  • A lot of players do a great job created racquet head speed but sometimes have trouble focusing that energy at the right time. We're doing to use one of my favorite drills to tune your swing and get that pop. FYI I've taken the time to update the 15 Points Mastery Program so check that out. Otherwise, I have a great lineup over the next few months. Lastly, some of the footage here got too much exposure and the color is kinda whack - will get it right next time! Thanks everyone!

    Man, you are a seriously studious stroke mechanic. No one else is analyzing technique this way and it’s fantastic.

    Hi, charlie from London, just spent day at Wimbledon yesterday, and watching the pros close up, I can tell you that this STOP N POP, is probably one of the most profound unknown secrets in tennis, and as you say exactly, because it happens so fast , its missed, and all people see is the end result.
    So, thank you Coach Steven for allowing us to know " The Secret"!! Cheers, Charlie

    Steven, you are helping unlock the secrets of power for us amateurs. Stop and pop seems like a novel(?) idea, but actually pros do already; however, we amateurs try to copy their technique incorrectly. I will incorporate stop and pop in my tennis, and I'm excited at the prospect of further improvement. Cheers!

    Thank you Steven, I just have been enlighten with this concept of yours. Even though I've tried to use the lag and snap Incorporation with legs and body rotation, but your technique to stop the body from over rotation had also helped to slingshot my hitting arm forward motion as well. Your videos are always beneficial especially for someone like me the weekend warrior. Thank you once again and please keep up the good work.

    I just had a very successful tennis season this past school year at my high school. Out team overall came out with 22-1! When tennis season kicks back up again, this will definitely help! Thanks for everything!

    Great shot for net approach down backhand side too. A la Connors on his forehand approach.

    If you do it right you'll actually hear a pop when you make contact. I've been able to hear it on my forehand every now and then when I'm playing well and can feel the energy focused fully in the tip. I've tried to replicate it in my other strokes and this video gives some excellent tips on getting started. Excellent video coach Steven!

    I think Kyrgios uses that stop and pop badminton forehand with tremendous pace when the ball is at baseline and his opponent is at the net. He did it against Nadal at Wimbledon, Nadal was shocked, totally defensive and dumped the volley. He tried the same shot against against Federer earlier and Fed volleyed it like it was nothing which shocked Kyrgios.

    • @ANGELOFDARKification
      @ANGELOFDARKification 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wally Friend Kyrgios still had a follow through, it was just sideways rather than moving it upwards. This technique might maybe work a few times in a match but you will end up injuring yourself if u try it too many times. The force you need in your forearms, wrist and elbow to stop the momentum of the swing will out too much of a strain.

    In any tennis motion there's some space slot/allowance. Provided you are within these limits of the right biomechanics this pop definitely accelerates the tip of the racket. Hence more power.
    Federer's serve with the slightly open racket face at the backswing, and Goffin+Djokovic active wrist usage at the serve are the examples.

    56 and though fit , trying to change game to a far more sympathetic hitting action. Will try this for sure. Keep upright for core turn and stop ,for down line or slow follow through down to infront of my face. Nice, thanx.

    Very interesting, but could you clarify what you do on the serve, where you are presumably dealing with a slow moving ball.

    • @15PointsOfTennis
      @15PointsOfTennis  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’d just do stop and pop on serve in practice to help with contact point and for technique development, not in a match as you need more racquet speed.

    My daughter is a gross motor skills dominant, she can generate a lot of power and is able to do the windshiel wiper with the wholw arm and I was triying to get her to do exactly what you explained, use the power of the last pice of the kinetic chain, but I have difficulty making her stop her arm motion to release this piece for the topspin swing. Thanks to you I have hope that she will understand better what I trying to show her.

    • @KaptainOW
      @KaptainOW 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d recommend not training her to do this. By not allowing the natural follow through she’s straining her muscles by stopping so suddenly. You rarely ever see professionals do this, or at least to the extent that this guy is doing. A shorter follow through is fine, but the complete stopping of the swing? You’re asking for injury.

    • @15PointsOfTennis
      @15PointsOfTennis  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roberto, be sure to watch the remaining videos in the stop and pop series to balance this concept out. For most players this is just a technique drill to practice focusing energy and finding your contact point. 2 handed strokes can stop and pop much harder so yes, she’ll be following through much further on the FH

    Interesting theory! You CAN do this successfully as in the case of Monica Seles (past) and Hsieh Su Wei (present). However, you're missing a HUGE point: both ladies plays with TWO hands on both sides, so they can control stop and pop well and put the ball at exactly where they want. More importantly, this stop and pop technique does NOT do any damages to the wrist because of the TWO-HAND GRIP!!!
    With one hand grip, the stop & pop will bring undue stress onto the wrist. I can almost guarantee you that your tennis career will be a short one. Please bring this to USPTA and see what they think and have the experts verify the medical stress issues to the wrist!!!
    Good luck to all of you. CN/ VN-MAC-A

      I don't think he is suggesting you actually play this way. He's just getting students to do it as an exercise to make them aware of the cracking point of their whip (arm + racquet) ... as you say quite rightly if you keep doing this exercise you are either going to be competing in arm wrestling, become a badminton player, or, more likely, get injured .... but once students are aware of that crack right at the contact point they can relax the wrist and arm and let the whole lot follow through naturally, which will actually save them effort and probably from injury too

      Hey did you try this method?

  • @8uvrays
    @8uvrays 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    What you are actually doing is training yourself to hit the ball with the lower tip of the racquet on topspins, the upper tip on slices and the inner tip on serves. (The last two are the same.). Slow the replay down and watch.

    Coach Steven, could you clarify where exactly is the contact point?

    • @15PointsOfTennis
      @15PointsOfTennis  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question... depends on a few things including your grip. For me I like to stop where I feel strong, not reaching or jammed... guess you’ll have to play around a bit

    Agassi followed through beautifully. kinda defies what you are saying. the stop and pop thing is a habit players have gotten into on balls they can barely reach comfortably... not as a main stroke.

    This so called STOP N POP is ONLY one of good ways to guide your mind finding the exact contact point rather than"where you want to hit to."
    That 's all.
    opps...Another benefit is it allows you recovering for next short quicker.
