When he stayed you can see how much of this experience he was going to treasure. A parent seeing their child be born for the first time is so precious!~😭🥹🥰
And a moment a parent will never forget❤
My friend's husband had the completely opposite reaction. He divorced her. I think he still has PTSD from what he saw. That was 16 years ago. Can't imagine what he imagined childbirth would be like, but it blew his mind.
A captor watching his sex slave produce his heir.... awww... 🤢🤮
I got to be in the room when my first grandson was born. I stood behind my son just in case I had to catch him. Lol but he did great 👍 mommy and baby are perfect and it was a great experience for all of us!!!! ❤

One of the best lines in the series.
What is the name
Fun fact: back then, in Europe, it was forbidden for men to be in the room during birth..and, except for the Royal Physician, male doctors weren’t allowed either, the town midwife took over. I read about a German doctor, back in the early 1700’s, dressed up as a woman and entered a birthing room (bedroom) because he had never seen a birth-even in medical school-but he was discovered and the town officials immediately hung him! Even in America, a father being in the delivery room started in the 1970’s, before then, the fathers had to stay in the waiting room until the nurse came to give him the news.
I wonder where this somewhat strange custom may have originated. It pretty interesting to me
@memes-me3mz probably something about husband's not finding their wives sexy after seeing birth or something stupid like that.
Because theyre almost all incapable of love and very unintelligent. All they would do is provide stress @memes-me3mz
Not sure how aristocracy and commoners did it, but it's well documented that royal births were attended by a crowd of witnesses of both genders
@@gr33ngirlseamore likely it was some sort of king/leader/clergy deciding to do that during a specific situation that warranted pushing the men out. And either word got around and everyone just decided to copy regardless of complications, or it was decreed to be custom to save face of those in power/clergy.
I love the way they say each other's names, "Charlotte"..." George"...🥰

I had my 1st baby when I was 16 in 1968. I was not allowed anyone in the room with me. Doctors and nurses. While my husband waited in the waiting room. It was very hard. I have 5 children and never had one alone again. The second was born in a dodge dart. Delivered by her uncle. He was over 6'. While my husband drove.

Aggressive
He basically wishes to always be with his wife, but those ancient rules always restrain him, esp his wicked mother 😡😡😡.
But, he slowly found his courage -inspired by Charlotte's bravery-, he could finally has guts to stand up for himself & his wife; from not wanting to see his mother to being a hubby & soon-to-be father by threatening to fire that bishop, despite it was controversial.
Well I will give them this: The problem is partially because of the potential harm that could be done to the child.
The person most likely to kill a pregnant women even today is still her husband.
Having everyone attending be female servants and the one royal physician does mean it's easier to narrow down anyone who would make an attempt on the child's life.
They didn't have paternity tests back then and they didn't have forensics either.
*Most royals only married for power, **_not out of affection._*
I don’t see the mother as wicked honestly. She did what she thougt was best. The illness even now is full of stigma. I cannot imagine what it was back then. Any other person would be in a lunatic facility. She was protecting his right to rule. If a wiff came out that he was having a personality disorder, the vultures would descend. She chose Charlotte after all so her judgement of character was on point.
And it was not called personality disorder. Only madness. With full stigma, fear and no understanding or even curiosity. @@Ashgrom

From Google:
Men were not allowed in delivery rooms for a number of reasons, including medical beliefs and attitudes of the time:
Medical beliefs
Some believed that men might faint, panic, or increase the risk of infection.
Attitudes
Many men and women thought it was not the man's place to be there, and women didn't always want their husbands to see them in that way.
Fear
Some say that men's fear or anxiety about birth can make it more difficult for their partner, potentially stalling labor.
The gradual change in attitudes and practices began in the 1950s and 1960s. Some progressive hospitals, like University College Hospital in London, started to encourage men's presence in 1951. By the 1960s, fathers were regularly allowed in the room during labor, and by the 1970s and 1980s, they were allowed to stay for the birth.
Their story from this viewpoint is something immaculate
Queen Charlotte is a smart woman who truly loves the King. They are perfect for each other.

The weirdest thing to me is that they didn’t breastfeed their own babies-Royalty & the aristocracy had “wet nurses” to do that for them! 😳
A lot of things were indecent for women to do, many still are considered indecent. Especially with status came stricter rules, even more with royalty. Why do something the poor are forced to do when you have the money to prove your better and don't need to partake in such disgusting acts (heavy on the sarcasm). Women in families with money who could not provide milk also had the luxury of their babies surviving as poor babies would simply die.
Imagine, in a time where there was no good alternative to breast milk. You can choose to feed your baby rice water or animal milk, but animal milk was precious and valuable, and what if your family was to poor to afford a cow, sheep, or goat. A wet nurse would be preferable to another child lost to malnutrition. But, wet nurses were also compensated. It was one of the few jobs a woman could do.
We get weird about wet nurses in modern times because we have the luxury to do so. Plus, we've over sexualized breasts to the point we act as if something immoral is happening when a baby is just eating.
As we say in our modern times: fed is best.
@@angeleyesgreen1586 they probably meant it was strange in the case where the mother was more than capable of breastfeeding themselves
@angeleyesgreen1586 Forget The Breast Being Sexualized. Im Not With Feeding My Child Someone Else Bodily Fluids. You Dont Know What People Got. Also My Child Came From Me So Me Body Is Best To Feed It. Not A Stranger
A lot of things weren't seen as decent, one of the daughters of queen Victoria wanted to breastsfeed her children (and she did) when her mother found out she called her daughter a disgusting cow and that she need to stop pretending to be poor (rich people tried to do a lot to seperate themselves from the poor)
They are so good for each other

@@livingincaptivityIII when thay were children yes, as adults not so much.
The way he smiles each time he sees her is so pure
I was in nursing school in 1975. I did my OB rotation. The first part was L&D. The Lamaze method was just starting to gain popularity in South Florida. Most of the women were still ding the twilight sleep. Most spent their labor screaming. It was no wonder the fathers had to stay in the waiting room. Trying to explain that their wife would have little to no memory of their labor would be difficult because of their obvious discomfort. I have my first child 5 years later. I did not want any medication and had attended all the classes. I had back labor in addition to being induced. I did have 12.5 mg of Demerol. It just about knocked me out but allowed me to relax enough that my labor finally progressed. Years later I needed to have major surgery. I chose to have an epidural. I think it's the best of both worlds. You are awake and aware cooperative but not in dire pain
That may have been your experience with an epidural, but with both of my births, it just paralysed my legs and made my back so much worse. 13 years later, and I'm living in chronic pain. Bones braking over & over & over type of pain. Iv been like this since I was 19. Not everything is as amazing as you have made it out to be, for everyone. Others who may consider an epidural, remember not everything is a 'fit for all'.
That’s one HELL of a distraction 😂
Why couldn't he be in there?
The show was set a long time ago and these type of things would be considered gross and usually only women and 1 male doctor would be in the room not the fathers or any men other then the doctor hope this helped 🙂
In the time period, it was thought to be inappropriate/indecent because it was woman's work on woman's body. Which is odd seeing as they used men (doctors) to check for virginity, which meant sticking fingers up the hoo-hah to check for a hymen.
He got her pregnant in the first place, y would it be weird😭
@@A_random_idiot.8 the answer is in your question. If he sees what happens to us she may never get pregnant again 😂
Exactly. Men simply weren't allowed to be part of the birthing process. They sat and waited, smoking and celebrating with friends. Then, once the mess was removed, he was presented with his child. Ridiculous, I know.

One of my favorite movies... A must see. The city of Charlotte named after this queen.
Yes. I live in the “Queen City” as it’s called. There’s great beauty, splendor & strength but also the crime, poverty, violence of any large city. 😢 I DO wish the history was more like this portrayal though: changing from “black/white” or “them/us” to just human beings. That’s how I choose to live anyway! To me, there’s only 1 race: the human race. Lottie & George aren’t (to me) an interracial couple. They’re simply a couple.
She was a German woman as white as snow. Falsifying history is the same as doing it to banknotes.

Its too bad the younger ladies of today don't see the difference.
Firm but fair with a side order of tenderness and kindness ❤
Is anyone going to point out that baby has light hair, with both parents having black hair? They didn't choose the baby actor very well in this.
Genetics happened. Both parents can have recessives gene who can make it happen, which is why some white parents had a black baby, black parents had a white baby, parents with black eyes had kids with blue eyes, and so on and so on.
My babies were blonde until about age 6 while their father and I are both dark haired. Like blue eyes these things can change over time.
Babies’ hair & eye color usually changes some months after birth. Many babies are born with dark blue eyes that change. My hair was blonde. Now it’s chestnut brown.
Charlotte is actually a white woman. He sees her as black because he's insane. The child confirms this
