    I'm just wondering if we can relate this concept to Edward's work Orientalism?
    since he's in this position between the Orient and the Occident.

    • @masoodraja
      @masoodraja  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, you could certainly relate it to Said’s work.

    I would push back against in-betweenness as a third identity comparable to the binary positions. It is not a position you can directly approach or take but only subsume by resisting a static binary position.

      Thank you. This is just my understanding of it. You can, of course, read it differently.

    Recently started reading The colonisers and the colonised by A.Memmi and the premise of the book supposedly encapsulates this concept. Still reading so can't formulate conclusions yet.

    Thank you, how does DuBois’ double consciousness compare? Or Crenshaw’s Intersectionality? Are these all basically the same idea?

      In-betweenness will not be possible to theorize without the work by others. The only thing to keep in mind is that it is in the very structure of the sign itself: between the signifier and the signified.

    Hello, do you mind defining "colonial subjectivity" for me? Does the term refer to a colonized subject's subjectivity, to a colonizer's subjectivity, or to both because they share a colonial space? Thank you for your time!

    • @masoodraja
      @masoodraja  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you. I would not consider it as a single subjectivity. But any subjectivities that emerge under colonialism could be grouped under it. Fanon has a good explanation of the psychological aspects of it in Black Skin White Masks.

    • @masoodraja
      @masoodraja  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And yes, the colonizer subjectivity are also affected by the experience. You can discuss those by a careful reading of Albert Memi: The Colonizer and the Colonized

    Sir extremely grateful for these videos. One doubt that I have is whether the concept of inbetweeness similar to the idea of liminal spaces.

      Thank you. In betweenness is rather more complex as it plays with linguistic sign itself. I suggest reading Bhabha for a better understanding of it.

    Hello, Professor, I hope you are in good health. Well, among the key terms Bhabha deals with in his postcolonial theory is "The Unhomely" (elaborating on Freud's uncanny). Would you, please, dedicate a small lecture to it? Thank you very much.

    • @masoodraja
      @masoodraja  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you. I know it comes up in the location of culture but I have so far avoided any serious engagement with Bhabha’s work, as I need to reread it. If I get to a point where I feel confident about my understanding, I will certainly record a few videos.
