Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! is a 1996 adventure platform video game developed by Rare and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The game was the final instalment in the Donkey Kong Country series to appear on that console. Donkey Kong Country 3 was released in late 1996 in North America, Europe and Japan. The game was ported to the Game Boy Advance in 2005 with a different soundtrack and added features. The game was released on the Wii's Virtual Console service in North America on 24 December 2007 (unavailable from 16 November 2012 until 26 February 2015), and the following day in Europe as a special Christmas update (was unavailable in Europe from 25 November 2012 until 30 October 2014) as well as for Wii U on 30 October 2014 in Europe, on 26 November in Japan, and in North America on 26 February 2015.

Azure Plumber I do respect your opinion, but I kinda think that the snes soundtrack was a bit of a step down coming from DKC1 and DKC2. I mean, there are some tracks I really do like but my problem is that most of the tracks literally have a ton of bass, the atmosphere, it fits, but with tracks that have a ton of bass (I think one track is almost entirely bass) it can just sound boring,
The GBA version on the other hand imo, has the better soundtrack since the tunes were very unique and pretty wacky, which does fit the cartoonish style of Donkey Kong. And I think this was a change that had to be made because the GBA speaker and sound would literally blow up because it can’t handle bass like that.

This was THE game I put the most time in on the GBA. This was my introduction into DKC and I'll forever love this port because of that

This was my first game to ever play, childhood memories.

This game has a very special place in my heart. I got it when I was a kid and i never could figure out how to beat the waterfall boss bc i didnt know the controls to suck water from the waterfall. I would play this game all the time just to come to a dead end at that boss fight. 7 years later of on/off playing and i miraculously found the solution one day. I beat the waterfall boss and opened up the world and went on to complete my childhood dream. The memories this game gives me gets me every time.

Give Nintendo credit. They could’ve just ported this game to the GBA and let that be it but they completely redid the soundtrack, added a few mini games, added in Pacifico, and even did something with the ending. Good for them!
Of all the tracks in the GBA version of DKC3, Water World (I believe that's the name of it) is my #1 favorite.

And they also did huge mistakes, Bad audio quality (This is GBA's limitations fault so it can be understandable), Bad color palette, the soundtrack, there are tracks that they should've added, like Big Boss Blues (Final Boss theme, The final boss uses the Generic Boss theme) Swanky, Funky, Wrinkly and the Bear brothers are missing.

They were going to use the OG and the Redone soundtrack, but they couldn't because of the GBA limitations, I will say this, but it is only my opinion.
DKC3 for the SNES is better.
I will always tell people that this is the definitive version of DKC3. Yes, it’s graphically inferior. Yes, the SNES soundtrack is phenomenal in its own right. Thing is, this port did a lot (imo) to make 3 a stand-out in the series, as opposed to the “underwhelming finale” many seem to regard it as. The newer, catchier, more DK-like soundtrack kicks so much ass. Pacifica is a welcome addition. I kinda like the new minigames. Bla bla bla.

@@Mystik459 my favorite always fluctuates between 2 & 3 (not counting Tropical Freeze) so I totally get where you’re coming from. I really recommend this version, give the soundtrack a chance, David Wise never disappoints!
For who to played DK3 on SNES in 90s for the first time, this new version looks like a fan made or a hack rom, even though the OST was made fully by David Wise. The first version has unicity with the trilogy. A definitely master piece.

Love how Frosty Frolics & Treetop Tumble doesn't sound serious in this version while it does in the SNES version, and the opposite is true for Mill Fever & Rockface Rumble 😂😂

Oh goodness the overworld theme really brought me back to the days where I’d play this game in car rides! My parents played DKC games together before we were born, and bought me DKC3 for the GBA. Always loved this title.

1:14:28 - glitch in letter collection. Player collects last letter and enter bonus barrel before letter animation ends. After he exits bonus level last letter respawned again.
Back when all you had to do to play the full game was buy the cartridge, no micro transactions or pay to keep on playing stuff
Well, technically, you also had to be good enough to beat the whole game, but even that is still better than micro transactions.

@@loregasmic I find everything else in the game to fit even better than the originals. Mostly seeing as this time around the soundtrack was composed by the legendary David Wise.

Eveline Fischer's original soundtrack fit the game a lot more than this. Her calm and atmospheric music caught the spirit of the game design, but this new soundtrack sticks out too much and doesn't go well with the overall atmosphere.
I think Eveline Fischer’s is a little too moody and downtempo, which I imagine is part of the reason the new songs were made more upbeat.
I would’ve preferred to see a collaboration of the two, since I think they each do different sections better.
Tbh, half the tracks in both versions are pretty forgettable/could’ve used an update. Like the river, aquatic, waterfall, and cave level themes. None of those stand out to me on either the snes or gba game.

Because they had David Wise compose a new soundtrack for it. Enough said. (I do like the SNES version’s OST too, but I prefer this one.)

Seriously? I love the SNES music a lot better. Sure, David Wise composed for the GBA version but it sure wasn't his best stuff especially when compared to his scores for DKC1 and DKC2. Also Eveline Fischer really did a damn good job with the atmospheric tone for the game.
Does this game not have a final boss theme?
That bothered me, too! It seems as though Arich and Kroctopus's theme was originally intended to be the final boss theme. I wish someone would do a mod of this game with the music swapped...

I do wonder how the levels in Pacifica would've looked in the original SNES version, along with Pacifica's submap... were that the case, though, Sunken Spruce would have to have "Enchanted Riverbank" as its theme due to the water aspect
I will never understand why rare did added or changed sooo much into this version, because whether or not these extras are good, it definitely does’t feel original anymore.

I've always wondered why many of the songs in the gba version are more inappropriate and sound less like David Wise than in the original version, which he didn't compose. Weird.

they changed the music when they ported this
Yeah, for a few reasons.
1) Microsoft had already acquired Rareware by the time this was in development.
2) The original music would have been BUTCHERED on the GBA soundchip, if the first two DKC ports are any indication.
A lot of the new soundtrack is actually pretty good. It's just trapped behind a piss-poor soundchip.

SNES version had only few good music tracks. This sounds much better and is even better game than DKC3 on SNES. Bonus levels in particular, are suberb on GBA.

I remember when I got my GBA
This year I went back to play this game (one of the first I received when I was a child). I got stuck because I never undertood how to make Krematoa appear. Now I did thanks to the internet, but I don't have enough gold coins to proceed in the game (I only did the first two levels). I think I have to play all the levels again and look for the missing gold coins 😢

Wrong. The original SNES was a masterpiece and the atmospheric music fit the levels perfectly. The new upbeat music did not fit the levels as well imo. Butchering the last boss music was a crime. I don't know what they were thinking changing the design of Wrinkley's place and the bears in general. I did like the addition of Pacifica, a few of the new mini games and the extra bear quests. However, this cannot make up for what they did butcher. Was the port a solid and fun game? Absolutely. Does it equal or surpass the masterpiece in the original? Not a chance.
