    honestly, i'm proud of the guy for admitting his limitations. as a native kentuckian, i know that that cave is scary and it's understandable why he had a panic attack. i probably would have too. honestly as a veterinary student, the wildlife and biology aspects are my favorite.

    I did the Wild Cave Tour with my daughter maybe 14 years ago. We down there for 6.5 hours and had a pretty adventurous group and some young guides so we got the full monty. We did all the ones in this video (the bare hole war funny...the guy in front of me got stuck so I had to push him on the butt with my feet) but things really got interesting after our break. We did a chimney climb but we then descended down to the water level and crawled through this tunnel on our hands and knees with water cutting a channel in the rock. I got my foot stuck in the channel and when I finally got it free I kicked the woman behind me in the face (she had a nice shiner). We entered this three dome cathedral from this passage way and the guides said the sound down here was really great and would anyone like to sing a song? My daughter breaks out this beautiful Irish ballad sung in Gallic and we were all just amazed.

    I did the Wild Cave Tour about 25 years ago. It was a very memorable day, but I definitely would not attempt it again now. There were around 12 people, the maximum number allowed per day, and two guides. One of the guys, who was probably around the age that I am now, was not able to make it through one of the more challenging tight crawls, and had to go back with one of the guides. Do it while you're young and fit!

    I've done the crawl tour and it was amazing. You get to see parts of the cave no one really gets to see. This video doesn't even give it justice for how cool it was.

    @Jack&Colton Have you guys been to Hoosier National forest? It may not seem like much with its stands of virgin forest peppered with exposed lyme stone faces. But Just like people, the true beauty lies beneath. And the underworld has recently been made available again to the serious caving comunity! I was lucky enough to see a beautiful system called Breathing hole during last year's Cave Capers. If you're interested in being put in touch with the foremost experts as well as the holders of the map and key, I'd be happy to assist. Keep up the good work and stay safe. ^.^

    Oh wow. I'm so disappointed with the lack of decoration in the sections of Mammoth you were in. Then again, the only commercial cave I've been in is Carlsbad Caverns. All of the others I've been in have been wild. I can't count them all any more. My favorites though were ones in the Guadalupe cave system which Carlsbad is a part of. Hell Below, Three Fingers, Cottonwood, Hidden ,Lechuguilla, long before it was closed to everyone but researchers, Cave of the Madonna is where I almost lost my life way down near the end of the lower level, of all places, not on the 200+ foot drop into the main room.
    Oh to be young again and do it all over!

    • @RockTheParkOfficial
      @RockTheParkOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mammoth was pretty cool, if not the history alone. Carlsbad is in a league of it's own. We did the main cavern there as well as a little wild caving in another part of the park. It was a pretty insane experience.

      Cave tip... bring a flashlight... I finally realized I have one on my phone!! You don’t need one for safety reasons but there are plenty of things on the sides and walls and ceiling that aren’t illuminated that you want to see...

      How was it

    • @danmauller4069
      @danmauller4069 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@petvideoheaven3485 Just got back from my trip. I will definitely go back someday, but for now, very little of the cave is accessible, and it's a "self-guided" tour. Of course, it's not really guided at all, as there's no audio tour or booklet (not that you could read one in the dark anyway). But they have rangers posted throughout to answer questions, and they're quite skilled at answering questions with in-depth fascinating stories, so they're doing the best they can. But the 'best' parts of the cave system aren't accessible right now. However, the park itself - and the campground (which is where I stayed) - are very nice, and immaculately maintained. Some nice hikes above ground, ranger presentations in the evening. It was at such a presentation that I learned about Stephen Bishop, and was so intrigued, I bought a book about him. (Google 'Stephen Bishop Mammoth Cave') Overall, it's a fantastic National Park, it's just not really functioning on all cylinders right now. But I'll be back!!
