The Man Behind a $4 Billion Airline | Tony Fernandes, AirAsia

  • This is Tony Fernandes, CEO of AirAsia. Twenty-two years ago, he bought a stagnating airline with a $10 million debt for a symbolic 20 cents from the Malaysian government. Within a decade, Tony transformed the company into a multibillion-dollar business and one of the biggest airline brands in the world. As we chatted Tony shared with me how he managed to revolutionize air travel, how not to sink into depression after losing an aircraft in a horrific crash, and his biggest secret to success in life. Enjoy!

@@commentatorxyz5514 Well honestly what do you expect him to say given the questions asked (e.g. I made it moment, best advice, features of a great CEO)? His responses to the questions are fine in my opinion. It sure sounds like you have something personal against him given that you have made the same comment twice. Maybe you are the one with a personality disorder.

I like AirAsia. Yes they are a little disorganized. Even their website is a little disorganized. But they are humanistic. They look after their passengers in a genuine way. The same can’t be said about Scoot. They are organized, but they are more interested in showing what they are good at but forget about taking care of their customers.

It’s a good video with great content but the constant cutting of camera angles made it really difficult to watch. They cut every 3 seconds.

@@idoit5005 I seen your comments on this video and i feel like you defending criticism of this dude because he's Malaysian (even though in an interview he stated that he cant even speak Malay) and nothing else. Just pure idiotic nationalism, no wonder Malaysia isn't moving forward like the rest...

@@steammanx you are entitled to your opinion, and i agree very much that malaysia isn't moving forward, and it is for quite a number of reasons like serious problem with politics, poor work ethics and culture of corruption too. but to me not being able to speak the native language isn't a problem at all. a country is truly great when anyone bearing its passport is taken care of like treasure, and just like any other citizen

Budget airline was a new biznes model in the early 2000s. It’s not a revolutionary idea by Tony. But how he cheated customers refunds says something else

He clearly didn't want to talk about it.

Same with Jim Rogers but everyone reacts differently to such questions and we got to learn how these individuals dealt with it. I’d say Max did the hard thing and we benefited

Perfect example of how a single man can mean life and death of a company. How a CEO truly deserves CEO pay. This is to those naysayers who thinks the pay gap between highest and lowest is unjustifiable and ridiculous.

Tony, like many non malays businesses has no choice but to work hard to survive as we do not receive special privilege like natives. Those special privilege works two ways. It makes some native dependent on gov based on race. While some were successful enough.

The irony is many natives are not actually natives in the ordinary sense of the word, but recent migrants or children of recent migrants from Indonesia.
