We lost a real treasure to the BORG collective of CN. So many people believe that everything would have been better off if the GBW remained independent. RR
The GB&W 319 made it as far as late 2023 being intact on the LA&L in faded red paint before being parted out and scrapped early this year. 320 and 321 unfortunately were cut up several years back. The former all-Alco road is now a shell of its former self, with GP15's coming online to replace the former C424's, C425's, and C430's left. All 630's and 636's have left the property.
1. Once again more in-depth look at operations on GB&W, this the west end. 2. I am curious on which of BN'S road freights stop to work to GB&W interchange at East Winona. 3. That #2 of January 15, 1993 is of noteworthy interest. The folks from PENTREX were on hand in the area that very day documenting that & spotting a PLOW EXTRA heading east. These trains are featured in their title: "WINTER ALONG THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI" but unfortunately that would be their last visit to this line before the WC took over. If they'd come back months afterwards then they'd be able to get one last look of the famed Alco's in red one final time & to give a proper send off to this fine hard working, friendly railroad & it's employees with a down home flavor. 4. Looks like mother nature didn't spare the GB&W any damage during the floods of 1993 as well.
@@1974rail No, I was working the St. Louis trains at the time. Eventually, I would get to know the Metra equipment very well, but that's another story. RR

great series! helps with ideas for my modeling endeavors!
We're happy you're getting ideas for modeling. I wonder if a layout exists based on the GBW. That would be an awesome layout to operate! RR

Neat videos! Where was the intermodal traffic destined or originated on the GB&W? Thanks for posting
I believe a furniture factor in Arcadia Wisconsin still gets wood in them. Also BN experimented with opening a container ramp in Green Bay years ago.
Thanks for the info. It’s appreciated.
Did you work for amtrak in 1992 just curious?
