Enjoyed this film, really got a sense of how soggy it was! I’ve never been a fan of German Shepherds due to a couple of incidents, but Petra has completely changed my mind - what a well behaved, honest dog - she’s a credit to you. 🥰

I’m very jealous that you live on the moor! I’m visiting in 2 weeks and looking forward to it, I haven’t been since last summer. I completely agree that Foggintor quarry is getting too busy. I did a loop of the North Moor last time and walked past the quarry on my way from Princetown to Merrivale and there was a huge family tent in the quarry. That’s not wild camping. I prefer to camp in the middle of nowhere where I’m completely alone. The problem is that many people want to camp close to their cars. Thanks for making the video
No. Thankyou. What a brilliant vid. I'll need to watch it again. Just so I can soak it all in. The bleakness, the conditions and the stunning surroundings. Thanks again .ian

@@outdoorsinspiration9284 I'm currently toying with the idea of getting myself some wild camping kit, and your videos have been really informative and given me some good food for thought. Cheers! 👍
Very informative stuff. Thank you. All of your videos are great. Thank you keep up the Amazing work. Very entertaining whilst working away from home. When you said Foggintor it made the hairs on my neck stand up. Always great to see Dartmoor. I’ve spent my fair-share of time in that place. But it’s still one of my favourite places to be.
Oh my, what a lovely video! Your dog is superb! What a beauty.💖 Loved the camp and getting to see the early-morning quarry. Very interesting history. Camping in the wind and rain awful yet exciting at the same time, Thanks so much.🙏 New subscriber.
Great vid as always Shamus, looked a nice spot and the lesson on the quarry was good. That unintentional swim Petra had :) she always aims to entertain her viewers, as you do obviously :) looking forward to the next video thanks for sharing and atb for now.
Hi Shamus, you must have a decent pair of gaiters to get through that depth of water but amazing that you go out for a camp in truly difficult conditions. Your camera shots and angles really immerse the viewer in your trip which is great for me as I am unable to get out camping at the moment. Organising and managing yourself and Petra in a small tent in such conditions is some feat, never mind filming as well. I am going to try that custard apple crunch. Great advice re condensation and drying out some clothing. You even managed a time-lapse in there too and took us on a trip to the stunning looking Foggintor Quarry. The only thing that I can think of to make the video better would have been you falling into the water instead of Petra! THANK YOU FOR SHARING AND PUTTING SUCH EFFORT INTO THIS..
Thank you for taking the time to comment, Tom. Although I'm not sure about the 'me falling in the quarry' bit 😂😂😂 Wishing you all the best - Shamus 👍🐶😊
Yes it's lovely to visit, but it really is worthwhile letting the place rest. It is within the power of the land owner to have it removed from the wild camping access land, and we don't want that 😊
@@outdoorsinspiration9284 I live in South Yorkshire so camp in the Peak District and North Yorkshire, sometimes the Lake District too. I've never been on Dartmoor, but it looks lovely.

Good bit of local history mate, also the Falklands war memorial was made at Merrivale Qaurry. one of the team of masons involved in the making of it still lives in Tavistock, I worked with him for 9 years upto last year. he has photos and newspapers of it all with the team. 👍
Love the nightlapse and I love Fogin Tor quarry and would love to camp there but I won't for the same reasons as you pluss most people who camp there are a different type of camper. I've camped near to Swell Tor quarry which is stunning and less known. And can't believe you used a 33ltr backpack just my sleeping bag would fill that. Poor petra falling in like that and that was very interesting hearing about the two quarrys😁👍
Thanks, Seamus; you mention here a jacket for Petra - could you let us know what jacket she has? My dog is smaller, and whilst he is a tough dog with a decent wiry coat, I'm yet to take him out in the winter/early spring for fear of it being too cold. What you do to keep Petra warm enough would be interesting to know. I am sure I speak for the masses when I say, looking forward to when your videos start again.
Thanks for your support, we will be back soon, having now moved house. WRT the jacket - it is a cheap fleece lined, nylon outer m dog jacket from Pets at Home - I think it was on sale for about £6. I’ve had bespoke warm pertex and fleece jackets made for past dogs, this does exactly the same job 👍😊🐶
Shamus I've just stumbled across your channel. Fantastic to see your wildcamp with Petra. I am also fortunate enough to be able to walk onto the moor from my home albeit the Haytor side and as someone who has wildcamped since school days echo your sentiments regarding the use of the moor and the impact some have had this year. Keep up the interesting content. ATB Ashley
Thank you, Ashley. That's very kind of you to take the time to comment 😊 I love the Haytor side of the moor, I used to live in Buckfastleigh and would regularly run over that part of the moor - it's beautiful 👍🐶

Oh I love your videos! So refreshing to see someone on TH-cam not full of themselves but just so humble, interesting and great to learn from! I love the way you laugh whenever the foul weather comes over!!! At the beginning of this video you walk thru a deep stream: surely the water is higher than your walking boots? Don't your feet get wet and doesn't that make them cold and uncomfortable for the rest of your trip? I've only ever wild camped in the summer. I'd like to know how on earth you pass the long hours of darkness, as that puts me off more than the weather.
Hello Peter, thank you 😊 The long night hours of a winter camp can be a real drag. But when I’m making a video, there isn’t enough time. The water from the steam certainly filled my boots, if it was avoidable I would have done, but that was the fording point. I’m never really too bothered by wet feet, unless it’s freezing temperatures, then I would avoid it. Thank you for watching 😊👍🐶
I did wonder how you happily walked through quite a depth a water - Rabb waders I was thinking, but guess you just accepted soggy socks? Another great video Shamus - thank you 🙏
Try a couple of black bin bags or rubble sacks in your pack. They weigh very little and pack down to a little size. Work great for fording streams and keeping your feet dry. Been using them for years😉
Hi. I only recently discovered your channel and am loving it. You are a natural talking to the camera and I appreciate the effort it takes to make content. I have an Akto and really know what camping in the rain with Petra really entails. Peace.
Nice video. I think it's great that you spend the night with a large German Shepherd dog in a fairly small tent in such bad weather. I had the Enan, the tent is the same size as the Akto, but found it too small to share it with my Vizsla. I exchanged the Enan for the Una and now have a lot more space for me and the dog. Thanks for all the nice videos you make.
Hi Raymond - The Unna is a lovely tent isn't it. My preferred tent for dog + one is my Anjan 2 - but it's always good to revisit things - Now I remember why I bought the Anjan 😂 Thanks for watching, much appreciated 😊🐶😊
Good video Shamus , a bit damp in the way in but a good camp. Ive not had my Akto out for a couple of years now , i'll need to get it out again . Cheers Stevie

Thank you, Keith. 😊 We love Wales - We had Petra specially imported... from Swansea 😂 I was going to head that way this month for a few weeks... obviously not now - Stay safe 👍😊🐶
Hi Seamus, great vid ….. love to learn what you do for Petra’s sleeping arrangement? My boy sleeps on top of a piece of 3mm acoustic foam and a section of a Thermarest Z light sol. Over him goes a doubled over down blanket and if it’s especially cold he goes into a cut down Rab bivi bag (cut down as it leaked, so only used inside the tent).
Another great video Shamus! Good information, interesting B-roll, time lapse photography, great music, all put together into an entertaining and informative package - it must've taken you ages to process it all. And who could forget the star of the show - Petra! You both make a good team, though! :-)
I came for camping insight, I stayed for the dog. Do you have any videos on how to camp with your dog, gear, sleeping arrangements, route planning, livestock avoidance etc?
I'm impressed with that pack weight. Best I've managed so far is about 8kg but that was with a tarp and bivvy bag. Note to self, September = crane fly season. :) I quickly worked out where you were heading when I recognised a piece of wall towards the beginning of the video. How sad is that. ATB, John.
Great video, and interesting to see the light weight kit. Following our message exchange the other week I have purchased some more bits, decided on the Rab Ascent 500 down sleeping bag and the Osprey Kestral rucksack, Berghaus deluge waterproof trousers, and the Rab Nebula insulated jacket. In terms of cooking, went for the Alpkit Brewkit. Off on a wild camp on Friday ! Keep up the videos and looking forward to Thursday. Have a good week, take care. Michael.
@@outdoorsinspiration9284 thanks, decided to follow your advice to try and get the best kit that I can afford. In terms of sleep mat, I went for the Sea to Summit Etherlite XT insulated. Yes, pretty much ready to go I think. The only thing I am not sure about is perhaps some thermals for the night, and some walking trousers, been wearing jeans up until now. My mate is supplying the tent ⛺️ very excited to be honest, definitely looking forward.
@@michaeldesouza4911 - Merino mix is always a good warm option for thermals - I just use cheap stuff to be honest. Definitely ditch the jeans 👍😊 best of luck and enjoy 🐶
We really enjoyed that. When you were in that river are you boots filling with water or are you using a system that keeps your feet dry. I am assuming not as your socks were soaked ? Thanks for sharing 👍
And Petra says woof 🐶 Thank you, it wasn't too bad, just a matter of taking things a step at a time - the first step is shelter, then warm, dry and eat custard apple crunch 😊 👍
You mentioned Hay Tor which brought back memories for me. The first climb I ever led was on Hay Tor. I did not do a good job, placed gear far too low and too deep in a horizontal crack. With the lack of gear placement opportunities higher up the climb and increasing rope drag in and out of the crack (lack of experience led to me not extending the gear placement) I was lucky not to take a fall high off the climb on to the ground. In retrospect, a climb that should probably have been top roped. You have a new subscriber.
Thanks David 😊 I took a whacking great fall off the Lowman route on Haytor 20 years ago, I was leading and something slipped (I don't know what) - anyway I came off upside down onto my head, rendering me unconscious for a bit. I ended up in Torbay casualty department... these things happen, at least I suffered no apparent affects ... or so I think 👍😂🐶
Another great video! I’d love to know more about your down tent boots, it looks like they don’t have soles. I’ve been looking for some for ages for winter nights and all I seem to find are hut boots with soles.
Great video. Very interesting to learn about Hay Tor Quarries and what some of the granite from Fogging Tor Quarry has been used for. I saw those boots a few weeks ago. At that time there was note next to them. They’re a memorial for someone who has passed into the next life, a fellow fan of the moor. Not a bad place for the spirit to wander. I’m lucky enough to have an Akto and a Soulo. I have to say I prefer the Akto in many ways. There are lighter tents about but all things considered it’s probably the best all round one person. Someone once wrote about the triangle of gear qualities - durability, low weight, and cost. Impossible to have all 3. Akto is pricey but worth it. Looking forward to your next video. Where did you learn all about the weather? Can you recommend a book? Cheers
Hi there, I use that triangle to explain the relationship between cost, durability and weight as well. I think it’s a general analogy that’s used across many sectors, originally “fast, cheap, good; pick two” 😊 as you can see from my videos, I also have a Soulo (and an Anjan) - for me the Akto is light enough and packs down nice and small as well👍 The Anjan is a beautiful tent that is relatively light too, and the Soulo is a fortress. I was fortunate enough to work for the British Antarctic Survey in the 90s, I lived in Antarctica for several years - that’s where I first learned meteorological observation. A few years later I actually did a met office observers course, it was about a week long back then... anyway meteorology wasn’t my job, just something that had to be done as a part of it. There are many books on ‘understanding weather’ but the HMSO Cloud Book is really good reference guide to cloud types 👍
Hi, Shamus did you have to dry the AKTO out when you got home how did it fair with the condensation looks a nice little set up , you are blessed where you live another little pocket of lovelyness in Britain !
I had one for a while, they are absolutely WILD for condensation. It's like a steam room no matter what. Nothing you can do to fix that. Sold it because of it. Terrible.
Great video and channel Shamus. Question, what is the pack Petra is carrying? I plan on wild camping with my Weimaraner, similar size to your dog. Many thanks. Matt
@@outdoorsinspiration9284 super I look forward to giving it a go. I’ve only done two wild camps but both videos are on my channel if you get bored 🙂 I’ve subscribed. Thanks again 🙏
Only just discovered your channel - and loved this video. I'm primarily a photographer than a hiker - but I hike and camp for that purpose, with my dog Barney the Border Collie too. My main focus when out is to get the shots I want but stay as dry and warm as possible - keeping away from bogs and streams etc. I was amazed to see you plodging (geordie term) knee-deep in the stream and then getting warm and dry in camp! What were you wearing for socks and trousers to be able to get things dry overnight? Wasnt the next days hike pretty unpleasant with soaked boots and bottoms? I'd love to upgrade my kit to be able to do that (or are you just hard as nails!!! ;-) ) I'll be checking out your other videos for sure. Thanks for sharing your expertise and experiences.
Wye aye 😉 - thanks for commenting... I don't know about the 'hard as nails' bit 😂 I try to avoid getting wet. That little river was swollen and I knew I would probably end up wet anyway. My boots and socks were wet in the morning, within 5 minutes I forget about it and don't notice - I would be a little more careful about it if it was colder though. I wear Montane Terra Pants, and generally find that they will dry quickly with body heat. so I don't hesitate to get them on in the morning, because I know it will start the drying process - provided it isn't still raining. Thanks for commenting 😊👍🐶
Thank you, Ken 😊 The ticks aren't active at this time of year. I have only had one attach to me in 4 decades of walking Dartmoor. I have 3 dogs (was 4 until recently) - The spring months are the worst, but they never bother me really 👍 Although I give the dogs a tick treatment, it doesn't stop them from attaching (it just kills them).
Arhhhh Bless Petra falling in the quarry. Agree with the over use and abuse of camping. Too many irresponsible people leaving debris and wreaking havoc. But hey ho. I’ve got an eBay special Akto. Great tent. But Again people expect it to be perfect and to cook breakfast for you as well as keeping you dry & safe.
Grand video that squire 👍 enjoyed the history behind the quarries use. Tip my cap to you for managing the camp with the wet kit & petra in the environment. Did you use a bivi over your bag? Love how as always, Petra took in the unexpected dip without batting an eyelid ❤️ The visual quality of the video is outstanding.... Your eye sacks looked like it wasn't a smooth night's kip was had? Thanks again for sharing the beauty of Dartmoor 😎👍
Thanks, bud 👍 much appreciated 😊 I didn't use an over-bag or bivi - It's a question of managing her until she's dry. It doesn't take long, she soon warms through with her fleece jacket and, by bed time, she's in the main compartment next to me and dry as a bone. I do have a couple of lightweight bivi bags - I used these with my spaniel who was all over the place and covered in mud. Petra really is an ideal camping dog and just takes everything in her stride.
@@outdoorsinspiration9284 thank you for the reply.. I was thinking about the bivi bag, as a wind style bag (Eg mld superlight) for keeping your sleeping bag drier from the humidity and condensation, as opposed to a full waterproof one 👍
@@runhikesleeprepeat187 Thats almost exactly like the one I have, its a lightweight pertex shell. I also had one customised with mesh on the upper part of the foot-box as that tends to get warm and create condensation. To be fair the bag wasn't too damp in the morning, just the inside of the fly.
@@outdoorsinspiration9284 My sleeping and tent/hammock system is about 6 kg, then there's food, water, clothes, bike gear and tool kit, Saw and fishing kit. Then if going with the trailer way more! lol. (Big saw too). I am trying to get it down, the trailer is great - I can turn that into the hub for a tarp tent like no other ...lol. In summer i'll do a video on how it works. But you can see a bit of it on my channel.
Hello Mr Shamus, may I ask a list of Petra's backpack? I'd really love to backpack with my maremmano in our Etna slopes and you could give wonderful tips. And shall I suggest using a hydrophobic lens protector for Petra's cam? Much love, i really enjoyed the video!

Great vid, looks like a fun overnighter. And, pretty incredible how you fit all your (winter) gear in a 33L pack at only 6.5kg. I'm interested to know what the weight of your tent, sleep system and cook system would be? Cheers
Thanks Alan 😊 approximately: Tent 1.4kg - Sleeping bag 1.05kg - mat 0.43kg - stove 75g - pot 120g. To be fair, that was for this night out, I was in a hurry to stow some kit and I was surprise at the pack size, so I weighed it 😊 I’m not really into lightweight hiking - I prefer a bit more comfort 👍
Hi Jim, thanks for asking 😊 It is a 360 camera, yes 👍 Worth the money, I'm not sure about that - Ideally I would prefer to fly a drone to add to the images, but they are illegal to use on access land within Dartmoor National Park, so I can't. That's why I use the 360 camera. They are simple enough to use and it gets used as my second 'PetraCam' camera as well.
Hi Shamus, Just wondering which Rab down bag you used? I need to upgrade my old ME Helium this winter as it is getting a bit battered but as well as the usual weight/warmth considerations that you think of I am struggling to get an idea of pack size for a lot of the current products that look interesting online. I'm assuming that with your base weight getting nice and low, using a 33L bag and the weather being not great that whatever bag you are using is a good combo of low weight, small pack size and decent comfort rating? Thanks in advance, Pete
Hi Pete, this particular bag isn't available anymore It is the original (not the current) Rab Alpine 600 which had 800 fill power down. It squishes into an 8 litre dry bag and has a comfort rating of -7. I am a cold sleeper, so I have another bag as well (rated to -15) which is a Cumulus Teneqa 850 - this compresses to around 12 litres, that would have been pushing things for this set up though.
Thank you 😊 She stays in the porch while she dries and warms up with her coat on, then into the main compartment at bed time 👍 But it does depend on which tent I use to be fair.
@@outdoorsinspiration9284 Ah right I know some dogs are more solid than others mines a bit of a wuss and tries to get in as soon as we get to the site pretty much lol
How you doing fella, catch any fish this season! , you've got to be keen to camp in those conditions fair play to you, hope you got permission to fly your drone!😄 That said it would be good to catch up over a good pint of dartmoor beer. All best geoff.
Oh my goodness, how are you Geoff 😊 It was a pretty fishless season, but that didn't take much working out 😂 I was thinking of both you and Ed yesterday, I walked down through Brownberry to the Swincombe . I was 'eyeing up' the pools along the way and thinking of days gone by when I passed Bridge Pool (or lack of bridge). It's not a bleddy drone, it's a 360 camera on 2.8m carbon pole - it's very clever, you can't see the pole but look at my right hand, and you'll see it's holding the base of the pole. Take care, stay safe and keep in touch.👍
@@geoffpartridge8801 - Absolutely 😂 But unfortunately I haven't been into a pub since before lockdown (there are various reasons for that) but when I do, I'll make a direct line for the Forest and buy you one 👍
That's a very important point 👍 Firstly she is a German Shepherd, she has a double coat and is bred for being outside in all weather - she has never shown signs of cold while we are outside. Her pack gives her some additional thermal protection when we are hiking. Once we are sheltered in the tent 'industrial' bubblewrap marks her spot to lie on, this insulates her from the ground. She starts to naturally, dry fairly quickly, but I do have a lightweight blanket for her, should she need drying. The next step is the fluffy jacket with the pertex shell that she wears - this traps in body heat and dries her more rapidly. By now she is getting dry and then eventually 'migrates' into the main tent last thing at night to sleep. 🐶
@@outdoorsinspiration9284 Thanks for such a thorough reply. I have a Cocker Spaniel and was worried about him getting cold and wet with a long coat before entering / sleeping in the tent. You’ve given some really good tips, which I will definitely look into. Love the videos 👍
@@marktwy1 Thank you 😊 I nearly added my experience of my own spaniel but didn't... So I'll tell you now. I had a Springer Spaniel, he was always on the go, but if we stopped he would feel the cold and would shiver. I bought him a jacket from RuffWear that had a thick lining and a Cordura type outer - this worked very well, he would wear it all day in winter and then it would come off and I would put a thin thermal jacket on him to sleep at night because he always came inside the tent with me. I used to take a lightweight bivvi bag to cover my down sleeping bag with because he was terrible for getting muck and wet all over it 😂

I camped on king torr last time I was out. we were reading some story's about adders and that has now put the fear of god in her so she is reluctant to return. I think it's gonna cost me a pair of gators for her before she will want to come back.
My understanding is that 7,000 years ago it would have been wooded, but as we moved into the Bronze Age and people settled , they cleared areas and used timber as a resourcet. Grazing prevents the regrowth, but there are areas that are now being designated for 're-wilding' 😊
@@outdoorsinspiration9284 7,000 years ago, so much human history there. We have similar areas in the United States. The early settlers to the Appalachian mountains cleared trees for crops and grazing animals.
@@joehikes5855 - There are a few Neolithic sites here, but mostly the history (or prehistory) starts at the early Bronze Age when the Beaker Folk came and settled. hey dominated the landscape and are effectively our ancestors. That's when people started to settle and create enclosures and farms around 4,500 years ago... Meanwhile, in Egypt, they were building the Pyramids, while we had stone circles 😂
They can be harmful to dogs. In all the years I've spent on the moor I've only ever had one attach to me. My spaniel used to get covered in them. I have three dogs now and I treat all against ticks in the main prevalent months. It doesn't stop them attaching, but it kills the ticks once they've attached.
@@outdoorsinspiration9284 so do you worry about tics as such, when I went to Dartmoor the first time I was in shorts and short sleeves shirt and did loads of bushwhacking through flora around the lustleigh cleave area without a care in the world but I did see two tics on my last day, fortunately not on me. The second time I was a bit more sensible with long trousers the whole time. Sounds like you have been really fortunate. 👍🏽
I tried them for a few years, but to be honest, when you wade there isn't much improvement normally. But actually, as you suggest, for day two they may have some benefit 👍 I might give that a go, thank you for the suggestion 🐶😊👍

Great vid as always Shamus, looked a nice spot and the lesson on the quarry was good. That unintentional swim Petra had :) she always aims to entertain her viewers, as you do obviously :) looking forward to the next video thanks for sharing and atb for now.
Hi Nigel 😊 Thank you for watching, I’m glad you enjoyed it 👍🐶
Hi Shamus, you must have a decent pair of gaiters to get through that depth of water but amazing that you go out for a camp in truly difficult conditions.
Petra really is living her best life. The quarry looked a great spot for a wild camp, but from what you said it seems many think the same.
Yes it's lovely to visit, but it really is worthwhile letting the place rest. It is within the power of the land owner to have it removed from the wild camping access land, and we don't want that 😊

Really Nice video and Beautiful nature 😅🤗😊😆
Thank you 😊 that’s much appreciated 👍
I did wonder how you happily walked through quite a depth a water - Rabb waders I was thinking, but guess you just accepted soggy socks? Another great video Shamus - thank you 🙏
Thanks Gary 😊 yes I just put up with wet feet, dry them out overnight and start again 👍😊🐶
Try a couple of black bin bags or rubble sacks in your pack. They weigh very little and pack down to a little size. Work great for fording streams and keeping your feet dry. Been using them for years😉
Now that’s a good idea - thanks 🙏

It Varys depending on conditions, but for winter she now has a short self inflating mat.

Hi David 😊 No, soles on these are, to coin a phrase, pants 😂 these were a cheap pair of down booties from Ali Express - but they do a great job 👍
Terrible.

Really enjoyed your video, now a subscriber. How do you keep Petra free of ticks, so that you can safely share your tent?
Thank you, Ken 😊 The ticks aren't active at this time of year. I have only had one attach to me in 4 decades of walking Dartmoor. I have 3 dogs (was 4 until recently) - The spring months are the worst, but they never bother me really 👍 Although I give the dogs a tick treatment, it doesn't stop them from attaching (it just kills them).
What brand are your down booties? Loved the video, especially liked Petra Cam, so interesting to see it from her eye level.
I love Petracam too 😊 The booties are Naturehike form China at the princely sum of about £5 👍
Arhhhh Bless Petra falling in the quarry.

Hello Shamus. Another great piece of content! Can I ask what equipment you used to get the Ariel shots at the quarry. Keep up the great work 👍

Love how as always, Petra took in the unexpected dip without batting an eyelid ❤️
The visual quality of the video is outstanding....

To be fair, that was for this night out, I was in a hurry to stow some kit and I was surprise at the pack size, so I weighed it 😊 I’m not really into lightweight hiking - I prefer a bit more comfort 👍

do you use a 360 degree cam for the wide angle shots of yourself as your walking, if so are they easy to use and worth the money? TIA
@@outdoorsinspiration9284 thanks! 12L isn't too bad on the Cumulus Teneqa, will take a look.
Dog cam is cool haha! Bit of a squish with the two of you though does she sleep in the porch?
Thank you 😊 She stays in the porch while she dries and warms up with her coat on, then into the main compartment at bed time 👍 But it does depend on which tent I use to be fair.
@@outdoorsinspiration9284 Ah right I know some dogs are more solid than others mines a bit of a wuss and tries to get in as soon as we get to the site pretty much lol

@@outdoorsinspiration9284 👍
Hi Shamus, I just wondered how you get Petra dry and warm quickly in the cold weather?
I used to take a lightweight bivvi bag to cover my down sleeping bag with because he was terrible for getting muck and wet all over it 😂
@@outdoorsinspiration9284 Thanks Shamus, great advice. What I like about your videos is how Petra enjoys the wild camp. It’s given me confidence to get out with my dog! My cocker is just a pup at the moment, so started to train him to settle with the tent in the garden first. Looking forward to your next trip. Thanks
Hi Shamus, can you recommend a good head torch, my cheapy one finally packed up today 😟
Hi Michael I can. However, you guessed it it's not cheap... If you watch tonights video (out in a bit) you'll see an introduction to my latest. 👍 I have been to the Petzl HQ in Crolles and seen the R&D in Petzl head torches - Ive issued hundreds to SAR volunteers and had a whole array over 30 years - I have never had a Petzl head torch go wrong. As a starting pint go for around 300 lumens 😊👍🐶
@@outdoorsinspiration9284 great, looking forward the latest video ! I was thinking Petzl so that’s good. Thanks for the guidance.... as always, very much appreciated.
I camped on king torr last time I was out. we were reading some story's about adders and that has now put the fear of god in her so she is reluctant to return. I think it's gonna cost me a pair of gators for her before she will want to come back.
Hi Lee, I’m not keen on adders, but I don’t see many, perhaps 1 every year. They generally keep clear. 😊 Thanks for watching 👍
Is that area naturally devoid of trees, or has it been deforested over the aegis?
I'm curious how you deal with the dangers of tics for Petra, or are they not such a danger for dogs 🤔
@@AggyGoesOutdoors - They don't seem to bother me. I'm not fond of shorts for walking anyway but that has nothing to do with ticks.
I would think waterproof socks would work well in soaking wet boot
I tried them for a few years, but to be honest, when you wade there isn't much improvement normally. But actually, as you suggest, for day two they may have some benefit 👍 I might give that a go, thank you for the suggestion 🐶😊👍
Petra's lovely. A bit bigger than TFS, though :-)
Hi Ian, fantastic to hear from you 😊 TFS loved camping, bless him. Although he was always covered in muck! I thought of you the other day as I pitched a tent in the same spot where you, Dave and I did all those years ago when it snowed at Easter. I hope you're well👍🐶
@@outdoorsinspiration9284 - I'm fine, thanks. Looking forward to some Dartmoor photography trips this winter.
@@ianiles6430 - I still have some of your photos from our trip to Cranmere Pool that winter in the snow 👍
@@outdoorsinspiration9284 Blimey, that was a while ago. They'll be on a hard-drive somewhere. Let's hope there's a decen amount of snow this winter.
