Wonderful childhood memories😊. Another feely sad song Sad😭Eyes Like “Seasons In The Sun”😢lol 79/80. A blast from the past. 12 yrs old n innocent slow dances with my bestie(💙10) in his kitchen on a small record player 45’s, not really knowing what the songs meant. Except they were slow n hugged eachother going round n round in his kitchen. The Best Days Eva❣️Then we went out n played marbles n ate pizza. He moved to another state w/his mom n never saw eachother again🥴Funny how folks come in/out of your life n ya just keep on Keeping On👍. Never phazed us cuz we were kids. We didn’t have sappy love feelings like young adults w/sad songs. Just a cute memory👍

+BerlinFan82 I love the Lead Guitar Solo ♫♬ near the end of the song. It's so emotional, sad ☹ & it pulls you in...
It would be great to see Robert John perform with a backing Band & that fantastic female background vocalist. ☻

Great song. Always on my playlist but this 1979 video of him lip syncing is hilarious.
Especially the end of the song when he starts singing the part that Darlene Love sings.
Folks that’s not his voice at the end belting out the raw emotion. It’s Darlene.

This is the extended play version, from the 33 RPM album "Robert John." This version is different from the 45 RPM version, which is the version that was most commonly heard on the radio, way back in the spring and summer of 1979. This is a wonderful tune and I remember it very, very well. It took real talent to perform/record a song like this. So very different from the drek of today. Hearing "Sad Eyes" again brings back many, many memories. Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

  • @robertgamble2829

Classic 1970s, composed and arranged by the singer himself, the slow and powerful rhythm emulates the northern British sounds, but Robert John turns out to be pure Brooklyn and he took this to No 1 in 1979. The support dancers are a bonus especially as on reflection they would all be well into their 60s by now. A slight change of tack here as there are so many top music pieces worthy of saving and Fleetwood Mac is current top of the list, however this is so typical of the '70s era as it needed to be saved early, and on reflection, the comments below are all priceless. Every one has their sad moments, Maidstone Railway Station hits a chord from long ago, but the world has turned many times and the occupants come and go, but this music remains eternal and these days very thankfully so.

One Of My Faves From The 70s. Great Song, Awesome Performance. But I Guarantee That All Those Amazing High Notes & Awesome Screams That He Would Hit On His Songs Could Never Ever Be Reached Again Quite The Same Way Or As Perfectly As On Record. And In The 70s, Most Of These One-Time/One Song/One Hit Wonders Didn't Have To Worry About Recreating The Song In A Live Setting; The Single Would Be Released, Would Be Picked Up By Radio & Become A Hit, Then The Performer Would Promote The Song By Doing The Lip-Synch Circuit Of Soul Train, American Bandstand, Solid Gold, ETC....Singer/Songwriters Like Billy Joel & Elton John, The Rock Bands, & 10-20 Piece R&B Groups Did All The Live Touring Because They Were More Album-Oriented.

Robert sank into his car seat and closed the door. The smell of the morning's coffee and doughnuts still hung heavy in the air. 'Short and sweet' he thought, 'probably for the best'. Eyes moistening, he looked ahead, the large, open door to the service-centre workshop obscured through his tears, as a small pair of headlights poked through the darkness, visible in the half-light. 'Obsolete??, Can't get the parts??, Nothing we can do??', images of the brief meeting from only minutes earlier swirled around his head, the cold anxiety of that moment now replaced with gasping sobs, 'She was the best ride-on mower any man could ever have wished for, Goodbye Old Girl', tears now streaming down his face, he lay back and closed his eyes....

Robert John's falsetto is so high, he makes Barry Gibb sound like Barry White.

well, see, what old cap there doesn't like about it, is that the song actually makes sense, instead of that bunch of puking dribble that they make these days. where it takes old justin there & 5 others just to write `oh baby baby baby no baby' within a span of about a month if not more, it only took one or two to write sad eyes . Heck, mj & lionel ritchie wrote `we are the world' in 2 hours. Better than any crap that justin & his flunkies ever came up with !
