I find it amusing that many shows and channels (not this one) call intelligence in animals "dangerous." It's extraordinary and exciting to keep finding complex brain functions in animals, maybe one day we'll even figure out how to communicate with a large portion of intelligent animals in complex ways. Ignorance is dangerous, discovering that our neighbors on Earth are also quite smart shouldn't frighten us, it should make us smile & wonder how we can understand them.

But that is beside the point. Are you seriously white knighting me over what I said?
Do you think I hurt the octopi community with my hateful words?
What I said is simple and patently obvious. Little guy can't grab onto things with precise control, it's more like a group muscle contraction, where several suckers get activated then he has to release the ones that grab onto stuff he doesn't want. Looks like a pain in the ass tbh... the experimenters definitely knew what objects to stuff his barrel with... almost like they knew his lack of precise control was going to make sweeping out his barrel nearly impossible, but he still tried... he loved that damn barrel.
Do I think I would have better control of my arms, underwater, after millions of years of contiguous evolution?

    Two observations, one question:
    1. It seemed to me that Arnold's eyes displayed annoyance, anger, betrayal, and most surprisingly of all, desire, in a way that was very readable.
    2. It seemed to me that Arnold's first thought was, "I need a vacuum cleaner to clear this crap out. That tube thing over there has magic suction properties for whatever reason. I'll use that." He then attempted to drag the tube over there but it broke instead. He hoped maybe he only needed that piece and could figure out a way to activate it somehow. When that didn't work, he thought it might come in handy. At some point he had gone from betrayal and annoyance at the changes to MacGuyver.
    3. The video cut off early, but it looked like he was going to experiment with building a door with the panel, or otherwise, maybe using it to shovel out the blocks. Does that resemble what happened after the video cuts off?
    Thanks!

That is not to say again, they are not experiencing these emotions, but, it has a completely different meaning and context for them. This is something we will have to take into consideration if we were to ever meet an intelligent species from another planet. We will not be able to assume that intelligent alien species is feeling, perceiving, and thinking the same as us. There are quite a few episodes of Star Trek that deals with this subject. I find it so amazing they have such complete control over every single one of their suction cups. Like the amount their brain has to process to do that is incredible. Such a simple thing but it blows my mind.

ive heard that each of their tentacles basically have a brain of their own, and they cant send feedback to the main brain about the position of the tentacles, so they have to literally be able to watch what they're doing to get anything done. That's probably why they frequently go some distance away from what they were doing; to get an overview.

Reaching for the filter was so cute! I love this channel because of the peaceful music and text narration.
Also...can we all agree to stop eating them? 🙃

I love how he steps back and analyze the situation. Oh and that "This is for messing up my barrel human." LMAO

Listening to the octopuses garden as a child fostered a love within me for these fascinating creatures and I am such a huge fan of these wonderful videos

"NO" and then mutter curses at the human

Seems his final decision is to turn the initial problem into an advantage : he uses the stones as a support for a door, and so now he may close his hidout. Clever !!

Congratulations, Octolab, you created the first octohoarder 🐙🛒 🤗
The octopus was fairly smart. I first thought it was going to push the small blocks out of the barrel. It was hilarious when it yanked off the aquarium filter.
Finally, I imagined it thinking "Score!" as it added the large tiles, perhaps for a smooth floor or for a door to shut out the riff raff that trashed its home.
