New Zealand is the first country to call in the new year by three hours, Sydney is a fantastic place to be on new years, Ive been several times over the years. Kiwi here from NZ.
Kiribati (pronounced Kiribahss) is an island nation that enters each new day first. Some of its islands are actually located in the Line Islands in Eastern Polynesia. Kiribati is where the International Date Line (IDL) goes wonky to ensure that all of its islands are on the left hand side of the IDL. I think there are a few other island nations ahead of NZ. Australia follows NZ two hours later.
First to welcome in the New Year (geographically speaking) is the Pacific Nation of Kiribati. Then followed soon after by New Zealand, then Australia with an awesome bridge/harbour show 😁
Sydney has barges moored along the bay, so you're better off down river, with the bridge in the background, so you can see the heights of what's happening on the bridge as well.
We get in pretty early but we definitely aren't the first to bring in New Year. Our NZ cousins might spit the dummy hearing you say that (they aren't first either but get in a couple of hours a head of us). We are probably first with a world class and most years best in class fireworks display though. That does mean you gotta plan early and get your ass in early (like a day or 2 camping out early) if you want a good spot, best to know someone on the north side with an apartment with a view to avoid the crowds altogether.
Sydney and Melbourne would be the first major cities to celebrate the new year. Auckland in New Zealand, a smaller city, would bring in the new year 2 hours earlier than Sydney and Melbourne.
@@bodybalanceU2 Brisbane is largish at about 2.6 million people but I wouldn't call it major, therefore Auckland being smaller isn't in the same category. Perhaps we should make New Zealand our seventh state, then Auckland would become our fifth largest city:)
@@quarkcypher but it is not the major city of a country which Auckland is and new Zealand is considered important as aus so nz is the first country to celebrate the new year with substantial fireworks and we know how much you aussies want us to join Australia - yeah na we're good
Yes I should have said either “ the first major city or one of the first cites “ 🤦🏾♂️. But for some reason in the USA when they cover NYE the always start with the Show in Sydney , then a few in Asia , followed by Paris , London , then Newyork .
Yep gotta get there early and stake out a spot. Some people get there the day before and camp out, or early that morning like 5am. You won’t even get to the harbour if you leave it to later on NYE. And it’s usually all ticket holders now right down on the harbour and Opera House Forecourt. You’re better off getting there early and getting a ferry over to Cremorne, or Blues Point, or Luna Park precinct, on the other side of the harbour, or going to Rushcutters Bay.
@@mikelowry5061 if your in Australian for a New Year Eve the best place to get best footage of fireworks is MacArthur Seat in the Botanical Garden but you have to get there very early in the morning the next best is the opera house. The only better footage then these two places are to have a boat and take it from there.
Actually NewZealand and Gran ich are the first. Any country between gran ich and Australia have New Year before us. It comes from e the international Date line.
You need to plan ahead, you obviously didn't do your research on the new year's celebrations in Sydney. I've seen Americans come here and simply miss out because they assumed too much without doing research of where to be for viewing. Nearly 2 million people crowd the harbour to view the new year's fireworks. Try next year
@@marcusversace9423 You are correct. Even without planning we still should have been there hours earlier , probably by 4pm and looked around for the best locations . But with no planning and getting there late …. But I think I made up for it with the footage from the Australia Day fireworks show
Actually, Kiribati and New Zealand celebrade New Years before we do. How about you go to another capital for Australia Day celebrations though. Sydney is great and all that, but there's a lot more to us than just Sydney - it's brash and gauche on the whole, but it really does know who to put on a show 🎉
Yes besides Sydney I have been to Brisbane , Surfers Paradise , and Melbourne but that was all before I was doing TH-cam . I will do a real "All Australia" trip soon .
Lol. I live in Qld. I woke up after falling asleep watching a movie to hear the 9.30 fireworks this year. I couldn't even be bothered leaving the house. Those crowds are a nightmare to me too mate😂

@@robbiecarroll5491 Actually it's Kiribati 🙂
Actually no one cares
@@Kailan_Moala No, actually, it's-you don't care. Other people may be interested in the information. This is a totally unnecessary and stupid comment.

What a third world disaster
nz is before Australia in celebrating new years, but i believe there's a few islands that celebrate new years an hour or 2 before nz does
