- Is the US government prioritising Israel over the safety and well-being of its own citizens?
The United States has recently been struck by two major hurricanes: Helene and Milton. Hurricane Helene caused widespread devastation across the southeastern states, with over 230 fatalities reported and damages estimated at up to $160 billion.
And on 10 October, 2024, Hurricane Milton hit Florida's west coast killing at least 12 people so far. The scale of their combined impact is affecting millions of people across multiple states, causing extensive flooding, widespread power outages, severe infrastructure damage and displacement.
On 26 September, 2024 - the same day that Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida - Israel announced that it secured a $8.7 billion aid package from the US to support its ongoing military efforts.
This caused major backlash online with people taking to social media to voice their concerns about how taxpayer money is being allocated.

I think that was prior to the first hurricane hitting but could have been because of that one they projected this huge loss..

i got hit by milton, and i'm completely outraged. not that i wasnt advocating my hardest for palestine before, but it stings that after a year of american citizens protests falling on deaf ears, and of gaslighting that our governments actions arent in bald defiance of the stated will of people of both sides of the aisle, that now 3 towns my family live in have been destroyed for the sake of the same oil companies that ravage the middle east, and our government continues to stuff their fingers in their ears and spend spend spend on israel, spending money to kill over there and letting us die over here. its a complete failure of the stated goal of our government to protect and care for its citizens. that is clearly not a priority, the priorities are continued global hegemony and more money for the fossil fuel barons and warmongers that own our government.
Milton was terrifying like no storm i've ever experienced as a born and raised Floridian and spending a long week knowing a disaster was coming and an even longer night enduring it and hoping to be spared gave me an even greater appreciation for the horror Palestinians have endured night after night for a year. i'm sickened that i suffer here so they can suffer far greater there, and that my government will offer me no option but that arrangement and has shut down every avenue i am supposed to have to change that.
i love florida, but in so many ways its ruined and it isnt safe for me and i cant thrive here so i'm leaving as soon as i can. and i'm thinking of leaving this evil country entirely. the thought of all my lifes labor going towards our governments actions sickens me, and the government has entrenched itself, shut down or weakened every nonviolent avenue of change. i'm not sure but i think if i actually wanted to make this world a better place, i could probably do much more elsewhere

The problem is far more nuanced. It is the sole responsibility of Congress to allocate strictly dedicated budge funds to different govt departments.
Congress is currently controlled by Republicans meaning that they are in charge of deciding which issues get or don't get attention.
However THE GOP (Like Lindsay Graham in the vid here) would crawl over broken glass and sell their own mothers into slavery before ever refusing to fast track a single penny of Military AID TO ISRAEL. (All Republican's except for one- Thomas Massie)
But the GOP is just as RELIGIOUSLY DEDICATED TO OPPOSING ALLOCATING ANY GOVT (TAX PAYER FUNDS) TO PROVIDE US CITIZENS WITH DISASTER RELIEF TO THEIR CORE.
The day before the 1st hurricane hit every Democratic congressperson voted for more FEMA specific budget funds while 100 Republicans- even those from the most effected states, like Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia voted against any additional FEMA relief.
The GOP & their ideological unholy allegiance to "Free Market" principles has always guided them in being completely against any form of govt funding for & govt provided assistance (welfare, medical help, schools, rental assistance ESPECIALLY Including disaster relief) because they are social darwinists that believe the solution to every problem lies in the private sector.
Not to mention that the the GOP reps voting against funding FEMA to assist with disaster aid are (not) coincidentally some of the top recipients of campaign donations from the US BANKING, REAL ESTATE, CORPORATE LANDLORDS & THE INSURANCE -RACKETS- INDUSTRIES (as in, when the govt steps in to provide those individuals effected with disaster relief help & funds the LESS money they make (in loans, premiums, etc) or if the govt fails to provide assistance for folks to rebuild & the price is then too high for the property owners to stay then real estate/landlords mop up all of the properties for pennies on the dollar meanwhile when the clean up is done these parasites know that they will have a solid monopoly ENABLING THEM TO JACK UP & PRICE FIX WITHOUT COMPETITION on all their newly acquired properties- thus controlling all COMMERCIALS, (BUSINESS) HOMES & RENTAL UNITS on all the property needed by returning area citizens...
