Yep! As excited as I was to meet him at an autograph signing on my 10th birthday, I'm glad I was less aware at that age of his attitude. He was prone to his moments then too, but I think it became more noticeable and known as his career advanced. He was cool and fun to meet though. He even hoisted a picture I drew of him, for him, like it was a trophy, and showed it to the room and complimented it.
Pancakes and Hammers I could draw pretty well for a 10-year-old, far better than I can draw now at least. I doubt Roy would be as impressed now if we tried the same scenario over once again.
I remember Kevin Lowe saying first round for Oilers against the Canucks didn't feel like the playoffs at all. That when it was over heading into the dressing room there wasn't that feeling a team has in the playoffs. It was too easy and that may have impacted the Calgary series.
I wonder if the same people who anonymously threatened Bossy's life as he approached Rocket's 50 in 50 resurfaced as he readied to break Richard's playoff goals record...
I began reading a great book written a year after this: "Boss" by Mike Bossy. As excellent a hockey player as Bossy was, if it's a ghostwriter-free autobiography he's no slouch as a writer either. Edit: some judge a book by its cover. Others (me) jump right into the pages and Bossy's use of the word "autobiography" within the first few and never look back. As it turns out he had an Islanders columnist working on it with him.
I remember 1st seeing Patrick Roy with the Habs farm team in Sherbrooke, Québec ( my hometown ). They had John Kordic & Stephane Richer ( top goal scorer ) there also...Montréal really missed Roy after sending him to Colorado...bad decision at the time...if only Roy had played all his career in Montréal...OMG !!!
Patrick Roy stole the Stanley Cup away from the Calgary Flames that season. Revenge came in 1989 though. Game 7 against the Edmonton Oilers started off with Steve 'Shoot' Smith in Calgary. The collapse in game 6 against St. Louis and lost in overtime was a tough pill to swallow as game 7 was a hard fought 2-1 win to clinch the conference.
I'm so curious how the Oilers would have handled them. I'm also curious how the Flames would have handled any of the Finals opponents the Oilers had (Islanders, Flyers, Bruins).
This was the first cup for Montreal I actually watched so it is pretty special. Yes people will say that they stole the cup in 86 and 93. While I do believe in getting lucky, I can’t agree when people say stealing the cup. This is what playing in a playoff means. Maybe the detractors would want the cup handed to the first overall each year?? Nah. Playoffs are great because of those stories. Thoughness, resilience, talent, desire to win. Lack one of those and you can’t go all the way. That what makes hockey the best sport!!!
One of the greatest Canadiens of all-time, just behind Karl Alzner and Scott Gomez.
That is why people like you Alzner, you are a humble man XD
Thank you, Karl Alzner
Patrice Brisebois totally snubbed on your epic list, Alzner.
@@patch8376 Don't forget the man, the myth, the LEGEND... Ryan O'byrne !
Mike Bossy sets an unbeaten record with 9 consecutive 50-goals seasons.
The legend himself Patrick Roy making a big time impact.
Patrick Roy. Great goaltender with the attitude of a toddler. I think he threw as many temper tantrums on ice as he had shut outs in his career.
Hahaha! So true!

Monday night miracle was a legend for blues fans.
Man, the habs have been awesome!
I still recall hearing the Habs' fans chanting EAR-WAH, EAR-WAH, EAR-WAH, and wondering what it meant.
This is my birth year!
The best postseason the Blues have ever had thus far...
Lindbergh actually played in the 85 - 86 season, pelle Lindbergh died in the car crash in November 85.
Pelle Lindberghs last game was November 7th 1985. What could have been that season for the flyers!
Sean Thompson a cup
@@philadelphia3790 , more like 2 cups, 86 and 87
i can't hear you, there are 2 stanley cup rings in my ears
LastOfUsClips Patrick Roy had 2 rings with Montreal and 2 more in Colorado
Adam Scott patrick said his 'famous' quotation when he had 2 rings
I wonder where he stuck his other two...
Paul Coffey sets new record for goals by a defensemen. One point less than Orr.

This is where numbers fall short of player assessment.
love these vidoes about the 1980's

Great year. My first Habs Stanley!
I remember this season very well-The beginning of Patrick Roy...I think there is a math error in Joe Murphy's stats 223+295=518.
What a mess Murphy became
I wonder if the same people who anonymously threatened Bossy's life as he approached Rocket's 50 in 50 resurfaced as he readied to break Richard's playoff goals record...
That was a great season! Roy was the crown jewel but 9 rookies also. Must be a rookie. The Cup came out of nowhere.
Roy was the best money goalie ive seen, without him Montreal doesn't win their last 2 cups.
Hello dude I’m back nice video definitely helping me with the sport thanks, Because I Live in the UK can u do a History Of Dundee Stars ?

I enjoy these videos soo much, and I'm really looking forward to when San Jose gets on the board. The only team in my eyes in the nhl.

Tim Kerr sets a record of 34 PPG!

Any chance of a video looking back at the famous Monday Night Miracle for the Blues against the Flames
And you didn't mention Gretzky's assist- and pointrecord that will never be broken...😉

Another 1st overall ends up in St Louis.
Sad to see about Joe Murphy. I really hope him all the best in his life
Hartford had Whaler Mania that spring. Had it not been for Claude Lemieux's goal .Many sensed Hartford could have gone all the way.

Great season!
Boris Becker Marques yes regular season was great, not playoff...
@@SverigeiSverige I do enjoy sweeps haha
Boris Becker Marques enjoy lot of goals, like -85... 😉
@@SverigeiSverige i stopped to watch this series on the 60's season. For some reason I jumped to the 86'. Anyway.
Oilers would have been against Montreal if our guy didn’t mess up 🤦♂️ 🤦♂️
