An additional safety measure would be to add a PRV set to 2000 psi before the p.o. check. That way, if the po check ever sticks, it’ll stop from blowing out the rod seal again.

Anytime you alter the design of a hydraulic system, you automatically assume the manufacturer's liability. Moreover, if you are hired by the owner of a hydraulic to solve a problem, and you proceed, both you, and the owner, assume liability. If you have the knowledge to solve the problem, your responsibility is to either tell your customer to call the OEM, or contact the OEM yourself. The point is; never take the system's original design engineer out of the loop. Respectfully
