Time and manpower is of the essence in your case... harvesting and milling and drying for own logs and lumber for a house would take with one person 3 or 4 years...not to mention prepping the foundation, and so on...thats a lot of winters to live in the trailer...imagine people have done it, anything with enough grit and determination...wood stoves are key for the northern winters:-)
Guys, bless you. Stay strong continue to do your thing especially in those freezing weather you are going through through I admire your strength resilience, and commitment 🙏💕✊ Can't wait to see what the future has for you guys
Put cement board under and behind the stove. Then add spacer against the wall and add another layer. Nothing flammable within two feet of stove. That stove you have is going to make your life so, so much better. And save you a fortune 👍👍👍. You can easily dry clothes in that room on a rack with stove on.
Put the water pipe inside a bigger pipe and leave a vent open at the supply end of it and it will never freeze! We had one supplying the farm house that we had many years ago, the pipe was only down 18 to 20 inches over a distance of 150 feet from the well head to the basement and it never once froze in the 25 years we were there! As for your frosting windows, there is a plastic you can buy that goes on with 2 sided tape and is shrunk to tighten it up with a hair dryer. I have used it in a 35 foot travel trailer in the winter before and it works well for keeping frost off the windows, plus makes it easier to heat. Those trailers only have single pane glass
Good job! Everything is coming along! You do have a point about quiting electricity cold turkey, that's what we did. Sold our house, got rid of EVERYTHING that used electricity and moved to an atv/snowmobile access cabin with nothing at all, now that was an adapt and learn senerio. One adapts if they are forced too but it's rough for a while that is for sure! And likely not something most should do. You are way ahead of most, most start with nothing and work their way into fancy washers and running water.
The comforts of having electricity? Haha. You're working for it buddy! Our Canadian winters are ruthless. Ignore the critics. I admire your guys' determination! A thought for under trailer supplemental heat: a side vent kit can be put on dryer. Exhaust through floor and then exit outside after roughly 10 feet of solid vent pipe. Keep elbows minimal, 2 45°'s are more efficient than a 90°.
I love your videos! Lots of people with suggestions on how to make life better off the grid. Some may be good, some may not, like the straw insulation. You do your thing, you know your property and climate better. I enjoy your journey and am grateful that you are so calm and don't make drama like others constantly produce for views. You are doing a very good job! Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁❄
I love your channel and watching all the progress. You have a lifetime to get there. First things first and all other will wait. The Laundry Room is a great, well thought design. It's going to be so nice when it's complete. Definitely will suffice for the long haul through your journey. And a BIG Happy Birthday to the little one! Merry Christmas to you as well.
I do not understand why you don’t want to do laundry when you go into town to get groceries. Why put up,with issues of freezing temperatures to do laundry when you can save a few weeks worth and do it at a laundromat. Summer is fine , but winter has its challenges and uses lots of electricity. I am sure the pioneers did not wash clothes often in the winter.
Happy Birthday, Michael! You guys are doing a great job! You're putting a lot of thought into your projects, and it shows. I know you will make the right choices for your family, going forward. I hope you have a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year🎉!!
There's a minimum clearance distance between the wood stove and walls, it depends on how much heat output from your stove. We also have a hearth mat on our wall behind the stove.
If you want more solar power, the panels should be 15° more angle than your latitude in winter. Snow will fall off at that angle. I know you mentioned you will adjust when ready. Love watching your videos.
Yes it's a lot of work when you start, Great videos real life 👍, Hope you can get your 1200square foot cabin together next summer :) You spent many hrs doing what you have I kinda feel you should of just done the cabin, You just have to have a floor plan in your head that will work for you :) I only have 800 square feet started in may moved in Oct , (5& of the work done by myself, Try not to do what your going to just have to just take apart , Time is money out here 😃, Merry Christmas
I reameber when my wife and I went of grid was over 40 years ago. We cleared a road in to our property about a quater of a mile long, I cleared the building sight and put up the logs to build our log house the first summer. The next summer I built the log house 900 sq ft we moved in that fall raised 3 children and still live there . We run gas fridge and stove in the summer and wood cook stove in the winter, oh ya we also run gas lighting. Our well is at the bottom of the hill leading up to the house in summer we pump the water up to the house and in winter we run down the hill with buckets and walk back up the hill with them full. We have and old ringer washing machine and a little 1500 watt gen that runs it. We also built a sauna at the same time we built the house that we use as our bath house wood fired of course. Our children are on there own now and well we still live the same way. One thing I will say you do everything a little slower as you get older. We would not have it any other way.

@@OffGridWithGinaThi Yes that one you captured is a huge full circle which is not usual mostly we just get the two sides and not the top and bottom but you caught a beauty.
Depends on how good of terms your on with your building inspector. Besides have you had a look at the garbage there trying to sell you at the lumber store now???

The propane tanks need to be vented to outdoors, in case of a leak or a relief valve opening, be safe😊

It was our first time seeing the moon dog. Pretty cool!

Look up sand batterys put it on the wood stove
2 full totes is 2 heavy. Read up on diesel heaters
Use your sawmill
Vent the dryer inside the trailer
Moisture is the enemy
Are you in an unorganized township? If not you won't be able to build with self milled wood.

To be honest, these videos just seem a little to low energy to watch.
Bye bye and Merry Christmas.
