Tsukuba Machine Check! The Fastest NA Car at Tsukuba - ASLAN EG6 CIVIC

- In the realm of Japanese time attack, you'd be hard pressed to find more exciting competition than that which the NA Class provides. The margin for error is almost non-existent and the drivers push their builds beyond what most people think they are capable of; it's truly one of the most competitive racing classes in motorsport. When I think of talented drivers in this arena, it's usually Ton that is first to come to my mind.
Ryusen 'Ton' Itou, with the support of Aslan's Yoshitaka Tani, has made a name for himself as the fastest NA car overall at Tsukuba, and the frontrunner in the sub-class of FF NA. Ryusen currently holds the NA record at Central Circuit (1’16.2), and has in the past held the FF NA Record at Tsukuba (2018-2019), and now in 2024 holds the overall NA Tsukuba record with a 54.931 - marking the first time a FF car has gone faster than 55 seconds.
We’ve been following Ton from as far back as 2016, and admittedly have seen him more often at his home track of Central rather than that of Tsukuba. He was featured in 80R Volume 1, and has several appearances on the website. Despite being based out of Osaka, Ton has campaigned his EG6 at TC2000 very successfully. The trek from Osaka to Ibaraki isn’t as intense as Hokkaido, in the case of Asai (GNR EK9 - 2023 NA Record Holder), but it’s still at least an 8 hour commitment one way. It’s definitely a factor when calculating seat time at the track and I’ve always taken it into consideration when comparing times. When I was first introduced to Ton’s EG back in 2016, the Aslan supported Civic didn’t have the widebody it’s so recognized for these days, instead had a more traditional over fender look. Aslan and Ton were among the first of the FF competitors to adopt the use of the K series engine; one of the first among Japan’s FF drivers to do so if you consider Ryo, and the Garage Work cars were still all running B series at the time (Garage Work to this day is still running B series). We can go as far back as 2014/15 and see that Ryusen’s EG had a K series in it. This could have possibly been the edge that pushed Ton into his first TC2000 records early in 2018.

No oil cooler is interesting but the weight savings is understood at this level. In a similar vein, they are very likely changing the oil often enough for it to not matter. Appreciate the upload.

I think with the car being NA an oil cooler isn't quite as necessary. When the car has a turbo, the oil gets pumped through the turbo which is subject to much higher temperatures and is almost a requirement when you're making racecar levels of power. Since the oil also has some cooling effect on moving parts. But as I said, with it being NA it isn't crucial to have one. Still a pretty sweet car tho and I would absolutely drive it for sure 😏
Some k series (mainly some k20a variants) have a factory oil cooler built into the water pump housing that can be adapted to any other k series. Can't comment on how efficient it is but it's possible they went this route.

Ive watched alot of laps on this track and that was insane speed around the corners.
That's one perfectly engineered Honda Civic hatch. Everything on that car looks functional from the throttle stacks in the front, to the areo in the rear. Just beautiful and fast. They should take it to a bigger track to stretch at her legs

You should watch the vibrant civic also if you haven’t already. It held 5 WTAC record until Faras beat it around Road Atlanta after they retired it for phase 2 in 2019. And it’s still FWD

I still find it crazy the size of those wheel spacers 😂 Suprised by the Spoon twinblocks with those sorts of speeds/times but I guess where the car is so light it's easier to stop.
Also, 70kg springs 😮 I'm guessing its such a high spring rate due to the amount of downforce the car generates?

i mean if one have any idea how it works, let say it is a 1000kg car and it is 70/30 split? 350 kg in the front(each corner) and can u tell me how much shock movement with 70k spring(a GT3 race car only on 30+k spring)? unless it pull crazy G which i dont see it, on a low speed track(u saw the speedo?) i highly doubt it got too much suspension movement even with the aero on this car. plus car have shock pot(a shame it is on aims) but i also saw (hope i was wrong coz it would be extremely stupid) which mount the shock body and upper A arm. those 2 things move up and down together, lol. as far as the brake, if u see their data, their braking time in a lap would be very low becoz it is a light car and the speed wasnt fast. the reason it is fast is, it got the power and it is on seq box. on H pattern , every shift will be at least 0.5 sec no matter who u are, and seq box make the shift in 0.2sec and now go count how many shift per lap and time the second gain from it, then there you go.

Crazy fast Civic, this thing is monstrous and everything on it looks so overbuilt, but I guess the time it surpass prove this thought wrong.
Using pedal shifter will give the driver better control of the steering thus improving the overall time. On a short circuit like tsukuba a 0.5 sec improvement can be achieved just from installing the pedal shifter.
Definitely would have helped in the final corner

Your car is obviously stupid fast. But of course it is. About the only thing left stock on it is the windshield and roof. What kills me is this is the era of Civics that made Civic fan boys fan boys. They had a fully stock North American version with a whopping 123HP and they thought they were king of the streets. I had a crappy ass Dodge Omni with a 2.2L with a carburetor on top and a 5 speed manual and I would leave them standing.

When your racing against the time u need faster shift times. Manual gearbox has has a slow shift speed
