  • The Campi Flegrei ("burning fields") or Phlegrean Fields is a large, 13-km-wide nested caldera located under the western outskirts of the citiy of Naples and under the Gulf of Pozzuoli.
    It contains many volcanic centers (cinder cones, tuff rings, calderas) that have been active during the past 30-40,000 years. The volcanic field has been the site of some extremely violent eruptions in the past, although the few ones that occurred during historic times were small events. Today, there is no sign of imminent reawakening of activity, although there are abundant signs of the presence of a still active magma chamber in the forms of solfataras, warm springs, gas emissions etc. In particular, the Campi Flegrei is infamous for its frequent episodes of major ground deformation in the form of large-scale up- and downlift of the ground

    roughly 500.000 people live INSIDE the volcano. Not on the slopes of it, but INSIDE it. That is why Campi Flegrei is so dangerous.

      Living inside a volcano doesn't seem like a smart idea.

      And that is exactly why they won't update the sites and tell people there is an emergency until it is too late to successfully evacuate everybody. It's been leaked top experts around the area know it's about to errupt but have no reasources and no where to put everybody so that's why they aren't even trying to evacuate everyone which is ridiculous.

    Buildings were damaged and 39 families had to be evacuated because their homes are unsafe now. The situation is very complicated, the earthquakes are at only 2.5 km now, magma is clearly on the move. Hopefully, things will calm down.

    Scary stuff taking place as we’re still in cycle 25… but it’s the Canary Islands, Puma Slump that is the most terrifying part of geological events and I pray that it will never happen…. And Yellowstone and the Juan de fuca is scary 😱 for me bcuz we live in Oregon about 25 miles east of Mt Hood

    Must be watched, but not to worry yet. Ground deformation just before the 1538 eruption was 12 inches per day. That's per day, not per month. The larger earthquakes of the past few days show that magma is moving, but ground deformation is a better indicator of impending eruption.

    I predict ischia island will be center of the eruption.
    Because it keeps rumbling there. Maybe the capstone is forcing magma sideways to new vent. Obviously that volcano makes new vents on a regular basis. All sorts of small calderas.

    You should be concerned about Campi because the Italian volcanologists are concerned about it. They have been concerned about it for years. And it has been busy building with ground uplift for awhile now. I once read a book by another volcano expert. And he said that each volcano needs to be judged by the scientists who know that particular volcano. Because they are like people apparently - what may be normal for one may not be for another one. The book is "Out of the Crater" by Richard V Fisher. The Italian scientists know Campi the best. Plus there are all of those people living right there, literally right on top of it. Its a whole different situation. How could you evacuate all of those people quickly? And what if this recent activity was the "warning"? The situation is just too risky with those people right there. No way to move those people out fast. I just feel these volcano are unpredictable. Hopefully it wont do anything but rumble or make that stinky gas but who really can say?

    • @popscope
      @popscope 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      Also they released a bulletin that showed seismic tomography results 2 weeks ago and it showed a magma chamber at 4,5km depth and magma has been moving upwards since the crisis in 1984. No eruption imminent but it's building up 4 sure
