I note that when Donna laid down the rules for while Josh was recovering the senior staff followed them instead of pulling rank. That tells you a lot about the respect they held for her.
Also I note Josh's question at 9mins bearing the events of January 6th in mind a very prophetic question.
Pretty sure no one was just caring about the office rank structure at that point
The staff (and the show) benefited hugely from the presence of competent assistants who were as dedicated to their bosses as to their jobs.
The President who got me through the Bush Years, would've Loved to have it on during the Trump Years. Always enjoyed the flashback scenes.

It was so hard to choose between Amy or Donna gettingJosh.. both good women.. I wouldn’t have been mad at him ending up with Amy.. but I mean they catered to the fan base.. It only made sense for them to end up together.. even though
They kinda caved to convention.. it was still such a good show I didn’t mind.. I bought this entire series about over 15 years ago when I was in college.. and I was a military spouse living in Japan on base over there and it was a moment.. I marathon this now about every two years.. I’m a hard core West Wing fan.. and I fucking loooove Amy Gardner.. her and CJ inspired me a lot.. I loved Donna but she always fit Josh more than she always fit the show..

Amy never even called after he was shot. Not once.
Amy was always using Josh as leverage for her agenda - a means to an end; as @suratroadkingpvtltd5769 pointed out, Amy never called once after he was shot. Donna stood by Josh through thick and thin.
@@FrozenHero2010 that we know of.. I’m sure lots of people called Josh.. also.. Amy was introduced in season 3.. Josh was shot in Season 2.. so you’re putting the cart before the horse.. and Josh constantly used Amy for his agenda.. always defend the man.. Josh got Amy fired from a job.. yeah you have no idea what you’re talking about..
