I am enjoying your explanations, and have subscribed to your channel, John.
How did you get the cicadas to be quite while you played the performance? ;-)
And could you please recommend any music by Couperin which does NOT go lower than a low C?
My harpsichord does not have the low B which is found in this ordre. Thanks!

Thank you! Concerning the cicadas, it's a matter of being patient and waiting until they get quiet, and then hope they won't start again before the recording is finished :-) And in a couple of instances, my wife actually went out in the garden and told them to be quiet :-) However, since I like summer, I won't complain too much! As for music by Couperin that doesn't go below C, that is a bit tricky -- French composers tended those low notes, so I'll have to think about that. On the other hand, I'm playing a Lebegue suite (g minor, from the second book of harpsichord pieces) that doesn't go below C. Different composer, I know, but worth exploring!

    What’s an 8th note?

It's the same as a quaver in British English (eighth note is the American terminology). Its duration is one-eighth of a whole note, hence the name. I wish I could type one so you could see it (if I could describe it, it's the one that has a stem and one flag), but I hope this description helps!
