & the "hand talking". Nice touch!
Man, at first I thought maybe you and TOT had some beef going! Super glad to see it is an homage, and a right fine one at that. You never disappoint, sir. Thanks again for some great information, and for sharing your knowledge.
One does want just a hint of suspense, right?
I'm not big on TH-cam drama haha. It's a waste of internet space.
I got the reference about 10 seconds in, love it! This Old Tony is a legend of TH-cam, makers, and hobbyists alike!
I honestly hadn't watched a ToT video yet. Now I have two favorite YT channels and can't seem to get anything done. THANKS A LOT~!

just the best.....! you make us smile and teach us at the same time.....TOT would be proud...
I agree I'm in welding school and my teacher had me use a thicker rod and I kind of liked it and learned when to use it.
Justin, I really enjoyed this, the humor was not lost on me!
Well done sir!
So beyond the visual differences, are there any differences in strength, resistance to bending, cracking? Increased penetration?
Watched this a few times over the years ... now I'm about to be certified ...thanks man
Great comedy and education. Thanks for both channels guys. Love watching both of you.
It's your preference... until, an Engineer tells you what your preference is.

I like the "this old tony" influence!

Came for the welding tips. Stayed for the comedy shenanigans of two of my favorite craftsmen.
will these weld characteristics and bead appearances carry over to mild steel or are these uniquely aluminum tips/adjustments?
Im watching your dab speed. Im new at welding, doing 1/8 peices of metal, 112 to 125 amps, metal seems to overheat and warp real quick. Thoughts?
warping is usually just part of welding 1/8' plate, although you can correct it by using a rubber hammer and correcting it as you go. im not a welder. can you go backward and perform a continuous feed ?
Make hobby video on a check fluxwire tips and a trick or .... and technique of fusion welding corners and brazing aluminum with stick

Why did you start using the “this old tony” style of talking. Your natural voice is the best.
Why do my aluminium welds on flat plate never build up 2mm plate. 60amps 140hz 7030 ratio 1/16 filler nothing I do works it always blends in
Why the regular collet body and #5 cup on aluminum? First ive seen someone say they prefer that over a gas lense.
Many heavy hitters on TH-cam and Instagram is using this setup! One thing is that you don't burn your screen when you dip the tungsten and blow up aluminium inside the collet. You don't need the same kind of gas protection on alu as you do on e.g. stainless.
