- The Camp Fire caused near total destruction in the Northern California town of Paradise, just east of Chico. We've compiled some before and after images of using Google Maps and video taken by our ABC7 News crews. More photos here: abc7ne.ws/2FlPC3z

ironic how the bigger trees survive , but the man made objects (houses, cars, grass lawns) get utterly eradicated and turned to ash.

This breaks my heart! My high school choir sang at the Paradise SDA church there once, in the mid 1970s. Now it's gone! 😭
To the people who are back in the area, please show pictures of what is left standing. I know that some structures have survived. It is just as helpful to see as what has been lost. Thank you for this video. It is greatly appreciated.

I just watched an update of the town it's literally like a desert town now! barely any trees after this I am up in the PNW we had a huge fire up here but nothing as bad as Paradise! I hope the folks can find happiness move back start over! of course that is wayyyy easier said then done! much love all

Well, trees don’t have tanks full of gasoline. The larger yellow pines are some what fire resistant, Doug firs and Cedar, not so much. Glass melts at 1400 degrees. Remember the winds were blowing really hard. Ever fan a fire? Plus, embers the size of the palm of my hand were falling everywhere. The fire leap frogged rapidly, burning underbrush and small trees. Manzanita wood burns hot,really hot. The roads were on fire. The roads caught fire.

@1WildlandFirefighter Yes but they'd burn slower and hot spots would be more contained within rooms. In a town of brick houses fires would spread slower and be more manageable. In a town of wooden houses you just have a giant town-sized furnace.

@@ozzyosbourn177 some trees have a higher content of water are very moist and therefore will not burn... other trees for dryer and burned . Those with a higher alcohol content also burn

There are bodies in these cars and probable a lot of little bodies in the school bus you can see burned to a crisp here.
The fire seemed to be alive or controlled. Picked and choosed it’s victims.

The roads could not handle the amount of cars and people who have moved into the area over the last 10-15 years.....
Just like the big quake that is coming , this is the fire we've been expecting and it's even more devastating then imagined

No one could have possibly imagined destruction on this level. This is unprecedented in the history of California. I think they will probably consider something like a warning siren now, but you can't claim that they should have predicted something that has never happened before. I did a lot of fire clearance around my house up by the lake. In light of what has happened, I don't think it was near enough and I am hoping that it may be at least help if the fire travels the extra 1/4 mile it has left (according to current fire maps on Nov. 12th). I am scared for the people that I sold my old house to and I am hoping that they and their property are safe. I don't however, feel that blood is on my hands for not doing enough to stop such an insanely intense fire, the likes of which have never been seen before. We might as well try to sue nature for the drought.

So sad...but wondering how it could totally destroy vehicles yet leave the giant trees unharmed? But destroy the homes on the other side of them? I've never seen a fire do that.
I’m not sure if you really looked at fires before but you should search up wildfires in Oregon trees are all unharmed due to fire resistant giant trees have thick layers that keep it so it doesn’t burn next time do some research dumbass
Also it’s the dry grass under the trees that burn which makes the fire so powerful because fires are becoming less common which makes the dry grass grow bigger and bigger until eventually there is a fire and the grass is so dry and tall it becomes more powerful and destructive

Then Senator Diane Feinstein's husband has the contract to build the 1st phase of the High Speed Rail going throughout California. Lasering down homes is cheaper and faster than convincing and paying people to move out of their homes. Paradise was supposedly in the line of the proposed High Speed Rail. There's a map that tracks the CA fires and the proposed HSRail route. Could be one reason.
