At Northridge, CA quake we had family food boxes from Nashville Disaster Relief (enough for a family for 1 week) we found out that some were selling cans of the food on the street for $1 a can. Also same people coming back next day for another box. So they started writing down the person's address & name(looking at their ID) to avoid people taking advantage & they would check to see if they had already received a box. That was in 1990's so imagine it is worse these days!
Greed is always shocking. Our little town is no different. Our Church gives out free what ever comes in . Hurts when it is abused . Some will keep taking. Pray for us .
I sure hope those chains saw and other goods weren’t donated to those that needed it. Many of us pilots here in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia spent our own time and money to fly multiple missions into north east Tennessee and western North Carolina. I didn’t do that to see some scum bag take those needed items and sell them at the market. Just remember what goes around comes around and their payback time is coming.
That is a good idea on the black marks on the bar codes. Could also write "donated for disaster relief - 2024" in large letters on tarps, tents and other items. Just use a permanent marker.
I was there, last week, doing a lot of saw work. A good bunch of requests were for trees that were not an immediate danger and quite a few were vacation rentals. Some of these homes can probably afford the $500-1000, to have it done. I once worked for the salvation army and we had a major say "sometimes you have to get through the greedy to get to the needy"
It is. The only department from the government that is actually out there, checking on families to assess their welfare is CPS. And guess what? They are taking people's kids for not having proper means to care for them... because they know their parents have nothing, no means to fight the system with. Everything about that is WRONG WRONG WRONG.

I have been wondering how "they" were going to screw up donations. Really makes me wonder what happened to the money that was donated, if this was possibly happening with items...
There are many desperate people and desperation can make folks do unmoral things. It's terrible but some live like it's sink or swim no matter what. Absolutely mark out those barcodes! This world has changed so much, and people will do anything now days! It's hard when disasters like this happen and people take advantage. It's not always easy to get a system started to verify addresses before people were given things. I know it sounds sort of mean, but it would cut down on things like this happening. If you don't live in one of the areas that was hit, you don't get help. But again, the aim is to get what people need ASAP and there is not always time for full organization. Those that get items with the plans on reselling them, will likely be the first at the door. Everyone else is tending to just be just surviving for the moment and getting supplies is not their first thought. I read this happened more in Ashville than anywhere else.
I have been volunteering at a church in Black Mountain, and as a church, they have done a great job of dispersing things to those who actually need them, however, there is greed. Without calling out anyone specifically, nothing can or will be done about it. I too, can confirm that there are groups of people going around to donation centers in the area multiple times a week, and getting all of the items you were showing in the video.
If people are taking things that they don't need & plan to resell, then it needs to be called out!! People will see this & stop donating next time there is a disaster!!

They are actually picking up the shipments delivered at the church door steps and then sorting them and categorization them in the fellowship halls of the churches, and then the church MEMBERS are going up to the people who are stranded, starving, cold, dying, and homeless. and delivering. By the way, PEOPLE ARE STILL BEING FOUND!! PEOPLE ARE STILL DYING!! BABIES ARE STILL DYING! PRAY PRAY
People will be reluctant to donate when they see those items in the flea market. Why should I send hundreds of dollars of supplies for thieves. I sent $500.00 for supplies and I'm 79 years old. I have a big heart, but not to be taken advantage of by thieves. You should have called the police, and filmed the faces of the sellers.
Please ask the Pastor if he would be willing to discontinue sales of items that seem to be ill-gotten gains. Calvary Chapels have really high standards in relation to unsavory practices.

I don't know how those who try to profit off situations like this can live with themselves. I'm the type of person whose kneejerk reaction is to reject charitable offerings, even if I actually need what's being offered, because I know in my heart that somebody else needs it more than I do. So many people have lost everything, and pretty much the only ones even trying to do anything to help are volunteers doing so out of the kindness of their hearts, and yet at every turn, even their efforts are being thwarted by state and government getting in the way. Not sure why make an accusation without proof. "I don't normally see blankets" only proves its not normally winter season when you go to the flea market. You have all the commenters in chat complaining the sellers are criminals, when the sellers may just be bringing in seasonal items, or items the sellers know there is a market for. Some flea market venders make a living travelling and trading wares. Get proof before slander.
You need to watch the whole video. I did not slander anyone. This is true and it is happening. I said you need to be on guard. Distribution centers are marking heaters and generators and ever checking IDs . If it looks suspicious you need to be aware.

I didn't see any proof that this stuff came from donations.
North Carolina isn't 30 minutes from Nashville, what's a matter with you ?
Not sure why make an accusation without proof. "I don't normally see blankets" only proves its not normally winter season when you go to the flea market. You have all the commenters in chat complaining the sellers are criminals, when the sellers may just be bringing in seasonal items, or items the sellers know there is a market for. Some flea market venders make a living travelling and trading wares. Get proof before slander.
You need to watch the whole video. I did not slander anyone. This is true and it is happening. I said you need to be on guard. Distribution centers are marking heaters and generators and ever checking
IDs . If it looks suspicious you need to be aware.
well..duh... the hurricanes were not that bad. Yeah, there was a little mess with dirt and tree branches in spots. But so many donations were made to people who didn't need it..
