    The Hawker name comes from Harry Hawker who was Thomas Sopwith’s chief test pilot from around 1914 at age 25. He was from Victoria, Australia, and Tom Sopwith credited him with much of the design and growth of the company during WW1. He was killed in an air crash in 1921.

    Thanks for sharing, Sean!
    Maybe you can answer a couple of tech questions regarding a private pilot. How many flight hours to I need to get my PPL? What would be the next steps (flight hours, tests, etc.) to fly a turbo prop and then a Private Jet or Multi-Engine Aircraft?

    • @CorporatePilotLife
      @CorporatePilotLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure! The minimum for a Private Certificate is 40 hours, but most people are closer to 60 hours before the checkride. After that, you would need your instrument rating and then Commercial Certificate. Depending on the training program, you'll be around 250 hours by that point, then it's a matter of finding a company to put you in their plane!

    The APU is a neat little self contained turbine engine that spools itself up and provides bleed air to the engines and environmental systems as well as generating power for the electrical systems. So how often is the apu turned on Shaun and under what conditions?

    • @briancraigkennedy3153
      @briancraigkennedy3153 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I may...LOL....We use the APU to power all of the aircraft systems an environmentals while sitting on the ramp waiting for passengers. We typically turn it around 45 mins prior to departure and it's kept on until climbing out on departure. We shut it down just after takeoff per the checklist and turn it back on when back on the descent typically below 18,000 ft. When the engines are shut down, the APU provides us cabin lighting, and heating or cooling while the passengers deplane and we clean up afterwards.

    • @CorporatePilotLife
      @CorporatePilotLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is almost always turned on before passengers arrive then either just prior to landing or just after. It makes for a much smoother transition for engine start and shut down as far as passenger comfort goes

    I really enjoy the tech Tuesday's Shaun. I would be interested in learning a bit about the nuts and bolts of navigation. I've often wondered what the difference is between the RNAV approach and the ILS. Also, what is the significance of the altimeter? I hear it all the time, but I don't really understand what it is or what it's significance is relative to the flight of the airplane. Thanks for all you do.

    I knew that a lot of planes have an APU. But having watched that video, I have a question.... What is the electrical system on an airplane? Is it like a boat (my thing) which is a 12V and an inverter combination? After watching this it seems that the APU is basically the generator that makes 120V when needed. Kinda like a genset on a yacht. I'm learning.... Am I close?

    • @CorporatePilotLife
      @CorporatePilotLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty close indeed! We use a 28 volt system, and we also pull bleed air from the APU to heat/cool the interior of the plane

    Hey Shaun, when would you normally kick on the APU upon arrival? Do you wait until you taxi off the arrival runway or would you start it outside the initial approach? And would that be when/where you would start it regardless of the corporate jet?
    Thank you sir

    • @CorporatePilotLife
      @CorporatePilotLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With the Hawker, we usually start it on the approach and turn on the bleed air while still in the air. It makes for a gentler pressurization transition on landing. The G-IV APU is restricted to ground use only, so we start it as soon as we exit the runway.

      Hey there! It depends on where you are leaving from, but most aircraft are going to require a fuel stop from the US. I could get you there in our G4, but it would require a couple of fuel stops. Send me an email to corporatepilotlife@gmail.com if you would like more info.
