Well, you did both comment many moons ago that you wish that door was wider. Now you can get a decent sized show piece wooden door, given especially as it will your "front door" from March. Better to find out the issues with the walls now before the new roof goes on and the pending hard work on updating the concrete ring beam. Good to see happy families on the donkey front, I know Bec's you were really worried how Toby would react but all your hard work to get him settled and medically sound has obviously paid off, and now you have a happy couple that can enjoy their life to the maximum and they can both forget any hardships from the past.
Thanks Joe. I'm trying to source a bargain stable door for it. That will make the pain rebuilding it worthwhile. I hope to have a couple of donkey heads peeking through next summer when all this will be a distant memory! 🍀🤞
Had to be done.. you’ll have confidence in knowing every doorway is solid and secure. You’ll find an amazing door to put there!! Can’t wait to see what you will find!! It’s gonna be great!!!
You two are Trojans! No job too fiddly, too big, too heavy or too yucky! Just so wonderful and dedicated, the pair of you! And just think, this time next year, you’ll be laughing’! Good luck to you both and the kids and the farm pets❤️😊
Few weeks back Sam says he wasn’t a stone mason….. fast forward a few weeks the man seems to have the skills to be anything he wants ! Amazing work ethics from him and becca! Dream team
Only seen 2 minutes and I had to rewind to watch the donkeys again. How fantastic to see that they are pals at last. How wonderful to see them just hanging around together 😍
Sam, if I was sailing on the high seas and a gale wind storm blew in, I would want you on board just because of your positive disposition whenever dark clouds and trouble appear. You and Bec do great things ... keep at it!
@richardrodgers7311 I agree, Sam does have a positive attitude. He doesn't moan and complain about weather or work. Anything unexpected doesn't cause him to crumple and he even smiles for us! You are doing excellent stone work, Sam. Keep up the positive vibes.
Tilly! You named her Tilly. It was wonderful to see them standing together. Toby resting his head on her back, so very content. They are so lovely together.
Oh how WONDERFUL to see Toby and Tilly together. My heart leapt for joy at the very first shot of them resting against each other. Thank you for your compassion and giving them such a great life 🎉❤ also great to see Nell has just taken another member of the homestead under her wing and watchful eye ❤
Stunning! I wish you could live stream and we could comment live, you have a natural gift for making things Sam. I understand the standing back and wondering if it’s right but it’s so easy for us to see from a distance. Honestly the life you are breathing into this cottage is so emotional to watch. Everything that’s happening at the Irish Homestead is a rescue and love mission. ❤ And you are all doing a wonderful job.
Seeing where Toby came from and that you were the only ones who interacted with him this sight brings tears and joy to my heart and I thank you for that. Here’s to many happy memories of Toby and beautiful Tilly❤
Toby and Tilly seem to be bonding yet your wonderful dog seems to remain Toby's loyal companion. Your ginger kitten is thriving, your rooster crows and Toby brays. You've literally got your own Bremen Town Musicians (donkey, dog, cat, rooster). Fingers crossed that you win at "Game of Stones" because 'winter is coming.' Thanks for the update.
Congratulations Becca, on completing the interior walls! Sam, I am so impressed by your stone masonry skills. Yes, the unstable stonework is frustrating. More work! However, I think it is a blessing in disguise, as you will now have larger doorways either side of the cottage. So potentially a greater amount of natural light coming through the doors (depending on which style of doors & ratio of glass you choose). Btw, I shuddered when you said you'd been working on Friday 13th! Fantastic to see your channel has more than seventy thousand subscribers. Well done, to a hard working & genuinely lovely couple. Take care. x
This is a minor setback and you’ll both take it in your stride because that’s how you are and why you’re one of my favourite channels. Never change who you are or how you tackle life, you make an awesome team. You deserve to have the nicest cottage in Ireland when it’s completed. ❤
Ja!!! Friday the 13th ís a menace, but u guys got sò far, don't let that beat u!! I absolutely love y're ginger kittens/cats!! I have a big soft spot 4 them - in fact ány cat!! Glad the 2 folks r also settling so keep the chin up & persevere!! U'll get there in the end & r also giving an old aunty's lots of pleasure watching youngsters doing such a job-&-a-half!!!!!❤
Guys, very impressed with the stone work. Your old wood your taking out (lintels etc) I can make you guys some pens/pencils from it if you would like. I don't need much to make them from 20x20x100mm. If you would like some let me know and we can see what happens. Thanks for the videos enjoying them very much. Slan go Foill Conor
Bec what you have done with Toby is magical from everyone who loves Donkeys THANK YOU SO MUCH your a inspiration to us all may God keep you and yours safe a big hug.
I’ve said it before but your channel is the best. I can’t believe you’re not in the hundreds of thousands when it comes to subscription’s. Your channel and “Escape to Rural France” are the two I prefer over all others. Thank you again for allowing us to follow in your journey. I truly hope blessings on you and your family.
Sam and beckey you two are the best team ever . What a great job you made of that doorway. and Becky is amazing the amount of pointing she has done .. The donkeys seem to be getting on ok . Good luck 🍀🍀🍀 stay strong the difference in that' homestead is a real credit to all your hard work and dedication ❤😊 🫂💪💪
Well done again both of you. I just love the way that all the animals have the freedom to go where they want. Every now and then you see the chickens just walking past Sam. Lol
Another great production guys. Love how Sam explains what he wants to do and his thinking behind it. You can see how that doorway has been narrowed before with the stone line both sides. I think the door frame was put in and stones cemented behind it. Rebecca could easily talk in a master builders conference. Her confidence in speaking about problems and solving them is credible to her commitment to the job getting done.
This setback is a blessing in disguise. You are making the cottage more secure. Love Toby and Tilly together. They look so happy and content. Keep up the good work.
Seems Sam enjoys playing his own version of "Game of Stones".....you are both machines, so much to do & so little time. Toby & Tilly are a pleasure to watch. Thanx for sharing your rocky ups & downs with us....❤
Seeing Toby and Tilly cuddling like that was so heartwarming, you all have worked a miracle for Toby! Bless your hearts! 😊🩶🫏🫏🩶😊 The latest foster is adorable too! 🧡🐱🧡
You’re both doing a great job, team work makes the dream work! All your hard work is paying off, also I am thrilled that you have called Toby’s new friend Tilly ( the name I suggested 😉) and probably other people did too, so glad they’ve bonded, they’ll have a happy life together on your lovely little homestead! 😊
SAM'S AND BECKY'S ARE AN AWESOME AMAZING WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE COUPLE TOGETHER DARLINGS LOVE AND ENJOY YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR AND PERSONALITY TOGETHER DARLINGS IT'S ALL GOOD STUFF TOGETHER REGARDLESS DARLINGS
I’m sorry you have the extra work on the other door, but it was so narrow it probably would have been a problem anyway. This way you can build one that’s actually useable for modern things. The Kitty and the donkeys and the puppy are adorable.❤️🐝🤗
Setbacks are inevitable with older buildings, to make the door wider would be the way to go but looking at the stone further in it’s going to mean a similar job as the front door. We all know ye can do it and yere determination is inspiring. Well done 👍
A small blip in the progress your making, and much better to find out now than later on, I’m sure you will appreciate a wider door opening also. Love seeing all the animals wandering about while your working, the homestead is becoming just that 💙👍
It may be a set back but to me it was just as well it happened now and not when you put in the window. But knowing you Sam and Bec you both will take it in your stride and that will will be stronger than ever. So Glad Toby and Tilly are getting on with each other, Toby looks so much happier. Love your newest addition to the cat family. Have a lovely week end.
It is so lovely to see the two beautiful donkeys so happy together now. That dear little marmalade kitten is so adorable! You are doing a fantastic job. Blessings from a sunny morning in West Devon, England, and Jilly & Madge. xxx
I find your videos so relaxing to watch! I just love watching the animals run around freely. So sorry your plans for the doorway didn't go to plan but you have both done an amazing job on the other one! You are doing so well and providing us with brilliant content even though it is such hard work for you both xx
Wonderful to see Toby and Tilly together ♥️ You are such incredibly hard grafters. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us its a real privilege. Bless you all.xx
So thrilled about Toby and his friend!! The foster kitten is adorable! I so envy the cooler weather! In Chicago we still have the 80's Fahrenheit, (27 Celsius). I'm dying for the fall. My whole house is decorated for the fall and Halloween, now if the weather would just cooperate. I'm so sorry about the set back, but I guess that's part of the package when you rehab an old building. You guys are doing great!
Good pacing (if that's the technical term) of editing in this episode. 😊 Nell has a busy life, now that she's supervising the building, as well as herding the animals.
Wow what a difference when the stonework is done, looking fantastic! Just a little more stonework than originally anticipated but nothing phases you Sam and a wider door to boot, will look amazing! The animals melt my heart but Toby and Tilly, what can I say ❤️ How is the little kitten with the broken leg doing? I will definitely follow in your footsteps with the fostering and maybe a couple of donkeys 😊 Your pointing is spot on Rebecca, just finishes the stonework off beautifully 😊 Can't wait for next week's adventures ❤
We have faith in our Sam , just repeat the sterling job you did at the front door . I admire your ability to foster kittens Beccy , I would want to keep them all ....all 3 of our ladies were rescued
10:10 you’re heaving that stone, the rooster 🐓 starts up crowing then the donkey 🫏 braying! 😂 you couldn’t have timed sound fx any better!! Life is Good ✨🕊️💚☘️💚🕊️✨
For an Amateur Stone Mason, you are doing a great job. ... Maybe it's a good thing to find the weak spot in the door opening. It will help in the long run. ..... keep up the good work.
that connecting wall between the two buildings looks like it has always been there . glad the donkeys are getting on ,now toby does not have to be alone
Wow! Thank you for getting Toby, Tilly 😂 I am happy for them both. And Sam, you are one hard-working man, mercy. Oh, I'm not forgetting Becca, what a woman😊. I wish I could afford to support you guys, but times are getting so expensive. It's just hard. God's getting you thru all this with your wonderful supporters. And I even thank them. Love the dog, I forgot his name. He's the best animal watcher. ❤
You are going to experience moments like that. Elation then crushed. A structure tells its story and requests your love for the project is deep enough to save. Never consider those moments a setback. That building is being vulnerable exposing history and showing what she needs. Have a good week 🦋🌻
I agree, keep the stripping to the stone work, “Winter is coming” after all. Onwards and upwards, you’re all doing fantastic work. It’s going to look great once complete. Toby and Tilly look very content, glad that all seems to be working 🥂
Its nice to see that the animals seem to enjoy the environment in the background. Unexpected surprises during renovations is par for the course, but you're doing a great job of fixing them properly. 👍👍👍
Thank you for caring for Toby & Tilly you made my heart sing when you took advice from the Donkey sanctuary to get Toby a friend they are sociable animals so wonderful to see them together Thank you for vlogging every week watching your progress is a joy ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Tilly.......what a beautiful name and so happy for Toby 😀You’ve both done a lot of work on the cottage and although the stonework has got to be rebuild you can choose how wide you’d really like your door. Love your vlogs ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅
Great team, stone is an art as much as the craft. How selection and placement of the right stone shows the spirt of the craftsmen. Then there’s pointing that glues the soul of the build. Great progress
The stone work and pointing is so good. Love the pair of donkeys, he just needed a friend. Watching the dog is funny, he has his eye's on everyone and everything, when all is in place he lay's down and watches to see what is next. He is beautiful and so smart. The house is coming along nicely. Enjoy watching your re-build, such hard work but seeing the finish is remarkable.
Note to myself, must buy a bigger grinder. Also not sure I could foster kittens. I would keep them all. Meanwhile, I am watching to learn for when we are attempting to fix our 200 year old stables (house in the olden days...)
Keep the faith you will get there, the donkeys are looking in fine health after seeing the donkeys up in the Donegal donkey sanctuary this week with a baby donkey up there called Rose I can see how happy your donkeys are looking keep up the great work you will get there ❤🫏🫏
Such a great thing to see Toby & Tilly together. Becca, you and the family have done an incredible job with Toby in such a short time. You have a magic touch with animals. Even Nell is getting to express her herding instincts with gusto! Don’t show her to your local sheep farmers, they’ll be offering a fortune for her! 😊. Bad luck with the wall, but better to find out now than after you put the new lintels in! Cheers to you all! 😊
Oh dear the joys of renovation. Sometimes it must feel like one step forward, two steps back. Never mind I am sure you will have it sorted by the time we see you again. That beautiful kitten, you have hearts of gold, the way you rescue love and enjoy these beautiful animals.
Gees guys, one step forward 2 back. I have no doubt that you 2 will fix it perfectly. Love that the Donkeys have developed a close bond. I just adore listening to the cacophony of animal sounds at you build.
So happy to see the donkeys doing so well together! Just love watching them…also funny to see the chickens “helping” out. Things are really starting to come together on the renovation/build! Love watching the progress each week and following your journey!
When you mentioned 'setback' in the title it had me really worrying! But with all that you guys have accomplished and done so far, that crumbling doorway is just a blip (yeah yeah, I know I"m not doing the hard work though!) Anyway, lovely to see Toby & Tilly getting along so well - and love that little rescue at the end - she/he is sooo adorable! You actually posted this BEFORE the Man United game, so finally got to see it early on. Take care across the pond! :)
That big opening came out stellar!Even though the other one crapped out, what you expect from a 300year old farm house! Loving what you guys are doing to the old place.
I remember about a year ago that Sam was worried about his lack of stone masonry skills... to watch him now it's like he's cutting cheese. The doorway is a pain but at least you can now make it wider. Great work.
You are one of the few home builders I have heard on TH-cam that have understood the concept that bad weather comes in Winter! Snow, Frost, Rain, Storms, Clarts oh happy days to replace a roof ...NOT I made a living working in the Snow, Frost, Rain, Storms, Clarts, trying to repair home builders basic mistakes that the sun shines every day of the year. You dear people are among the few that have learnt that frost concrete and clarts dont mix at all well when the nights draw in. Great Vids Good luck gang.
Thanks. The pressure is definitely on, but we have just resigned ourselves to the fact the roof will be off in bad weather and we will have to make the best of it. If we weren't going for the grant, we would potentially have waited, but that's the way it fell with the time it's taken to get the stonework sorted.
Yes keep your fingers crossed for us and thanks for appreciating that we are doing this despite the potential bad weather in order to meet our deadline. 👍🍀
Uh oh, I see another foster fail coming on! Bec loves the gingers. You guys are an awesome team. Love that Toby and Tilly get along so well. You've changed Toby's spirit by researching and finding out what he needed. So much love and compassion for animals!❤

They seem happy together
@gillianmeehan3206 I loved seeing them both heading for the shelter when it started raining....in their own time of course 🤣

You did a grand job of that stone work looks great, how happy does Toby look, what a difference you have made to his life.👍🇭🇲🇭🇲🇭🇲🇭🇲
What a brilliant team you are.
The dog still wants to be with Toby and Tilly, that’s the sweetest thing ever!
I love that Toby get on so well with Tilly they will be good company for each other
It was a good thing you discovered that weak masonry around that door now and not later
When u hit the like button before u watch it bc u know it will be good 😂 donkey heaven so pleased for Toby .
Skills being learnt on the job 👌💪
I do that too!!
Wonderful to see the donkeys so happjy together ❤
Just bloody brilliant.

Thank you for caring for Toby & Tilly you made my heart sing when you took advice from the Donkey sanctuary to get Toby a friend they are sociable animals so wonderful to see them together
Thank you for vlogging every week watching your progress is a joy ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
So very happy for Toby to have a friend. The house is coming along beautifully even with the minor setbacks. Being re-built with love.
Note to myself, must buy a bigger grinder.
Also not sure I could foster kittens. I would keep them all. Meanwhile, I am watching to learn for when we are attempting to fix our 200 year old stables (house in the olden days...)
Keep the faith you will get there, the donkeys are looking in fine health after seeing the donkeys up in the Donegal donkey sanctuary this week with a baby donkey up there called Rose I can see how happy your donkeys are looking keep up the great work you will get there ❤🫏🫏
Keep going, we took out so called roof off then we had the biggest storms of the year. Lol I know your pain. Lol X
Dad killed that stonework! Made it look easy. Wow can’t believe how much his skills have improved. “Not a stonemason” my ass!!! Great job 🎉🪨🧱
it is so funny to see that little chihuahua run around in the time lapse like a little mouse lol
I like how Toby and Tilly are getting along. Cracks me up to see the chickens run around inside.
I love watching the stonework. The original LEGOS 😉
You’ve done such a great job of the stonework, looks great! You’ll no doubt make a great job of the doorway rebuild too! 🙌
Great work.
Glad toby has a new friend and they get on well together.❤
Its funny how the Dog is so Fascinated with Toby, Hope She doesn't get Jealous now that He has a Mate, I wonder if She thinks Toby is a Giant Dog?
🤣 no idea but she still hangs around like a spare part. They mostly ignore her sadly for her. 🤣
I’m just going to say bloody well done Sam great work. And Becky followed with the pointing. Brilliant guys.
Wow, seeing Toby with Tilly happy brought a tear to my eye, thinking back to the sad life Toby had when you found him. You are amazing ❤
@@theirishhomestead Understood, lets hope its a mild winter for all concerned and good luck with the new member of the family
Yes keep your fingers crossed for us and thanks for appreciating that we are doing this despite the potential bad weather in order to meet our deadline. 👍🍀
Brilliantly work you two,,well worth the trials and setbacks 💞. Toby & Tilly hearing the donkeys braying the background so sweet 💞
Uh oh, I see another foster fail coming on! Bec loves the gingers. You guys are an awesome team. Love that Toby and Tilly get along so well. You've changed Toby's spirit by researching and finding out what he needed. So much love and compassion for animals!❤
So happy to see that Toby and Tilly are getting along so well!
“Who’s gonna rebuild it?” The Man. He who is becoming one with the stone. As you said, “The answer will come.” You and Bec have this! 🥰🥰🥰
