    60% of bad guys are incapacitated after 1 shot of 22. You only need 1.3 shots on average of 22 to get the job done. These numbers are better than 9mm. There are more details of course but these numbers are real. Don't discount the humble 22.

    • @thatoneguy454c
      @thatoneguy454c 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The statistics on 9mm in that particular study are also counting a lot of law enforcement encounters so it's not exactly the best comparison, however still relevant data. I'll take a 22 over a sharp stick any day of the week.

      @FlyManChimera ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@reiniergarciaIt is, look up the study, its cited very often. The issue though is that there is a 30% chance you don't stop your attacker no matter how many shots were fired and that goes down to 13% with 9mm. I'd say .22lr is better than no gun, but .380 and 9mm are much more optimal for self defense.

    Regardless of the current situation, 22lr is always a good choice as long as you use good ammo. Everyone in your family can handle the recoil, you will be faster and more accurate, and you won’t destroy your hearing. 22lr is more than enough to stop an intruder.

    Whether You Have A 22LR Or Any Other Caliber Firearm, When The Bullets Start Flying The Bad Guy's Won't Differentiate Between The Different Calibers.
    When The Sound Of Shots Are Being Fired In Their Direction, Their First Instinct Will Be To Remove Themselves From The Situation. A 22LR With Proper Shot Placement Or Just Plain Old Hitting Your Target Will Definitely Be A Deterrent!

      Sometimes, and sometimes they keep coming. I’ve seen dozens and dozens of videos of people being shot with 9mm or 40 or 45 and they just keep coming. Not all bad guys run away at the first shot. And in the case of them not running away a 9mm or any other caliber is better than a 22

    A 22 LR round has an average of 140 foot pounds of force upon impact, while a 9mm round has around 400 foot pounds of force. The 22 LR will likely be more painful since it is impacting with less force, and it will lodge into a target causing severe internal damage. Pain + internal damage would disable or scare the target within a very short time frame. You can get a good 22 LR handgun with stockpiles of ammunition for well under $500. That means tons of practice time with your firearm for very cheap. You cannot go wrong with a 22.

      Police expert "I've never seen a gun that long before, why is it so long that's just ridiculous"

    I cannot find a single verifiable instance of a defensive shooting where a .22lr wasn’t enough for someone to stop an attack. As best I can tell a .22lr has been 100% effective for self defense in the real world.

      True...even if getting hit by a few 22 bullets (remember, always fire MULTIPLE shots -- regardless of caliber -- not just ONE shot) does NOT "stop the threat" (incapacitate or kill) it will very likely make the assailant "lose enthusiasm" for continuing. Either way a Win for the the self-defender.
      The 22 LR is fine for home/self-defense, even carrying. I have 3 currently: Kel Tec P17, Ruger LCP II and S&W M&P 15-22 Sport.
      As for reliable/effective 22LR ammo, look into the Federal Punch 22LR: One of the best penetrators presently, maybe THE best. If you want expansion though, look at others.

    22 does make a lot of sense for HD, especially if it's your first gun. 1. Easy to shoot, train, stock up, etc. 2.Not as loud as 9 or 5.56 inside of a house. really think about it. 3. Easy to place multiple shots quickly and accurately. 4. Not likely to penetrate any extra walls or go into neighbors' houses.5. It makes a great secondary or back up gun when you get a 9mm or something else after some time.

    If you hit a person with a shot, 99% are going to run away if they can. Most people will run once they know their is risk to them. When you get shot you can tell the difference of what just hit you. So I think 22LR is good for home defense, its stopping power is less for sure but it will do the trick the majority of the time.

    Nice video...I’m not against the .22 for defense. However, 1) I choose a carbine (short rifle) because of a much greater muzzle velocity over pistol. 2) research and experiment what ammo will be most dependable and do the job, and 3) although semi-auto is faster, I actually have a lever action, which virtually eliminates stovepipes, failure to eject, and if it is failure-to-fire, the round can quickly be levered out. Just my opinions, of course!

    .22 is definitely capable of inflicting fatal wounds, even immediately fatal wounds. Like any other caliber it is all about ammo choice and shot placement. Something like a tx-22 that holds 16 +1 will most likely get the job done. Of course if someone is hopped up on PCP or synthetic cannabinoids it might be harder to stop them with a .22, however you will run into the same problem with almost any handgun cartridge on account of the fact that handguns are not exactly the best implements for immediately ending fights. A hole in the heart is a hole in the heart, as long as you can last the next couple seconds they are going to go down. There is a reason handguns and handgun caliber long guns are not the first choice for military conflicts, a full power or intermediate rifle cartridge will always be preferable. Inside 30 yards or so a shotgun is arguably the most statistically likely to stop a threat in one round, however that's not always a choice. Even the tiniest of little 22 revolvers has a very good chance of changing the behavior of the individual on the receiving end of the projectiles leaving its barrel.

    • @PetuniaIii-pd1ww
      @PetuniaIii-pd1ww 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah...we rarely carry a NAA, but we practice constantly, and know the gun is reliable...we often carry a .22wmr revolver, only slightly better as a round, but we don't live in the worst area, and figure it can handle about 99% of problems we might see...

    22lr is a lethal round. It’s just its tendency to not be reliable that makes it a poor choice. Rim fired rounds are known to have cycling issues, poor quality control in charge and manufacturing, and Not firing on good strikes. Add the fact that some guns aren’t reliable to the mix, and you’d have to ask yourself if you really want to depend on a smaller caliber/platform when better options are readily available. Many larger guns are difficult for people to function properly. If the 22lr is the only one you can, then that’s the way you should go. Take your time and choose wisely.

      Our recent experience is .22 ammo has improved a bit, and the 'better' ammo is pretty good...for whatever reason some folks insist on using the wrong ammo in the wrong gun; i.e. very slow rounds in autoloaders...an important aspect to any .22 firearm is keep the gun CLEAN...can't say that enough, the ammo, even the best, is inherently dirty...good ammo in a clean gun is a good chance if ever needed...

    Many SMARTLY managed gun stores reserve (off the shelves) at least one box of target ammo and one box of defensive (for pistols) or hunting (for long rifles) ammo for each gun they have for sale. Hopefully the ammo question was asked before making the decision to step down in caliber for the gun purchase. If you use a 22LR then it’s all about quality ammo and initial and quick follow up shot placement.

    Consider this, most non police encounters are resolved with merely pulling a gun. Of the few that require discharging the gun, most require 3 or less rounds.
    When you consider that the average perp will be wearing a Nike hoodie or a jersey, and not 10 layers of denim stacked together then you realize that 22lr is probably going to get you through the majority of encounters. Specifically for home defense, 25 rounds out of a Ruger 10/22 will quickly dispatch the resolve of most home intruders. Novices like can shoot a 22lr more accurately than a 9mm..

    Most places are going to keep some supply of ammunition for people who buy a firearm from them. There are going to be exceptions, but in most places, they will offer a customer at least fifty and often a hundred rounds of ammunition for whatever firearm the customer buys. That's still not much, but that's not the same as nothing.
    The effectiveness of .22LR will still depend on the firearm, the attacker, and other things. The average lazy thief will run from the first shots of .22LR. Someone on drugs or highly motivated will be less effected. Someone wearing some kind of improvised body armor (or maybe just very dense clothing) might be less effected by .22LR than the same person would be by 9mm. The .22LR bullet coming from a rifle barrel will be more effective than the same bullet from the same cartridge coming from a three-inch pistol barrel.
    The .22LR ammunition that is available may or may not be a quality type of ammunition. Even the best quality .22LR ammunition is typically more prone to jamming than 9mm ammunition is in most 9mm pistols. A new gun owner trying to clear a jammed .22LR round in a pistol during a self-defense scenario is going to have big problems. If I were recommending a firearm to a completely new gun owner who couldn't get 9mm or .380 ACP ammunition to go with his or her new handgun, I'd recommend a double-action revolver in .22LR. I'd ideally recommend one with a five-inch barrel and an eight or nine round cylinder. If this handgun is from a reputable manufacturer, the function should be fine for many thousands of rounds. Ideal cleaning wouldn't be necessary to keep the gun functioning. There would be no stovepipe jams from failure to extract. There would be no failure to feed. The gun would fire just by pulling the trigger. If the home defender had a reasonably good defense plan, he or she would have a reasonably good chance of ending the fight in six or seven rounds even if one or two rounds failed to fire.

    Words... useless words... fire projectiles at flesh simulators and compare.
    A bit of info you can prob find online to verify... font remember year or location... 1990,s maybe? No idea where. But a state trooper did a felony stop on a known felon, a big fat guy, he resisted of course, a struggle ensued. LEO pulled .40 cal and fired striking g suspect in torso region. Subject ceased struggle and fled.... around the car... while pulling an NAA mini revolver that fired .22 short. The LEO shot at him until his mag was empty and hit him 5 or 6 more times, the guys fat absorbed the energy as the hollow point defense ammo opened nearly immediately, dumping all its energy into the fat.... i.e. barley bled, no major organs struck. Meanwhile the suspect fired one round from his tiny revolver derringer from about 10 feet away (other side of the car) The tiny projectile struck the officer in his side just above his vest and just below his armpit (he had his arms up and outstretched firing his service weapon) thereby entering his chest cavity and striking his heart, killing him instantly.
    Moral of the story... fuck yeah a .22 can kill you. But it has to be just the right hit. Reagan got hit with a .22 from Chapman and he would’ve died too without prompt medical attention the he got. Projectile entered his lung, that’s fatal for sure, if you don’t get medical attention ASAP. Besides that most criminals prey on the weak and defenseless, often just seeing that the person will fight back will make them seek another target, never mind you pull a gun and start shooting, lol. Those bitch added will be too busy running away to see what size hole you’re trying to put in them, lol
    Recap: I’d .2:!the best defense caliber? Umm, not by a long shot. Will it work and is it better than a vat or rock? You bet your ass.
    A friend of mine (little guy) was being bullied by a big guy and big guy c as mee wed to his house then kick his ass. My friend climbed a tree (he’s a deer hunter) andvwaited, when big guy came he kicked in the door and entered the house. When he found it was empty he loaded his arms with cassette tapes (1980,s) on his way out the door my buddy shot him in his punching arms elbow with a .22 rifle, on purpose. Lol can’t punch when your elbow is shot lol. Needless to say ALL the fight left bully.... friend kept his tapes, lol
    Also keep this in mind, in old days farmers often used a .22 to put down an animal for slaughter, only takes one shot between the eyes.
    Another one: I was at work one day 25 years ago, out gig was in heat, in our own backyard. A big white German shepherd was in the yard trying to jump it so my ride yelled at it to go away. It growled at her. Mistake. She shot it with a .22 and I guess hit it in the heart for instant kill as there was no blood at all. Not even in its fur. But I managed to find the tiny little entry wound.... one shot. With a .22 rifle. Instantly dead big German shepherd.

    I am not recoil sensitive. I can handle bigger more powerful guns but the idea of cutting loose with a 12 gauge in my house in the middle of the night does not set well with me. , There are issues with that like blowing out your eardrums. Over penetration. killing someone who is not the intruder and blowing massive holes in your house. A 22 may or may not kill, but the idea is not necessarily to kill but to stop the threat. When you start firing at an intruder, I would hope that the intruder would at least retreat and with good shot placement, it will kill too. Shot placement is everything. Even with larger guns. I know of people who survived hits from a 9mm with poor shot placement. It is not what you have but how you use it.

    If you get a headshot heck yeah it'll kill. And given there is little recoil that leaves lots of shots on target. The bullet is strong enough to break the 💀 once but not twice. So you don't get a simple in and out. You get a bullet that rattles around inside the skull turning the brain to mush. The main benefit of it is it technically isnt made to kill humans it still can. But it is good to wound. If you are going up against multiple targets a wounding shot is better than a kill shot as it will take 1 to 2 people to take care of the injured person.

      And much easier to get multiple follow up shots to the head with a 22. I just mag dumped a 10 round 10/22 mag at 10 yards and it was a fist sized group on the head of the silhouette. Debating on trading in my 357 sig for a Ruger Mark 4 🤔

      @@Catgat37 we own a mark iv...it has been pretty good, but if you have the ammo I'd keep the .357sig, and acquire a .22 just for the regular, affordable trigger time...the 10/22 is good, the mark iv is good, most any .22 would be fine...we never stopped shooting during the recent ammo shortage thanks to .22...

    A 22 is a killing round. A burst fire and vital organ striking round. An AR for home defense is not a good choice. You are better served with a pistol caliber Carbine. Semiauto or lever action . If you waited until now you are screwed.. The best time to plan for a disaster is before it strikes. By the way this is the argument against magazine bans. A 10 round 22 is borderline, and with roaming mobs you want a Ruger 10/22 with a pr of bx/25 mags in the rifle. Not a terribly popular Carbine today, but after the Ruger PC9 9mm , my choice is a surplus30 M1 Carbine. With 110 gr sp,or even ball it is a devastating close range fight stopper. In a non mag restricted state you can have a orcof 39 rounders in the rifle and a pr of 15 rounders on the stock. 90 rounds grab and fight. Unlike the 223 , it does not have ear splitting report and muzzle blast indoors. For 22 handguns , for home defense a Ruger Mark IV, and for either home or carry a Taurus 942 or Ruger LCP2 in 22lr. Even make decent back up guns. There are others , but these are still available

    Believe it or not a man killed a police & put the other one in the hospital with a
    G44 Glock sadly.
