- Is you're insurance company scamming you.
If you need to insure your campervan or any vehicle that is modified is your insurance company insuring you correctly. We got refused insurance on our campervan after we questioned our renewal.
We also get a vehicle tracker fitted today from carspecialistc... We highly recommend the team here for any security equipment.

U should speak to Dan Cameron at A Plan thatcham branch, they specialise in vw camper and modifications etc , the other branches don’t specialise but will insure but at a higher premium
Hi guys. We been with Adrian flu x for years. Brilliant. X
Thank you for sharing 😀
I’ve been with A plan for quite a few years now as they always seem very accommodating. They put themselves out there at VW shows too so it’s a thumbs up from me 👍
What they want it to take your money.
Any concerns you have is the question how far you push your insurance company.
I had the same issues with my one, ended up changing the insurance.... Long story but similar case like yours Tom.
Thank you for the video.
Take care. K 🤙
Hi. Thank you for your comment! 🙌
Great video Tom im also with A plan insurance they are great and the Tracker is definitely worth having looking forward to the next video
Hi. That's good. Thank you for your comment! 🙌
Fantastic recommendation. Just finished converting mine and need new insurance went to A plan and amazing service. Not only got me the most competitive quote after logging every modification but actually cheaper than what I was paying before conversion and worth less. Thanks for doing a vid on this.... really useful 👍
That's good! Did you mention you had seen the video to them. 🙂
@@dubventures sure did!!
Such a relief to hear you say A-plan, that’s who I am with with my Crafter conversion after a lot of research. Modern trackers are fantastic, mine also tracks routes and I was able to tell the garage off for speeding in the van when they were delivering it to me!!
We did alot of research also do that why got insurance from a plan. Yes trackers are a must have.
Told my insurance company about alloy wheels.woman went away to check came back basically said doesn't matter.
Thanks for your comment
Love your videos. I am converting a T5. I’m with just kampers. They are really good. At each stage I call them to add things. They charge a small admin fee to add it on. At the end they allow you to agree a value which they base on pictures and any invoices you have
Hi. Thank you. That's good you let them know what work you do when done.
Thank you for lovely video 🌺✌️
Thanks for watching. 😁👍
Thank you Tom for passing this information on top man
No worries!
i have just purchased an Ocean, very difficult ro get insured with the normal insurers, either would not or obscene cost. A plan were great, full cover at a good cost. Needed a tracker though,
We do recommend them!
Very worrying that. Excellent video Tom.
Hi. Yes we needed yo do this video. Thank you for your comment! 🙌
Insurance is a minefield
I’d suggest you inform Insurance of every modification along the way. Just renewed mine as a Self Build Campervan with agreed valuation and occasional business use. Was quite difficult as my Camper is my only vehicle. The popular Van insurers didn’t want to Know. Just Kampers sorted me out, just needed to send 7 photos of the conversion to get the agreement on valuation
Thank you for sharing your comment
I don't know which company you are with, Tom. I was with Brentacre when my van was converted they insisted I keep them informed at every stage which I did. They knew every detail I had done. When it was finished, I told them it was completed and sent proof via photos and they valued the van at £20k as a camper van. I was with them for 12 months but when my insurance came up for renewal in September this year, the premium. Trebled and so I contacted a specialist camper conversion company called Aplan Thatcham. Again I informed them of every detail done. I've managed to get mine insured as a fully converted camper, valued at 20k and its cost me 370 quid.
Hi. Best way is tell them everything you've had done. If expensive then try other company as long as tell them what had done for the conversion and modification on your vehicle that's done.
Agreed Tom. I was explicite in everything I did on Viv-i-van and doccumented everything. I supplied photos of changes like windows etc. I did not have alloys on her due to budget restraints-though I'd have LOVED her to be suited and booted with Rogue Alloys and all terrain tyres-maybe one day....though that brings me to a very touchy subject in many of the van groups.....alloys. In a couple of groups I am in, I'm constantly warning folk who convert their vans not to listen to some of the utter muppets on there who push the use of car alloys and tryes using spacers and "wobble bolts" They refuse to listen when I point out they were never meant to be used on a van loaded with furniture etc and are not "load rated" for the van nor are the tyres and if they have an accident-if they go over a pothole and the weight of the van cracks the alloys cos they werent meant for the van, and if they have an accident and the insurance company finds out....their insurance is gone. no payout, no nothing. Yet these groups are full of folk, converting vans who not only dont keep their insurance companies informed, they use dangerous wheels and then complain when their insurance is void. Its one reason firms like Rogue exist-to provide the right wheels for the right job. safe, load rated and properly matched ones . Instead, these idiots in these groups use cheap unsuitable wheels, and questionable fixings and then cry when their insurance is void. You showed with this video that its ALWAYS the best thing to tell your insurance company everything-specially if you have a top notch beautifully converted van like yours. I hope people listen to you. You did a good job! bessy regs- Kenny.
I'm with brentacre and my premium dropped £5 the second year 😂
I’ve been with A Plan for 3 years… Van was first insured for 5k then over the years of doing it up policy went down and the value of the Van went up. Pure peace of mind.
I have been with just kampers now for over 4 years from the start of my conversion to the finnish, also the good thing with them is you get 10% off conversion products with them. However I have only ever heard good things about a plan and would also recommend them
Thank you for your comment 😁
Hi there I’ve got a motohome auto sleeper which had a trakker on it when I bought it brand new I told the insurance company and they told me it dose not matter or change the insurance premium .
Not all insurance company need them. It's dependent on value.
I use Just Kampers with an Agreed Value policy. I tell them what I think it's worth. Take a load of photographs and email those over, they come back and agree to the value. Job Done .
So that company tints front windows of cars 🤔 that’s not legal for road use. I would of walked away.
That's correct, it is illegal to apply any window tint to any window forward of the B pillar that makes the window any darker than 70% vlt, (must allow no less than 70% light in)
It was a show car so your incorrect assumption of being illegal is wrong. My comment saying they do window tinting does not mean get it done like that. Again another incorrect assumption on your part. Your welcome. 👍
@@dubventures not an incorrect assumption, I've been in the window tint industry for thirty years, Audi A3 as a show car, very poor excuse from you
@@dubventures My thoughts exactly. “Showing” no customer care, have a problem with your vehicle after leaving the workshop he won’t want to know. Not very professional is it.
Great video, my renewal is coming up soon and think I will be in the same boat as you were. Going to try Aplan as a result. Which tracker did you get fitted, going to get one myself
Hi. If you call a plan let them know we recommend them. As far as tracker if you speak to csc they will advise what's best for you. Link in video.
I've always had to disclose any modifications on any vehicles I've had if you read the small print on your policy I'm sure it tells you...don't just assume your covered.
Hi. That's why we did this video. Thank you for your comment! 🙌
hi tom i am getting csc to fit me a starlight roof i feel better now i having seen there work what tracker did you get fitted
Hi. You will be happy with the high standard of work done there. We do recommend them and we are having more work done with them. If you want a tracker they will be best advising you as all needs are different.
Most camper van owners also have a car and a house. I do. I've gone with Admiral who do a multi-car/van/house policy. Each vehicle/house gets a discount against the other. For once in my life I feel like I am getting good value.
Thanks for your comment 😃
Great video Pal. Thanks for sharing. My insurance is due soon, will give A Plan a call. Thanks again mate 👌
Thank you for your comment! 🙌
HI guys my campervan and landrover defender are insured with ADRIAN FLUX no problems with this company thank for another informative video
Thank you for your comment
Yes with A plan myself, I’m sure when a van is insured for more than £50.000 then extra security etc are mandatory with insurance companies. Having a tracker make sure you go round heavy handed to locate it when stolen cause the police don’t go find them for you anymore, don’t quote me on this but I’m pretty sure but apologies if I’m not correct. Immobiliser is the way forward but if they really want it it’s gone and stripped for parts in a few hours, happy campervanning to everyone 👍👍
Cheers Tom your a legend
😁👍
most Iveco vans used by businesses usually have the same type of tracker and some van's with them will start but they make such a high pitched noise it would be unbearable on the ears to drive 500 yards without putting the tracker tag on etc and it would be interesting to know for those that live in their vans that are unemployed as to whether universal credit class their campervan as a home and whether they can claim campervan costs as the equivalent to rent costs or not
all costs while you live in a Van are all down to you , you cannot claim any vehicle costs and they wont help in any way .
We have used Adrian flux since we have had our t5 seem pretty good and they will give you an agreed value in writing if anything happens
Thank you for your comment
You need to register with the DVLA as a motorhome, then insurance companies know what it is .
That is not true at all.
@@dubventuresit's a fact. When I converted my sprinter 4yrs ago I got it changed to a motorhome with the DVLA, I had to send pictures of the changes, and not only did it cut my insurance by more than half It also changed the tax class so that was cheaper aswell. Smaller vans like you had previously may be different as would only be classed as camper , but larger vans come under the motor caravan banner ,how do you think conversion companies change there vehicles on second hand vans.
Great video Tom you've got me wanting a tracker 👍👍
We do recommend csc if your able to get one.
Very interesting.
Thank you for your comment! 🙌
Don't you have to change the log book to a moto caravan
No.
Yes
Good information 👍
Thank you.
Very informative video
Thank you for your comment! 🙌
Have you had a BearLock fitted again?
No they do do them for a crafter
Been with Adrian flux for years send pics in and recipes you get a agreed valuation .
Thank you for your comment! 🙌
Wish I would have known you was there I'm 1 minute down the road you would have been welcome for a brew buddy anytime
Thanks for the invite maybe next time
Well it doesn’t stop there, there are underwriters out there heavily used by well known Motorhome Insurance companies, which I specifically ask to avoid when renewing after knowing exactly what they are like in the event of a claim…. Some crazy trustpilot reviews out there for them…
Why are you making life so difficult for yourself? You get the van valued and tell the insurer and they give with you a new premium. The renewal normally asks you if you have altered the vehicle, you don’t volunteer the information, you have to provide the info as per the questions. Modifications in Insurers parlance is performance enhancing or seating etc, they are not interested in batteries or showers. I think they refused you because they couldn’t be arsed to carry on dealing with you. Go to campervan guard they understand conversions give them a value and confirm it’s a normal conversion I.e. nit powered by Nuclear fission and they will quote you 👏👏
Watch the video again and listen to we said. Thank you for your comment! 🙌
