This was ahead of its time. The base intro, the Hammond organ and the tambourine intro is sublime. I never heard this song before the cover version a few years ago and had no idea that this was a franky valli original. Bloody superb!
When I was a a young man in the seventies, this record stood out to me as being different. It was different, but I didn't know why. Most of the Four Seasons records were to a different formula. Silver Star also different. In my later years, I now realise why this was so liked by Northern Soul fans, (the fast beat). I love hearing this today. Frankie Valli is still touring in 2023, what a fantastic man
What a song! So jealous it was before my time. Would have loved to have been at a packed out northern soul dance hall. All the cool cats cutting there shapes to this. I can only imagine the DJ playing this for the first time. Mustve been magical 😊. I salute the older generation for saving this song as i believe it wasnt deemed a hit in the UK at the time . Thank you people 🫡
It's never before your time. Search out soul clubs and you'll find the music, the passion and the faith being kept. I'm 60 now and still dancing, love sharing the floor with the younger dancers
@@maggieidk3875 I expect Wigan Casino (famous on the Northern Soul scene back in the day), as judging by their pfp, they probably hopped over the border for their nights out back in their youth, before becoming an expat down your way in their later years.
went in to school Monday morning after heavy weekend 🙂still buzzing and dancing singing teacher telling me to sit down stop dancing and singing this is wot i danced to and sang all Monday at school 😀😎 im 60 now but still dancing and singing naturally of course
I doubt anyone could have delivered this the way he did. First heard him and the Four Seasons on a juke box at the garrison swimming pool in Kluang Malaya. Must have been about 1963 time and I really cannot remember whether it was Sherry or Rag Doll but his voice had me hooked.
Being a teenager when this was released and loving Northern Soul (Wigan) my mum would not let me go, it still resonates today as one of my favourite songs! My brother in law was in a group Pickwick Papers who performed in the Northern Clubs, and sang falsetto, singing "Sherry" and many other songs. Frankie Valli and 4 Seasons are performing in the UK next year - Scarborough, Liverpool, Nottingham, London.
I was born in ‘82, so I missed the Northern Soul scene but love this song and I can imagine what it would be like when it came on during an all nighter at Wigan Casino etc
I recently went to see a Frankie Valli tribute band! This was the last song they sang! Absolutely fab seeing the audience all get up out of their seats! One bloke behind me shouted get your talk out! So funny! Top night 🤗🤭💕
May you have many more years with Northern soul music and dance 🕺 ❤ 🎶 I'm a Northern soulier since I was 13 I'm 56 now KTF love from Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪 ❤
wow brilliant northern soul track by frankie '' top 4 in the charts in 75' I think ' memories of my youth -great dance track ' I remember baggie trousers I I had with high waist band and side pockets ' and loafers or brogues ' 'and we had metal in the heel of our shoe ''great for dancing with the leather souls'''
As a wigan lad I use to see the all nighter soulies in wigan baths on Sunday mornings Too young to go to the casino but my sister was a regular and also yhe beachcomber and the twisted wheel and torch
I remember they played this a lot on Laser 558 (pirate radio) back in the summer of 1985 - only now, from watching the first part of #RedRose on #BBC3 did I get enough info to track this track down, so to speak...
Like this song but Frankie Valli just released a song. Just because some Northern Soul dj played it ,it became northern soul but to the rest of us it was just a good song
The Americans didn't know what to do with this Music, we did , We Danced and Rode Scooters 😉❤🇬🇧
Frankie Valli’s best song. Powerful, great bass intro.
What an amazing song!! WOW!
My beautiful dad worked at Wigan casino when northern soul was at its height .
It’s where he met my mum ❤
Nice 👍
do you like the music too?
My Mum and Dad met at the casino too. I love the music, music today has no soul.
I went to the casino just before it closed,a great venue. The final 3 songs of the night will be my burial choices.❤❤
Northern soul will never die!
This was ahead of its time. The base intro, the Hammond organ and the tambourine intro is sublime. I never heard this song before the cover version a few years ago and had no idea that this was a franky valli original. Bloody superb!

Frankie had the voice of a thousand singing men.
He nails it on the night more than any for me.
Took me 40 yrs to appreciate this song..
Played it full blast to an empty dance hall, before the night started.. And BAM.. It hit me!! X
Me too!

Such a magnificent track. What about ;Billy Davis Nobody home to go home to. My fave at this moment.
Perfection
List to that bass, it underscores the song perfectly. A very good song.
Joe Long.
Sensational
Just a fabulous song ❤
100 beats a minute. To see the kids of Blackpool Mecca and Wigan Casino, and elsewhere, break-dancing to this must have been phenomenal.
What a voice! When we are called home, may it be with this man's voice - and may we be dancing...
God bless brought a year to me eyes , K.T. F
i just love this song so much 💙💙
Great version with an orchestra on the BBC northern soul prom
Yes wasn’t it wonderful! So glad I recorded it!
Easily a contender for Best SONG Ever, been listening to it for nearly 20 years now. Fund it by accident a long time ago
I JUST LOVE IT KTF

I was in the Highland Room in 1970 when Curtis Mayfields "Move on up" was played for the first time, I still get electric shocks when I listen to it
Keep dancing......@@wulfsheadbladesmiths6666

Brilliant track putting The Four Seasons firmly back in the driving seat in 1975.
What A track 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤
It was really so gooood!! 😋 X
this tune turned my head around
I doubt anyone could have delivered this the way he did. First heard him and the Four Seasons on a juke box at the garrison swimming pool in Kluang Malaya. Must have been about 1963 time and I really cannot remember whether it was Sherry or Rag Doll but his voice had me hooked.
Fucking must have been some type of northern soul dancer or something in my past life I’m 12 and I fucking have fallen in love with it
Simple - you just have great taste.
Yeh, shame about the unnecessary language though, but hey...
@@BookieKillah Ahhh, they're excited and have found 'their sound' - get on the dancefloor and express yourself there, young one...
Wow brings back so many memories from my teenage years
