Recently started my job as a DS as well! I really enjoy seeing other ppl’s daily routines so I know what to expect in my future! A lot of my DS work is product-facing work (heavy machine learning/deep learning focused and building out ML architecture into product) so just finished onboarding and I immediately have tight deadlines for our Q4 deliverables 😅 I will make sure that I set up as many meetings as possible with other team members and stakeholders asap

@northgirl77 I was going to do Springboard because I was not working and the state would have covered that, but there were miscommunications among other things that impacted me negatively, unable to be approved for this. Now I am stuck at a job making what I made back in 2016, and struggling to find a job to pay me enough where I can cover bills and fund my continued education.

I'm about to graduate with a degree in Actuarial Science in South Africa so becoming a data scientist is a plausible career path for me too - except I really want to work overseas. Do you have any advice for an international candidate finding work as a data scientist in the states (or Chicago)? Loved this video xx
Yeah, invest in moving to the US first. I literally have two other buddies from South Africa that did the same thing who were with me at Amazon, and they said its almost next to impossible to get companies to look into getting you overseas off their money.

Good question. I'm a machine operator. Idk if that counts towards this field but I'm going to school for tech as well. I'll finish up in December and will be looking for work afterwards.

I am curious why data scientists live in large expensive cities to live in? I want to become a data scientist and go move to Mississippi so I can buy land. So while I work and cost of living is cheap, I can begin my plans to make my non-profit LLC.
That sounds awesome! I personally love Chicago - I went to the University of Chicago, and also I just love cities in general! Also, most tech companies adjust your salary to the cost of living of the city you're in, so it doesn't really matter where I live, they'd adjust it accordingly based on CoL and state/local taxes.

We have Silicon Valley out here too, but I am knowing that coming into this with zero experience, I don't expect anything big. However, I wanted to get something while here, and then relocate. I had no idea it was based on where one resides though, if they are remote.. That may put a hamper on my plans. Hmm.. But also, could create a good opportunity to be ahead if it is a not so popular title/role. I know Gulfport, MS is low cost of living with a small population.. Well, now you have given me something to really stop and think about.
Serious question: how the [bleep] do people who hold 6 meetings in one day manage to get any actual work done? If I had that many meetings, I'd take the rest of the day off.

Sometimes, but usually not that many. I'd say I have less now (around 1-3 a day).
