I just can't get enough of your videos, I work at a fertilizer company so i get the solulable differently price(I even have some waiting for when I get the final housing pots), but I have cuttings discovered from wild ingrafted and gifted unknown red cuttings that are rooting in small pots. Im currently seeking out barrels like you have(blue) to half and make pots for my final enviroments. I am so excited
Very much the common sense approach. Currently in my second flush of buds from my first plantings last year. Had twelve beautiful flowers (no fruits). I'm ok with that. One year into dragonfruit and have twelve varieties, many of which should bloom next season. I DID, however, pinch some of the early smaller flower buds on the previous flush, and sauteed them for a nice side dish, as opposed to just throwing them on the ground! I'd bet you'll be making those videos soon enough! Love your channel and tips Richard! Thank you.
Today is my sister's birthday and I wanted to wish her a very happy B-day. She is also the reason I fell in love with Dragon fruits and OfCourse finding your channel
Hi ... thanks for this info. But I have a question my plants are 2+ years and they are flowering but fruits are small in size and ripping in small size itself. Can you suggest to improve this ?
THANKU GOD BLESS YOU. A VIDEO I WATCHED SAID THAT DURING FLOWERING YOU USE CERTAIN AMOUNT OF FERTILIZER COMBINATION AND FOR FRUITING YOU USE ANOTHER FERTILIZER COMBINATION BECAUSE EACH HAVE DIFFERENT FERTILIZER NEEDS. YES IT WAS PAINFUL TO LOSE MANY BUDS
1 ? What is the size of your productive df. Pot. 2 ? how long do you keep in pot without repotting? 3? How high and thickness is your post in the pot. Love your teaching. This video is what I needed for my store bought df I had planted from seeds, now in a five gallon pot. It has become unmanageable so I prune and now I have these cuttings to grow on a trellis like you have. Thus why I have 3 ? Above.
Hi Richard, Ive been watching your videos since 2019. My dragonfruit trees are two and a half years old and they still don't provide any fruit. Do you have any suggestions on how to get them to bud? I've started using the FloraNova Bloom 4-8-7 recently.
Hi richard can i ask for the recipe of the compost tea please? Because i have a plant that is shrinked. What is best to water with fertilizer 20-20-20 or compost tea??
Hello Richard....I have some Dragon Fruit trees planted in pots like in this video. However the roots are seeking new grounds for growth. Any suggestions? Thanks
I would advise to reset and start a new pot with cuttings again. That is one down fall of growing in pots, once it reaches its bounded state it will decline in production and growth.
Hi Richard, may I ask a question? You're awesome by the way. Ok, I have a dragon fruit that has one fruit ripening on a makeshift trellis, and it is starting to lean over. In your opinion, should I just re-pot the whole plant now before this one fruit ripens, or just let it ripen and re-pot during the winter? My thought is it better to lose one fruit now, and re-pot the plant so the roots can grow during the rest of this season, and possibly get more fruit next season on its permanent stable trellis. The fruit that's on it now is huge and still green. Thank you
I know it's really late for this now, but in my opinion its better to let it do its thing, until the fruit ripens. I would just try to prop it up a little bit with a little extra support if you can. And just wait till next spring to repot it. It's typically not good to repot things in winter because it's the time plants recuperate from the fruiting season, and you're just making it have to use up more energy during the winter when it's trying to prepare for spring. The best time to repot is in the early spring to get the best results for growth. hope this help at all (though very late)
Hi Richard, my dragon fruit plant has a few normal red skin fruits. all except two fruits which are darker. They are near full size as the others. You think they ar going bad?
Branches won’t have effect unless they are the young branches. If they are mature branches you can leave them but any new branches will also take away from the quality.
Hi Richard, one of my dragon fruit branches has 2 buds. One is green and growing. The other one turned brown. How can I avoid this in the future. A few branches have brown dots. Thanks in advance!
I live in the Bay Area and have had numerous plants of different types. Each year my harvest is larger than the year before. Until last year when they produced no fruit at all. Not even flowers. Any idea what could have caused this?
Have you ever tried leaving just the two buds furthest out on the end of the branch, regardless of size? Maybe that will let both buds utilize the energy and nutrients of the whole branch, whereas maybe buds growing in the middle or beginning of the branch can't use energy from sections of the branch past it. At least thats what I'm thinking, but I could be wrong.
I noticed on some of the branches where you are thinning the buds, there are some small offshoot branches. Do you recommend that these be removed as well?
Hi Richard, thank you so much for this video on thinning. I was guite unhappy seeing the droppings of my buds. I am now 4 years into dragon fruit farming but still don't know what variety I am cultivating. It will be of great help if you could put out a video on different varieties of dragon fruit next 🙏
@@GraftingDragonFruit i do use Dr Earth bud & bloom as well, but only before my buds start coming out. Or when just started coming out. BUT i do stop using fertilizer when i see buds. and stop watering when i fruit turns red. I was thinking that i need some kind of compost tea to help grow buds and fruits, but not Fertilizer. Am i correct?
@@pashahere Compost tea isnt a fertilizer and doesnt function very well as a nutrient. Compost tea adds microbial life to the soil and assists in breaking down any organic matter and make it more readily available to the plant. I usually use a bloom booster twice. Once when I see buds form and once about two weeks prior to being ripe.
Our dragonfruit which we started planting 2yrs ago started fruiting this year. Theres not many fruits coming out per plant n the cactus flesh are very thick. Could it b a variety thing or bcs of the soil???
It sounds like your plant is just fine. It might just need a bud & bloom booster to help kick start more buds to produce. I’d recommend Dr. Earth flower girl bud & bloom. It’s all organic and has been working well for me.
Yes it does depend on variety, that the vine grows thick in size, but it also has to do with how your trellis is... if it doesn't grow on a trellis yet, make one. Without a good trellis to let the plant hang over, and proper trimming, it will grow thick and not fruit as much.
What if you fed the plant more to help it be able to handle the buds that you are taking off? Wouldnt that compensate for any demand in nutrients and thus give you more fruit too?
Thinning of fruit is very common for all fruit trees. Apples, stone fruits, (peaches etc) all benefit by fruit thinning. In this case we are taking the buds before they start as fruit, but same concept applies.
I don't even grow dragonfruit but I'm enjoying the charisma and passion of this person explaining everything related to dragonfruit.
Will be waiting for the video update, loved this video, and yes it was sooo painful, I berly planted my cuttings 😅

hey, i have a question, you dont sell your dragon fruits to the markets? what do you do with all of theese fruits, you eat them all?
He has a lot of these he probably sells them and eats some

If they're growing from seeds, they need more years to produce
Mine are one year old and they started to have buds. I use good quality soil and fertilize every 10 days. I use fox farm soil.
Thanks Richard for wrenching my heart lol. For almost 3 years and I just got 1 bud show up
There will be a day when you’ll need to use this info 😆

When you thin them out, will a bud grow back in the same spot at a later time?

Will this have the same/better effect for the fruits?

Does Dragon fruit grow successfully in nature? There is nothing to put them on a post, so they must grow from the ground?

He has talked about using Roots Organics Buddha Bloom in some of his other videos before. I just can't remember which ones.
can you share your recipe for compost tea? Never mind, i did find in the Richards videos ;)

How does one know when the dragon fruits are ready to start budding to produce fruits?
You should cook the buds and make a video! I bet it's epic, deep fried with hot sauce and garlic or something

Asunta 3 is definitely self-sterile.
