Happy Birthday Anton! Thank you for always doing the amazing job that you do! Well explained without overdoing it, in a very nice format, never a hint of bias, and admit when something isn’t confirmed yet. It’s so refreshing to be able to have an Anton video on and knowing that you’re never at risk of getting fake news or facts, which is beyond refreshing in our world today. You are a gem in the rough Anton, hope you enjoy your birthday you legend!
Happy birthday brother, you are a star seed child, your ability to comprehend and have a strict standard to what constitutes a fact is rare and incredible
Happy birthday! Finding out you share a birthday with your idols is quite a treat indeed! Like when I was at a concert on my golden birthday _(where your age = the day),_ and the opening act turned out to be a new side band by the lead singer of _another_ favorite band of my friends' and I _(Maynard Keenan of A Perfect Circle, and Tool)._ *But then* the main act _(NIN)_ asked us all to wish Maynard a happy birthday because his was also that day. My two friends and I ask looked at each other like 😮🤯 🤣
Warmest wishes on your birthday, Anton. May the coming year bring your good health and happiness. Thanks for all the work you put into producing your outstanding videos
Happy birth day Anton!!! You make my every day on this planet better, no matter how much im suffering due to my illness. I await every video, youre amazing, and you deserve the WORLD, you magnificent bastard! :D
It's been 20 years plus since this happened, so my memory may be adrift. However, I thought the initial conclusion was that the GRB was caused by a 'star quake' on the surface of the magnetar. I think the difference between XRB and GRB is such, that only a large object, like a satellite crashing into the magnetar would cause a GRB.
Wow, so it’s his birthday? How did you know? I’ll have to mark that in my calendar… January 15th. Edit: one website says his birthday is March 11, 1984 and the other website says January 1, 1984. Well, which is it? And can you link a source to the birthday info, plz? 😇
Well, whichever day it comes on, happy birthday, Anton! You have spread your love of science around this planet to the beytermentt of all of us! Keep reminding us of all the ways this universe can kill us! We could do with some humility!
I have magnetic Magnets maybe magnetars stuck on my refrigerator. Flash Gordon had a Gamma Ray gun. While Captain Video (& the video rangers) had a X-Ray gun, when I was a kid I had a cap gun.
I love that we share the same birthday month! Mine is the 17th. I just had a crazy dream that I was being taught how to jump galaxies, but it was a lot to take in and I was starting to get overwhelmed! I was a little too heavy to feel the particles to jump off of and I fell through but was caught by the person teaching me with a woven basket. I jumped again and this timed continued to fall. I went so incredibly fast the universe turned from a dark void with stars into a light brown color. Made me feel like a particle in an accelerator 😅
Boy did I ever misunderstand the title.... 🤣 I know it makes no sense, but I've learned to not question the crazy stuff we discover, so I didn't think anything of it when I thought it was *_the PLANET_* that was the Magnetar... 😅🤦♂️
From the title, I was under the assumption that there is a planet *ORBITING* around a magnetar, which is impressive and almost impossible because magnetars have the most powerful magnetic field in the universe as of now, powerful enough to disrupt space and time, and ripping apart atoms into spaghetti. For a planet orbiting a magnetar to be possible, it should be outside the magnetar's magnetic field.
@@Isaac-gh5ku Yes, the reality of what we discovered is indeed great, in a crazy and almost unreal way. Which again lends credence to what I said: "I've learned not to question the crazy stuff we discover" (by that I mean, even if it's absurd, I won't question its plausibility lol). So the title's wording leading some of us down a different path of understanding, isn't that surprising 😁
That will be just as well if and when Anton ever tells us that alien life has finally been discovered far away from Earth. Who else would we sooner believe?
Happy Birthday, Wonderful ANTON! 🎂 Basically, today is your special day, also known as birthday, and essentially, we're celebrating the brilliant star you are! 🌟 Wishing you a lot of joy, curiosity, and amazing adventures. 🚀
Happy birthday Anton , all this interesting and useful information which you gave so often.thank you and be best in things in which you wanna be best 👍🏻
Could Dr. Petrov or someone else explain the principle behind why such energy bursts maintain their energy over long distances? I seem to recall an explanation from someone as to why certain radiation from a nuclear explosion remains deadly at a long range, but I cannot remember what he said.
I could be wrong, and I'm mainly posting this as a way to subscribe to the thread for when someone provides the confirmed correct answer.... but *_I suspect_* it's because there's nothing in space to impede it besides dust/gas _(and the occasional celestial body/gravity well)._ On Earth, an explosion, even the size of a volcano _(like the Tonga one recently, which he has done a few videos on),_ has to fight against our atmosphere. A crude analogy: This is why you can't use a laser to communicate point-to-point over a great distance (ignoring Earth's curvature), as the atmosphere distorts it. Whereas two satellites CAN use them and over great distances, because there nothing to distort it. SpaceX's ver2 Starlink satellites, for example, have a laser that interlinks them with each other and basically functions as an internet backbone for their network.
Yep stands to reason that any planet of substantial size should have a core of heavy basic elements like iron , that orbiting a magnetar would be pulled into it with forces that would tear it apart, would love a video on how they are formed
Doesn't the "tar" in magnetar come from "star"? So we would have to call it a magnelet? In honor of Anton's B-Day can we call it a magneton? Happy B-Day 'Ton.
Maybe a magnetar surrounded by a massive cloud of metallic hydrogen. A spinning conductor surrounded by a conductor with constructive interfering x-ray/gamma bursts.
Looking at that graph at 2:15, I bet they could get a good idea of the surface of the magnetar by running that data through a filter that spreads tne data across a sphere... not sure that I'm explaining that very well, but I think most people here will be able to follow me. I'm thinking of treating the data like the output of a synthetic apperature radar reciever to see how much of the surface of the magnetar was emitting the gamma rays.
Anton, Extinction Event? You are going to give me a nervous breakdown. I love science but the more I learn the smaller I feel. It seems like it's inevitable that some cosmic force, burst, eruption, impact or any other number of apocalyptic verbs is going to wipe us off the face of the planet. I don't want to go out like that. 😁😊🙄🤔
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANTON 🎉

Happy Birthday Anton, that's another 940,000,000 km lap around the local star completed in just 365 days - Impressive pace

Did the chunk that caused the gamma burst change the rotation period of said magnetar ?
