Oh, thank you love! I feel life is to short so I always look at the beauty in all things. I have truly fallen in love with the UK! It will be a big part of my heart forever and always. 🤍 Jess x
Ooops ! yeah you should have turned left near the Bus/Railway station & headed down the road to Bowness ( on - Windermere ) where they start the pleasure boat tours & there are loads of shopping opportunities & the cable ferry that takes you across the lake !...We were there last July for a week & your USAF frequent the lake nearly everyday in the summer flying their F15 Strike Eagles at very low level. You should visit in the summer when the weather is a bit more favourable !
It does sound like it would be amazing in the summer time too. However, we try to get to see as much as we can, regardless of the season. Cheers, Chris
During summer or when ever the weather is good for a few days at a time. It becomes a hellscape of walkers in the road off the paths and cars literally abandoned on these narrow roads and paths. I'm from a little way outside The Lake District to the north, but I grew up walking and climbing these hills, fells and mountains and paddled in the lake, meres and waters from a young age. You need to see it in the sun, but also on a cold day on the top of a hill looking down on the clouds during a cloud inversion, where you are literally looking down on the clouds, looking out, glancing from one peak to another as they poke through the clouds.
I love that you are so adventurous and that you are not deterred by the weather. The UK is very small, but there is so much to experience, the age is overwhelming. The roads are not easy to navigate, congratulations for dealing with them so well. A beautiful video. Thank you.
Travelling in inclement weather can be very rewarding, but you do have to have a positive state of mind to really appreciate it, and your family has positivity in spades. The views are 'resting' until the mad rush of spring and summer, but I agree with you that the greyness and misty atmosphere does have a charm of its own. That was a beautiful video. Another success ! Cheers ! Sheffield South Yorkshire.
I'm from Suffolk but I love the Lake District and stay in either Ambleside or Keswick, both of which are great! So happy you got there and love your enthusiasm as always!
Ilkley to burnsall to grassington and onto Kettlewell is a stunning trip in Yorkshire. All creatures great and small is filmed in Grassington. Also Skipton with the small castle and barges on the canals and obviously York. You need to get out and walk in each of them. Hope you get to enjoy them.
I love that you are enjoying our country. Not without faults but you cannot deny, that away from modern towns, it is charming with an olde world feel. At least you avoided the snow.
Dear Jess & Chris I just wanted to thank you, as so many others have, for this wonderfully detailed overview of the Lake District. Your enthusiasm & delight at all the things that area of supreme beauty has to offer, is so well presented by you both. The Lakes are indeed a wonder, quite possibly the most beautiful scenic setting in all England. Going there in Springtime is truly magical & has been an inspiration for poets such as Wordsworth & writers alike. You saw it at its most barren & yet the mysticism & spiritual nature of the Lakes was fantastically illustrated by your camera work & the drone footage was, as always, exceptional. Yet another 10/10 for me. Best wishes to the whole family 🤗❤️
Well thank you for the great review. We had a great time and were excited it came across well on the camera. We continue to stive for a great experience for ourselves and to share. Cheers, Chris
Where I was born and brought up. There is so much more to see. Go from Ambleside up Kirkstone pass, then on down to Lake Ullswater. On the top of Kirkstone pass is a beautiful pup dating from 1550 and is known to be haunted. Hollywood has even visited. Well done, love your enthusiasm. xx
I live at the north end of the Lake District. It's much quieter this week - you were at the tail end of the Christmas/New Year holidays, which is why it was busy. The weather has changed dramatically with a lot of snow on the bigger mountains e.g. Helvellyn, Blencathra, Skiddaw and down to valley level around Keswick, although the roads are clear, and we've had blue skies and stunning mountain views this week. The road you initially turned onto in Ambleside - the narrow one that you turned back on - is 'The Struggle'. It is extremely steep in places and partly singe track. As you get up it and onto Kirkstone Pass the scenery is spectacular. Kirkstone Pass itself was closed for several days after the snow. A good option from Ambleside would have been to head down Great Langdale, or to have continued onto Grasmere and Keswick. .
Sad to hear about the walker who died on Blencathra the other day. I've been up most of the Lake District mountains apart from Skiddaw & weirdly the tallest Scafell Pike. I worked for the Field Studies Council in Betws y Coed in North Wales and one of the tutors went to work at Blencathra field centre. Nice pub in Threlkeld too although most pubs are nice in the lakes.
I don't know if you have yet returned to Suffolk but if you are still in the Lake District then you ought to try Hardknott Pass - but NOT if the weather is cold/snowy/icy etc since the road is one of the steepest in the UK. There is a wonderfully sited Roman fort guarding the pass which is worth a look at.
It's closed right now because of the snow. But it's a great suggestion for them to visit. I hope they did get out of the car on another day and get some walking in.
Glad you enjoyed your visit. If you get another chance to go there it's well worth avoiding the touristy parts and explore the quieter areas. Wastwater, with it's view of Scafell and also the biggest scree slopes alongside the lake is awesome. For added fun, try driving over Hardknot Pass or Wrynose. There's much more enjoy away from the major hotspots, taking in the quiet beauty of the fells.
Hiya Jess, Chris, Colette and Shane, "ambience" was the perfect word for this beautiful part of England my friends. Your guided tours bring nothing but joy and happiness to so many .😊. So happy that you were able to experience the lake District. Hope you are all well and wishing you a great Sunday. xx ❤️
Stephen, Happy Sunday! We're so glad you enjoyed the adventure with us. It was so special to finally make it to the Lake District. We are so glad you enjoyed the time you spend with us exploring. 🤍 Jess, Chris, and Kiddos x
Next time you are up in the Lakes go stay in one of the family cabins/lodges at Pooley Bridge and go for some walks around Grasmere...I love the lakes...Windermere if you had turned left at the Nat West Bank would of taken you down the hill to the lake ...loads of parking but it does get very busy down there...Great driving Chris 👍
I didn't hear it in the video. The main reason for the Braithwaite Bridge House was to sell apples, and that houses were taxed on the land they were on, so with the house being built over the beck, there was no tax. Because technically, it's not built on land but on a water course.
This video brings back so many memories for me. When I was 19 years old, my employers at the time (Barclays Bank) sent me on some kind of personal development course at Brathay Hall, just outside Ambleside. The course involved very strenuous physical activities (eg trekking, rock climbing, sailing, rowing, survival skills etc) and I was there for a whole month during September 1975. It was an amazing experience and it started my love affair with the Lakes. Thanks for another great video guys.
a little trick for toilets while in the lakes, park on a pubs carpark go have a coke or beer in there just needs to be one then go for your walk cos then you are still a patron of the pub ;) and the toilets will be cleaner
When you turned right at the Bridge House at Ambleside onto that tiny narrow road, I was shouting No! No! As there is parking a little further along. The road you found yourself on, is called The Struggle further up and takes you up to the Kirkstone Pass, the highest in Cumbria. There is a pub at the summit. The pass itself links the valleys of Troutbeck & Windermere with Ullswater. If you had gone straight on instead, that road, the A591, will take you through Rydal, Grasmere, home to William Wordsworth, over Dunmail Raise, burial site of the last king of Cumbria, through some of the best scenary in the lakes to the market town of Keswick, which is well worth a visit. Ultimately it goes to Carlisle, the only city in Cumbria and the boards of Scotland. Incidently, The mountains of the Lake District are a continuation of the Appalachian Mountains in the US.
Thank you so much for the insight and recommendations. We will be planning another trip to the Lake District, and we will definitely check them out. We really appreciate your time sharing and watching our adventure. 🤍 Jess x
This place is incredible. I once lived in the dales, a town called Richmond and went all over Yorkshire including the Lake District. Took my breath away. Good driving Chris.
Love it. We loved our time in the Lake District. We're excited about the trip I'm working on to the Dales. Chris is a fantastic driver. I tell him all the time and I appreciate you noticing/ saying. 🤍 Jess x
Oh that was all very moody, but the Lakes in any weather are beautiful, a shame you just missed the snow by a couple of days. Glad you got there when it wasn't rammed with tourists. Great driving as others have commented. Lovely drone 360 too. Your enthusiasm is always so infectious :)
We wish we would have been able to see the Lake District in the snow. I would have loved that. Unfortunately, I know I would have been nervous on unknown roads for me. I truly appreciate the time we went with fewer tourists! We really enjoyed our time and look forward to returning. 🤍 Jess x
we call it 'the lakes', you should walk up the old man of coniston if you ever get a chance, takes about an hour up and similar down, best views for the walk when you get to the top.
Thanks for this you two, it looks lovely. Never been to the lake district, you Americans are getting to see places that us brits havent, even though we live hear !!
@DaydreamersBarn You make the most of it jess, have you got a date yet when you have to leave. It will be sad to see you chris and family leave. i hope England will always have a place in your heart X
The Lake District is so beautiful ❤ I'm glad I was watching you drive because I couldn't down those narrow roads. Your driving skills are to be admired 👏 great drone footage xxx thanks for sharing another great video 🎉
We're so thankful you enjoyed the adventure with us through the Lake District, friend! Chris is a fantastic driver, and he loves getting the drone footage to share. We appreciate all you love and time you spent with us. 🤍 Jess x
Although it’s called the Lake District its really about the landscape, the Fells, the dramatic views, farms, drystone walls & stone built houses, walks, climbing and hiking, if you’d gone to the northern & western part it’s much more rugged and dramatic with stunning views on clear days, you would have liked the magnificent views along the Hardknott Pass.
@DaydreamersBarn I don’t know if you’ve seen the Ordnance Survey range of maps, fantastic detail, I still have a paper fold out touring map for the Lake District approx 1 inch to 1mile.
Some amazing walking up the mountains close to Ullswater. Had a weeks holiday in the Lakes every year since 1996 and it never gets boring, just more tiring as I get older ! Personally I find Windermere and Ambleside are touristy now so was pleased to see you drive straight on past.
We can't wait to return and get out and explore the lake district more. We love taking the roads less traveled. It's always a win for us to miss the tourist destinations. 🤍 Jess x
Very nice. I haven't been up that way for about 25 years and never in winter, it looks so different to summer or when the trees are changing colour in autumn. I would say Grasmere is my favourite area. It was the only time we ever stayed in a 4 star hotel as a long weekend treat, one of those places where dinner is piled upwards rather than sidewards ;) Probably a bit wasted on me as I'm more of a fish, chips and mushy peas person. Thanks again for taking us along on another great tour.
I am so glad you got here to see our Lake District ! You actually came at one of the best times of year because in summer those roads are often a solid traffic jam, but you got to drive them when it's mostly just us locals. I'll see if I can fish out your microphone with a magnet ! All the best, Peter in West Cumbria. ( Edit: Windermere is a bit of a tourist trap, sorry about the parking and toilet charges ).
We are glad we made it too. Also, we agree it is a better time of year without so many people around. If you fish it out, let us know. Might not work but at least it would go with a good story. Cheers, Chris
Your never ending enthusiasm is infectious and wonderful. As you know in the UK you have to be ready to deal with every kind of weather!🌧⛈️❄️☀️🌪😅. Enjoy the rest of your travels ❤. Come and visit the Yorkshire Dales sometime. Malham Cove and the Ribblehead viaduct are amazing along with the 3 Peaks and Aysgarth Falls.
Sunday today just come back from the district. Windermere there was snow on the mountains this afternoon. It was beautiful but it always looks miserable in winter.
May I suggest, while you are in the Lake District, that you investigate the Herdwick breed of sheep. This breed is almost exclusively bred in the Lakes and is extraordinarily hardy, living for most of the year in the high fells regardless of the weather conditions.
Aw, your legacy remains with us. Your microphone is forever British! Have visited the Lake District my entire life. Have photos of me as a 5 year old picnicking in that £5 car park when it was still free! I love that you were excited even in overcast weather and I always say that if it didn't rain there wouldn't be any lakes. Also, the shops are so geared up towards selling outdoor walking clothing etc as people mainly come to explore the fells and walk round the lakes. When you were drving I was actually saying, 'No, turn down, don;t go ahead, you need to see the view' and Chris did exactly that - it was uncanny. We have spent time in the Lakes in all seasons and have had some wonderful Christmas stays there in the snow. Christmas 2009/2010 I think you could actually walk on the lake nearly the shoreline as they were frozen solid. When we travel back to our home in Yorkshire from Scotland where our family are from, we always get to just near Carlisle on the motorway and say' shall we go back via the Lakes?' - it takes longer but it's glorious. Aw, why do you have to go back? I love these videos. My elderly mother is now partially sighted but I have described your channel and she will ask' where have they gone this week' and it's always somewhere she knows and can remember in her mind's eye. A million thanks xxx
It will just have to be there from now on. It must be crazy to look back and see the changes from the price to part to all the changes in the landscape and the villages too. Glad you are enjoying the videos. That is amazing to know that we are able to even bring back memories for your mother, you are very kind to share and help her. Cheers, Chris
Nice little video, hopefully you stayed longer and woke up to a snowy Lake District, especially in the north, on Sunday morning. We live over the fells from Windermere. Closer to Ullswater it's been blue skies and snow, I hope you got to see the area like that. Although your grey wet weather is more typical.
Have you visitied the amazing neolithic sites we have in the UK? For example, have you ever looked at amazing stone circles such as Castlerigg in the lake district? The Avebury henge and stone circle in Wiltshire is so big that there is a village inside it. Also, Hay on Wye book town in North Wales which has more book shops per capita than almost anywhere else.
Takes me back to my childhood and my youth the amount of time we Hiked Camped went fell running rowing and canoeing on many of the Lakes nature as it is ment to be i am 55yrs old so back then none of this high tech stuff we have today Beautiful video as always plus it reminds me of Home i live in Lancashire
@DaydreamersBarn i have been to a lot of the places you have been to and many more the thing what i like the best about your visits you are seeing them with baby eyes where everything is new
Love watching the USAF and RAF chasing each other around the hills and lakes at low level....theres viewing points on the hills where you can be at the same level as them or above them and you can virtually see the pilots name on the sides of the jets...
A beautiful area, did you go over Hardknott Pass? It has some beautiful views of the countryside and you can also stop at the ruins of a Roman fort. An elderly neighbour was born and lived in the Lake District until she got married. She will often talk fondly of living there even though it was a hard life walking a couple of miles to school in all weathers, having no local amenities, and no indoor toilet in their cottage. What they did have though was a beautiful outside natural playground.
I think Hardknott and Wrynose are closed with ice at the moment? And would be pretty scary in these conditions regardless! You could see from their route how short of time they were, so I think that would be a trip for the lighter nights given what a big round trip it is?
We did not make it this time. However, it is something that we have done some serious discussion on....I hope we are able to make it there. Cheers, Chris
The RAF and USAF drop down real low over the lake quite frequently some days. The Wateredge Inn is a good spot to have your camera at the ready, with a beer of course.
@DaydreamersBarn You're right about the East side of the lake being extremely busy at times. I head out on the ferry (at Storrs) to the west side, where its relatively quiet. Lots of mountain bike routes and walks to explore. Coniston, Grizedale forest, Langdale. If Chris is feeling confident on the single track roads. Try the Hardknot pass (Roman Fort) over to boot, beware though and go early before anybody else gets up :)
Yay, you made it! I don't know how long you were up there for, but you will have the most amazing time....pity the fog was out, as the skyline is breathtakingly stunning, but hoping it clears for you. By the way, all hills and mountains in the Lakes, are called Fells by the locals. As of 2026, Windermere will be my family home, and the family are so excited about the move. I hope it lives up to the expectations I've been painting over the last year?!
Oh, I can't wait to see what y'all do! We loved the Lake District and are already planning our next trip. I love seeing your channel grow. You all are just so amazing! I love see all the wonderful things you all are doing. 🤍 Jess x
You started to head for the Kirkstone Pass, I don’t know how you didn’t get there, as you were on the right road. You missed a treat, maybe the next time
I know you are sadly entering the closing stages of your UK stay . I should perhaps have mentioned this some time ago as a suggestion but before you leave I would strongly recommend the Haworth 1940s Weekend in West Yorkshire . I personally haven't attended for many years as I no longer live in UK but it was a hugely entertaining and interesting event and the village itself is stunning. The 2025 dates are May 16-18 . If you plan to stay overnight to experience the Saturday and Sunday fun you will need to book accommodation in Bradford or other nearby towns as Haworth itself is booked up a year in advance by regulars. I also understand - though I cannot be sure - that it is now much busier than it was in the " old days " . I also understand that German uniforms and militaria are now prohibited but cannot be certain of this . There is car parking in the railway station if you arrive early and there are steam trains running throughout the day . As a side visit the National Science and Media museum in Bradford is amazing with millions of artefacts and interactive items on display. Your kids would also enjoy both experiences.
The Lake District is a very special place, and I've had some fabulous times there. Ambleside was my 'go-to' place for walking gear and outdoor wear. I noticed Gaynor Sports which is a brilliant store, and I still have my Reikle walking boots I bought there c20 years ago. I recommend you spend a week there in the Spring (May) and take the time to go on many of the walks and visit the various pubs and amazing attractions/museums including Beatrix Potter, and my favourite, The John Ruskin Museum overlooking Coniston Water.
We can see why it is a very special place to you. It is a place you need plenty of time to see all of it. However, we will see as much as we can with whatever time we can devote to it. Cheers, Chris
I've recently stumbled across your channel and its therapeutic and so refreshing seeing an outsiders perspective on things we take "for granted" check Bolsover Town and Bolsover Castle out it's a lovely village in Derbyshire!
Friend, we're so glad you stumble onto our channel. We love getting out and exploring because life is to short. We appreciate this wonderful opportunity to love and learn from this beautiful country. 🤍 Jess x
Little tip about driving on single lane rural roads. Drive as fast as you safely can with the visibility you have. Obviously slow down at blind corners. The less time you spend on the single lane road, the less chance of meeting a vehicle or tractor coming in the opposite direction. Those stupid pheasants will jump out of a hedgerow into the road in front of you without any warning. If you do meet someone head one, don't panic, just take a moment to figure out who is going to reverse. You will have to give tractors right of way.
Yeah, a car can usually come to a stop in three seconds or less. If I can see the road is clear three seconds ahead, then I am safe. However, on these single-track roads, because someone is approaching you head-on at roughly the same speed and with the same stopping distance, you need to see the road is clear six seconds ahead.
Well I know every one of the roads you drove down, pretty well! Including my wife and I cycling down a good stretch of them the summer after the pandemic lockdowns. Must have driven Windermere to Ambleside nearly a hundred times in my life, I guess? If you did that trip in a single day, from where you live, that is quite amazing! Shame you did not have better weather and more daylight. You could not see much of the mountains - SO much like so many times we have been in the Lakes, especially out of season! Although it meant at least you could park, and not absolute crazy bedlam like it is in much of the year. You even managed to park in Near Sawrey - usually just impossible! As is getting into Hill Top - we've never yet managed it, and it is always shut for nearly half the year anyway, as you found. Ambleside is gridlock in summer, and the driving is just so stressful. So at least, as you indicated in the video, you managed to avoid all that! Shame you didn't have more daylight, as at Colthouse you were less than half a mile from Hawkshead - a so-pretty village to walk round and have a cuppa. And only a couple of miles from Tarn Hows, one of the most beautiful and scenic spots in all Britain. Although maybe less so with the cloud down. And well done driving down those very narrow roads the west side of Windermere! My wife calls roads like that "Adey Routes", because I always find roads about 2 inches wider than the car. Although a PROPER Adey route also has grass all down the middle... Hope you get a chance to spend a bit more time in the Lakes before you go. SO much more to see! Maybe see the mountains proper and go over the passes, and see a few more lakes and in better weather! It must be a bit frustrating, like for me when I worked in New Zealand - so much to see, so far to go and and so little time left to see it! Thanks so much for that video. We've not been up the Lakes since March '23, and - as always - it was just like being there. And brought back a rush of memories.
Adrian, It was such a lovely experience. We both said we would be back to the Lake District to explore even more to do some hiking. We're excited that we made it, and the kids enjoyed riding along with.. We hope you all get back up there this year, maybe? We like it when it's less crowded. I'm sure summer cycling was so lovely! 🫶 We're just so the we to the time to get get out and see something so incredibly beautiful. This beautiful island has so much to offer it's just so prolific and magical! We appreciate your love and kindness! We love sharing our fun adventures and bringing back special memories for you all. 🤍 Jess & Chris x
Brings back fond memories of the photographic workshop holidays I spent there at the now defunct lakeland Photographic Holidays. Chris is so confident driving our single track roads I fear he may get agoraphobia when he goes back to driving in the USA.
Hi jess.and Chris! Hope you enjoyed.your drive to the lakes, did you take note of the dialect of the locals neither Yorkshire nor Lancashire ? my gran Sarah was born i Barrow in furness and retained her accent , you might have noticed PLENTY of rain hope you packed your waterproofs ? All the best John
Love the Lake District, especially Keswick and surrounding areas, I grew up camping and climbing there. A lot of the slate used for building in the Lake District comes from the Honister slate mine, which is a few miles from Keswick, the Romans even used slate from there. Great video 🤘👍...
Oh, we love a good day on lake Michigan! Definitely recommend it if you haven't experienced it. We loved our time in the lake district and will be back! 🤍 Jess x
You've just been to my favourite place in the world, the only downside being the cost of patking. At least its not full of tourists like it is in August!
Ah, you both finally made it to my part of the World. We get around 18 million visitors per year here! As you've probably noticed Jess, the narrow country road were never made for the amount of traffic they have today, but everyone gets by with care.... If the weather had been gloriously sunny Jess, Chris would have been stopping every 30 seconds on those narrow roads, for other cars to pass safely....
I've hiked up a couple of Fells from Lake Buttermere. A Fell is just short of an official mountain designation. I've never hiked anything so steep before in my life. Not mountain climbing, not hiking, something in between. I think they call it scrambling. I got lucky and saw a pair of RAF Typhoon fighter jets and a USAAF F-15 fly low through the valley. The lesser visited Ennerdale Water is where Bill Clinton proposed marriage to Hilary Clinton. Another great place to visit in Cumbria is Fleswick Bay. The rocks on the shore show sand ripples that are 100+ million years old.
Thanks for the info on Fell. We will try to use that as appropriate. That must have been a blast to check out and see the aircrafts flying by. Cheers, Chris
Chris’s driving etiquette is perfect 👌🏼we salute you Chris 🫡 love from Cheshire uk 🇬🇧
Thank you
Cheers, Chris
Jess, your enthusiasm for our country is infectious. You see the beauty in everything 😊
Oh, thank you love! I feel life is to short so I always look at the beauty in all things. I have truly fallen in love with the UK! It will be a big part of my heart forever and always. 🤍 Jess x
I’ve said this before….shout out to Chris and his driving. He drives like a native Brit
He drives better than the average Brit! LOL
Yeah. I've driven a lot of these same roads. You've definitely got to have your wits about you.
I was thinking the same thing, great driving
Well big thanks for that. I do my best, glad it is showing. Cheers, Chris
Ooops ! yeah you should have turned left near the Bus/Railway station & headed down the road to Bowness ( on - Windermere ) where they start the pleasure boat tours & there are loads of shopping opportunities & the cable ferry that takes you across the lake !...We were there last July for a week & your USAF frequent the lake nearly everyday in the summer flying their F15 Strike Eagles at very low level. You should visit in the summer when the weather is a bit more favourable !
Plus the Typhoons...
Far too busy down there in the summer although the Hole in th' wall pub is worth a visit.
@@antonycharnock2993 I go there every time we visit Bowness as a matter of course !👍👍
It does sound like it would be amazing in the summer time too. However, we try to get to see as much as we can, regardless of the season. Cheers, Chris
@DaydreamersBarn We don't do so bad for a little set of rocks across the pond & we could fit inside the state of Alaska just over seven time do we ?
Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed the video. We try our best to make sure the weather does not stop us. Cheers, Chris
You deserve so many more subscribers for making your enthusiastic original content, it brightens up my day.
Well we do appreciate your kind words, but honestly we are extremely humbled and thankful for all the ones we have. Cheers, Chris
We are glad you enjoyed the video. It seems like a place that keeps you looking for more in every season. Cheers, Chris
I'm from Suffolk but I love the Lake District and stay in either Ambleside or Keswick, both of which are great! So happy you got there and love your enthusiasm as always!
Thank you love! We really are planning our next adventure to the Lake District. 🤍 Jess x
Those all sound like great recommendations. Cheers, Chris
The Lake District never disappoints regardless of what season it is. I have been several times.
Yes it's got something to offer every season. Definitely worth visiting multiples times through the seasons!
I agree it was so amazing! We loved our time and can't wait to go back. 🤍 Jess x
Thanks
We're so thankful you enjoyed the video. Thank you for the Super Thanks! 🤍 Jess x
I love that you are enjoying our country. Not without faults but you cannot deny, that away from modern towns, it is charming with an olde world feel. At least you avoided the snow.
Friend, we agree with you! We are so thankful for getting to learn and explore with you all. 🤍 Jess x
Dear Jess & Chris
I just wanted to thank you, as so many others have, for this wonderfully detailed overview of the Lake District.
The ferry across Windemere, from Bowness to Ambleside is a treat.....
Sounds like a fun one.
Well done, love your enthusiasm. xx
Thanks, we're definitely going to return and see more. We appreciate your time sharing with us! 🤍 Jess x
It does sound like it has changed a bit since we were there. That is no good to hear about the walker. Cheers, Chris
We are going to do our best to get back to that Pass. It is something I am looking forward to for sure. Cheers, Chris
Thanks for the tips. We do plan on making it back and hitting at least one of those things. Cheers, Chris
In the summer the lakes are home to sailing, kayaking, canoeing and all sorts of water activities which anyone can join in
Sounds like a blast. Cheers, Chris
Hiya Jess, Chris, Colette and Shane, "ambience" was the perfect word for this beautiful part of England my friends. Your guided tours bring nothing but joy and happiness to so many .😊. So happy that you were able to experience the lake District.
Hope you are all well and wishing you a great Sunday. xx ❤️
Stephen,
Happy Sunday! We're so glad you enjoyed the adventure with us. It was so special to finally make it to the Lake District. We are so glad you enjoyed the time you spend with us exploring. 🤍 Jess, Chris, and Kiddos x
thats the southern lakes done...the best stuff is in the north lakes though really. But great video, really enjoyed watching
Maybe we will be able to make another return trip. Cheers, Chris
Many hours spent early morning Water Ski-ing on Windermere from Low Wood Hotel, behind mates Matstercaft.
Fantastic, recommendation friend! I'm planning our next trip. 🤍 Jess x
I didn't hear it in the video. The main reason for the Braithwaite Bridge House was to sell apples, and that houses were taxed on the land they were on, so with the house being built over the beck, there was no tax. Because technically, it's not built on land but on a water course.
We didn't talk about it, but I did share a little history about the bridge house. I appreciate you sharing it with us. 🤍 Jess x
Climbed and camped in the Lake District many times and now live at the Southern most point of the Lake District with a distant view of the mountains.
That must be quite the view. Cheers, Chris
That sounds like a good reason to start a love affair with the Lakes. I grew up around the lakes in Michigan, so I understand. Cheers, Chris
a little trick for toilets while in the lakes, park on a pubs carpark go have a coke or beer in there just needs to be one then go for your walk cos then you are still a patron of the pub ;) and the toilets will be cleaner
💯 next time that will be a must do for us. Thank yoi for sharing with us friend 🤍 Jess x
Hi Jess,on your future lake district hike, will you be attempting the famous striding edge 😮
We would definitely love to attend it. Definitely will look into that. 🤍 Jess x
Best off visiting there in January in summer it’s hell 😊 get over the hard knot x ❤
It was a great time for us for sure. Cheers, Chris
Thanks for this you two, it looks lovely. Never been to the lake district, you Americans are getting to see places that us brits havent, even though we live hear !!
Friend we're so thrilled you get to come along with us. We love getting out and see what this beautiful island has to offer. 🤍 Jess c
@DaydreamersBarn You make the most of it jess, have you got a date yet when you have to leave. It will be sad to see you chris and family leave. i hope England will always have a place in your heart X
Probably all covered in snow at the moment.
Good chance. Cheers, Chris
We have heard a lot about that area and we do want to make a trip that way. The way you describe it makes it that much more tempting. Cheers, Chris
Glad we could take you up, especially since you haven't been there in the winter. I do enjoy some fish and chips with mushy peas too. Cheers, Chris
Ooooh! The Lake District
The Lake District is so beautiful! We can't wait to return to visit and get out and hike next time. 🤍 Jess x
@DaydreamersBarn I'll let you in on some great spots for next time. Rydal Cave and Elterwater. But the parking lots fill up early.
The weather does keep you on your toes here. We look forward to making it to Yorkshire Dales soon. Cheers, Chris
Hi Guys! Don't think of it as losing a microphone, think of it rather as an opportunity to make an upgrade. Bye!
Kinda how I try to look at things like that. Cheers, Chris
Sunday today just come back from the district. Windermere there was snow on the mountains this afternoon. It was beautiful but it always looks miserable in winter.
I'm sure it's so beautiful in the snow! We appreciate you sharing about the snow. 🤍 Jess x
Hi family , some stunning scenery guys thankyou for letting us tag along , another place to add to my list 😊❤
Our pleasure! Cheers, Chris
If you havn't been to lancaster yet it been a good place to visit,i reccomend driving through the forest of bowland to get to it🇬🇧🇺🇲👍
Sounds like a great suggestion. Cheers. Chris
I live in Lincolnshire now but spent most my life in Devon you should visit Devon and Cornwall for the beautiful coasts and scenery
Devon and Cornwall is the best part of the country and a better climate. The Lake District is bleak like all of the North, its grim.
Hopefully we can make it back to Cornwall and check that out. Cheers, Chris
Lovely video again, you must visit FELBRIG HALL TUDIR BUILT or cromer before you go home x.
Thank you for sharing the recommendation! 🤍 Jess x
May I suggest, while you are in the Lake District, that you investigate the Herdwick breed of sheep. This breed is almost exclusively bred in the Lakes and is extraordinarily hardy, living for most of the year in the high fells regardless of the weather conditions.
They sound like an impressive bred. Cheers, Chris
We had our honey moon in the low wood hotel 25 years ago ( the white hotel at about 4 mins where you first saw the lake)
Oh, how wonderful! I'm sure it was a lovely honey moon my friend. 🤍 Jess x
We made it out before it hit, but we will be back. I am sure it was beautiful with the fresh snow. Cheers, Chris
Glad you didnt encounter much traffic going the opposite way to you...........wouldnt want to reverse back much...Enjoy the days out
Friend it was a wonderful experience. It was a little crazy backing up.. Haha
🤍 Jess x
Glad you enjoyed the trip😅@DaydreamersBarn
Very beautiful video of a very beautiful lake District. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers, Chris
We have visited a few, but hopefully we can see some more. Also, nice claim to fame for the book shops per capita. Cheers, Chris
You cant possibly want to go back to America now! Once you've seen the lake district you're as good as Brits 😊
Love it 🤍 Jess x
Takes me back to my childhood and my youth the amount of time we Hiked Camped went fell running rowing and canoeing on many of the Lakes nature as it is ment to be i am 55yrs old so back then none of this high tech stuff we have today Beautiful video as always plus it reminds me of Home i live in Lancashire
Glad we could take you back. It was a great visit. Cheers, Chris
@DaydreamersBarn i have been to a lot of the places you have been to and many more the thing what i like the best about your visits you are seeing them with baby eyes
where everything is new
We used stone for the local area to build our housed because ut was readily available and last longer than wood
That makes a lot of sense for sure. Cheers, Chris
Love watching the USAF and RAF chasing each other around the hills and lakes at low level....theres viewing points on the hills where you can be at the same level as them or above them and you can virtually see the pilots name on the sides of the jets...
We're definitely going to check that out! Thank you friend 🤍 Jess x
You should go to Keswick and drive to honister slate mine and beyond, the roads and scenery are outstanding.
Thank for the recommendation. Appreciate your time. 🤍 Jess x
The RAF and USAF drop down real low over the lake quite frequently some days. The Wateredge Inn is a good spot to have your camera at the ready, with a beer of course.
Wonderful recommendation! Both Chris and I said, OH YES! 🤍 Jess x
We're definitely going back and exploring more. It was a lovely time even with the fog. We appreciate you coming along with us. 🤍 Jess x
ooh this one was a treat! We're just starting our research for a Lake District visit :)
You missed a treat, maybe the next time
That was not where we were heading. We will try to explore that pass on our next adventure. 🤍 Jess x
Thanks for the recommendation. It sounds like it is amazing to check out. We will look into that and see if we can check it out. Cheers, Chris
Can you imagine the lakes in the summer
It must be amazing. Cheers, Chris
Totally missed the best towns by not turning left twice at the beginning of the vlog. Windermere and Bowness 😮
Well, I appreciate the insight. 🤍 Jess x
@DaydreamersBarn Cheers Chris! 👍😊
We were in same car park in July
Lovely, I'm sure it was so packed. 🤍 Jess x
The lakes can look like January anytime of the year but the place is stunning if I could live there I would just one hurdle in the way
We had such a wonderful time. It was so magical and we all loved it. 🤍 Jess x
🤍 Jess x
A couple of days after this, we had heavy snow and subzero temperatures for days.
We heard about that. Hopefully it wasn't too bad. Cheers, Chris
Thanks for the advice. It makes sense the less time there the better. Cheers, Chris
You guys! You get around!! 🚗👏👏👏
Always we only live once. We love getting out and exploring. 🤍 Jess x
Adrian,
It was such a lovely experience.
Ha! Doubt I will get that, but who knows. Glad we could bring back some fond memories. Cheers, Chris
It is interesting the different dialect for sure. We try not to leave home without our waterproofs if we are able. Cheers, Chris
What animals will you keep on your 30 acres?
I would have all of them, but Chris will limit me. LoL
Sheep, cows, pigs, pony & chickens. 😏
🤍 Jess x
Great Vlog . You should take a drive along the Kirkstone Pass and the Rye Nose pass
Maybe we can make another trip that way. Cheers, Chris
I slept in my car in that carpark a few years ago. Didn't pay a penny as I left before the warden turned up. Good times :D
Haha, nice fun memory. 🤍 Jess x
Wow, so funny watching you miss both turns to Windermere. The village is nice but Bowness on Windermere is just full of tourists.
Thanks for the comment. Cheers, Chris
It’s lovely in the Lake District, bit nicer in the summer but hey 😊
I am sure it is, but we enjoyed it with less people. Cheers, Chris
Love the Lake District, especially Keswick and surrounding areas, I grew up camping and climbing there. A lot of the slate used for building in the Lake District comes from the Honister slate mine, which is a few miles from Keswick, the Romans even used slate from there. Great video 🤘👍...
Glad you enjoyed the video and we can see why you love the lake district. Cheers, Chris
Hi Love thew LD but Windermere is the lake ,and the town you drove through was Bowness
Thanks for the comment. Cheers, Chris
We don’t do lakes like USA / Canada does, but we got lucky and ended up with some very pretty ones!
Very nice drive!
Oh, goodie! It was so amazing we loved it so and can't wait to return. We like it when it's not crowded. 🤍 Jess x
You definitely loved the lakes,it told in your voice
We do for sure. Cheers, Chris
Nice to see you in my county of Yorkshire,Jess couldn’t stop laughing 😄
Yep Prices are expensive ! they were so cheap In the 60s ,
I can only imagine. Cheers, Chris
Try to get up to Durham ,very compact Beamish Open Air Museum is close by Also Washington village former home of the Washington family pre USA
Thanks for the recommendation. Cheers, Chris
Yes, we finally made it. I think we made it at the right time. Cheers, Chris
Jess I loved the sheep’s ewe.
Indeed. Cheers, Chris
I prefer using the loos in pubs and tea rooms.
That does make sense. Cheers, Chris
If it's anything like here today in the Peak District, the lakes are probably under a few feet of snow today!
From what we heard from a friend of my wife's who is currently on holiday in the Lakes, they avoided most of what we in the Peak and Pennines had!
We could do with some snow. I imagine it is beautiful. Cheers, Chris
best time to go not full of tourists you can get time to explore and enjoy
I agree it was an amazing time to go and exploring the lake district! 🤍 Jess x
@DaydreamersBarn To visit Fleswick Bay, you park at St Bees Parking. It's in a courtyard of a farm and is an honesty box payment.
Lake district is the nicest place in england
We loved our time and working on a plan to return. 🤍 Jess x
@DaydreamersBarn maybe next time come in the summer when its potentially nice weather.. also hiring a boat for windermere is pretty fun
Beautiful area
It really is. Cheers, Chris
Imagine this under 2foot of snow!!
We could be ok with that. Cheers, Chris
