The words are- "When the cold of Winter comes, Starless night will cover day, In the veiling of the sun, We will walk in bitter rain. But in Dreams,I can hear your name,(And in dreams) And in Dreams we will meet again. When the seas and mountains fall, And we come to end of days, In the dark I hear you call Calling me there, I will go there And back again.
I remember watching this with my dad when it was broadcast to my little branch in the Yukon. For years I have searched for it to see/hear it again. Thank you for uploading.
So grateful to my Father in Heaven for ears to hear beautiful music like this. Grateful for eyes to see the graceful sign language version sung by this beautiful childrens choir. May we all be more thankful for the things we take for granted each day and may we treat each other more gently as Christ did.
"But in Dreams,we will meet again." It's such a beautiful song. Signing can't do it justice, you need the tune, the breathtaking tune. At first look it doesn't make any sence, even in the movie, but after thinking it though,it makes perfect sence. It's an elf singing for a dead mortal. They will never meet again, save In Dreams, until the end of the world. It's a perfect tribute. And I want to cry every time I hear it(Unless it's in the "Concerning Hobbits" setting, then I want to dance...)
Who said that crying when you watch a movie and/or listen to a song is stupid and shows you'r weak, was a fool. I do it all the time because it makes me feel that I can have all the emotions and feelings in the world piled up together in a strange sensation, sadness and happiness all together at once. As for the song..... just BRILLIANT !
I attended this Music and the Spoken Word in April of 2006 and it was truly amazing! I was with a group from our local college in Washington State and I was the only LDS person in the group and it certainly touched the hearts of many. The child, Ryan Tani, was absolutely amazing. He brought me to tears, especially with the "signers" behind him. Thank you for posting this. It has evoked wonderful feelings from actually being there to witness this beautiful performance!
this video had me sitting in silence for several minutes with tears in my eyes. I could feel the music in my heart, and feel it flow through me. I really must say that this arrangement of these two song is the most beautiful thing i have ever heard and i will never forget it. Kbestor, you truly are an inspiration.
I haven't read the comments here for a long time, but having just done so, it seems important to make a few comments. There seems to be much confusion about my song being religious or secular based. Let me clarify. The song is a "prayer" in the most human sense, devoid of dogma and -ology. The message was meant to be universal. I wouldn't want people to miss the message of the lyrics because it didn't match their particular creed. (This is why I have substitute words in the sheet music.)
Kurt, you rock man. Your compositions are incredible and the lessons they teach ring pure and true. Keep up the fantastic work and thank you for what you've given us already.
Beautiful arrangement and what a lovely voice the young man has! I love the sign language addition also. The whole song is just peaceful and awe-inspiring in this world of chaos we live in right now. Thank you for posting this. ♥
This was absolutely beautiful. The kid's voice was great! Just Wow! THe Prayer of the Children is one of my favorite pieces ever, and I hope to be able to sing it again.
Nice! My high school chorus did Prayer of the Children in...I wanna say 2002. We did a lot of amazing songs throughout my time there, but this is one of the most beautiful ever. Awesome.
I remember this performance! I happened to be there that day for the recording. Very moving. The live performance was a deep and profound spiritual experience. Wonderful!
I love this music since I bought the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Showcase cd and hear the song. How amazing would it have been to be there in person watching this? Wow. I applaud everyone.
The translation to the comment below is...:That beautiful recital!! I went to a concert of K.Bestor and this was one of the songs that interpreted, was "HEMOSO" me charm. That pretty!! with the boy and the Chorus of the Tabernacle, most beautiful!!
Why doesn't have this video like a million views, especially worth it. I mean you have videos from people who talk bullshit all the time. If you compare that with this video. it's unbelievable. It's just a piece of heaven!
Kurt- what a stunning blend of arrangements- and what a beautiful way to show case your work in a perfect performance environment- Please keep producing the beautiful music and arrangements!
I just had to add. I remember seeing this on the New Year's Eve Broadcast, and I was shocked when they announced it because it was so...not like the MoTab, but it is GORGEOUS, and chills me everytime I hear it. The men's acappella at my high school sang "Prayer of the Children" for the MLK assembly, right before the African service teams spoke, and it was so touching because of the song and the placement. Had highschoolers in tears.
im not religious at all, nor do i have any philosophy beyond nihilism and im very devout to that idea. That being said, these two pieces, especially side-by-side have brought tears to my eyes on a plethora of occasions. Mr. Bestor if you read this message, I would like you to know that your art has filled me with a wonderful sense of euphoria time and time again
It was in the movie,in the credits right after "May it Be",the part that few people watch. And on most movies, there really isn't much reason to stay/keep the DVD going after the main credit song, but in all of the Lord of the Rings,it's very much worth staying, the music's awesome.
SO POWERFUL! My goodness, was just talking about how much I like LOTR this morning, searched for some good morning music and was blessed by this amazing gem. This is exactly what I imagine heaven sounds like!
wow that was a great arrangement, i am bummed, cuz i am moving to la and will no longer be able to attend your annual christmas concert in utah...keep making life beautiful with ur music :) thanks
These two selections of music are two of the most influential pieces of music that I have ever had the opportunity to hear. Prayer of the Children is absolutely phenomenal, and "In Dreams" was just amazing. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir continues to be a stunning group with outstanding talent. Thank you Mr. Bestor for posting this for the world to see.
Wonderful arrangement and original song. Great performance by MTC under Craig Jessop. Met him at a workshop last year, wonderful musician and person. Also I watched this original broadcast on Music and the Spoken Word. I like live performances compared to studio versions even with " mistakes" More of that energy from the live performance. Great stuff Kurt.
Dear Kurt Bestor, You are amazing. I sang "Prayer of The Children" in high school with the SATB version and I love every second of the song. I would have to say that this song is one of the reasons why I chose to take that long and arduous road to becoming a music teacher. I am graduating in May and I cannot wait to have my choirs sing this song!
This is an exquisite LIVE version. I have heard many groups do this song. My compliments to Kurt Bestor. This is great! I used to listen to "Music & the Spoken Word" every Sunday, until Craig Jessop left. He made the choir into such a marvelous instrument vocally. His sense of line and tone were wonderful! I heard the later performance of "In Dreams" when the boy soprano was slightly older. While technically better ( and he did not sway) the loss of the "choir" signing was rather profound.
Kbestor, we are singing "the prayer of the children" in my highschool and i just want you to know that it has deeply affected me. I am not religious, and for me it still had a wonderful meaning. I really think that it is an astoundingly beautiful piece of music.
This is a great video. The little boy has a wonderful voice. I can only imagine how hard it would be to solo that song in front of so many people! And as always, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sounds amazing. I hope that the music in Heaven is similar, and that i get to go there :D
the universe is infinite. both inward and outward. much in the same way that our tiny parts work in tandem with our consciousness, we are working in tandem for the greater consciousness. the living thing that we are but a tiny part of. what most people feel as god, as this ever present force in the universe that binds and is ever, spiritually vigilent of everything we do, is the universal consciousness of the greater life. just live your lives. we can do nothing more.
Thank you Kurt for your comments. I have worked with children for 22 years who have learning disabilities (the politically correct term) and it angers me to see others who are so hardened and calloused refer to them with such ugly verbage. I stumbled upon this at 3 this morning and have not stopped listening to it since. I shared it with my wife this morning and now she keeps playing and replaying. How absolutely beautiful. Thanks for using the talent you were blessed with to produce this.
While it may be impossible to reach EVERYONE w/ a message of love, hope, and an empathy for all children, it was, at least, my goal. I didn't want just Christians or humanists or [name your philosophy] to claim the song. Since I wrote the song in Utah, I often sing the first two "B sections" using "Crying softly, help me" and then the final one "Crying Jesus..." But, I have more than a few times surveyed the audience and realized that I had Muslims, Jews, etc. and decided to avoid it.
Im here on 2024... coming back to hear this beautiful music !!!!!
Its 2021 and this song still makes me cry 😭 of joy !!!
not alone, I cry all the time 😭
The words are-
"When the cold of Winter comes,
Starless night will cover day,
In the veiling of the sun,
We will walk in bitter rain.
But in Dreams,I can hear your name,(And in dreams)
And in Dreams we will meet again.

Calling me there,
I will go there
And back again.

That's why TH-cam is great. Love the internet.

LOTR FAN FOREVER! TOLKIEN LIVES ON!
THIS IS VERY TOUCHING! MY HEART POUNDS HEALTHIER WHEN THIS MELODIE TOUCHES IT! I FEEL IT IN SPIRIT!
And if this is the sound of heaven, i wanna go there too
Heaven will sound like this, we will all be able to sing like this and it will be amazing to be part of it. Perfection. Pure Perfection.
This is what the world should be about. I'm transported by this in it's simplicity.
I remember hearing this almost everyday on my mission. Brings back so many great memories. I miss those days 🥲
"But in Dreams,we will meet again."
It's such a beautiful song. Signing can't do it justice, you need the tune, the breathtaking tune.

In memory of you today Dad ,till I see you again !

Liberalism is a mental disorder
wat
Where can I find a choral score for this arrangement or other LOTR choral music?
it defenitly is i swear i could listen to this song over and over again and not get tired of it
That's ma little man, reppin' the hood, and tearin' it up.
Absolutely beautiful. You would have to be made of stone to NOT be moved by this.
Must be so mighty for the singer to stand there all by yourself and sing.
He will be famous as an Grown up I hope!
TAB CHOIR!!! Yes. I was there when they did this, and I LOVE this song. It gives me chills every time.
I love the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I can't think of a better group of singers anywhere
i wish i had a personal DJ that would follow me around all day playing this song, it would make my life feel so much more epic
When I was in church watching this I got so excited!! I love this song and the MoTab!
Kurt, you rock man. Your compositions are incredible and the lessons they teach ring pure and true. Keep up the fantastic work and thank you for what you've given us already.
Thanks Chris!
I've performed with the boy at the beginning, He has an amazing voice. Love Kurt's song, best sung in small groups, but amazing with Mo-Tab.
It's a song with an open lyric. It can be adapted at every situation.
Love, death, battle, nostalgia of home, memories.....everything.
I feel so blessed, that i can listen to this. I have a difficult life, but everytime i listen to this music....i smile deep down inside
so nice to hear somthing so pure, it gives me hope for the human race
the first wind instrument instantly brought tears to my eyes...
Absolutely beautiful. The boy did a great job.
Beautiful arrangement and what a lovely voice the young man has! I love the sign language addition also. The whole song is just peaceful and awe-inspiring in this world of chaos we live in right now. Thank you for posting this. ♥
I'm a 21 year old man (so to speak) making loooooots of homework. This music gives me so much rest and relaxation :)
This was absolutely beautiful. The kid's voice was great! Just Wow!
THe Prayer of the Children is one of my favorite pieces ever, and I hope to be able to sing it again.
I LOVE THE Tabernacle Choir. THEY ARE THE BEST EVER!!!!!!!!!!
Lord of the Rings is my favorite movie and to see hear this song is great!! It's beautiful!!
The arrangement is so beautiful, the boy sings so great and the mormon tabernacle choir adds great spirit..
This is absolutely beautiful.
Nice! My high school chorus did Prayer of the Children in...I wanna say 2002. We did a lot of amazing songs throughout my time there, but this is one of the most beautiful ever. Awesome.
BEAUTIFUL! SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL!
What a beautiful moment of music.

We will be performing Prayer of the Children in an Oregon Honor Choir this February. This is such a beautiful song, I can hardly wait.

@Eureka3d ....it is called sign language. This way even the deaf can be touched by the lyrics. Kudos to Kurt....this is an awesome arrangement!
Most beautiful
I love these songs! You guys are amazing. Wish i could have witnessed it with my own eyes.
Wonderful arrangement and original song. Great performance by MTC under Craig Jessop. Met him at a workshop last year, wonderful musician and person. I am not a member anymore, but the MTC is the only thing I miss dearly.
Thanks for posting this Kurt. Ryan now is a wonderful tenor. Very young voice but the same great musicality. Great potential. MCS
I've found this to we one of the most inspirational songs I've ever heard.
Damn! This is crazy good! Awesome.
Incredible sound.
gotta love the purity of a male soprano :) this combines music from my favorite trilogy of all time with my favorite choral piece of all time!
Ez a kisfiú egy csoda nagyon szépen énekel.
oh my gosh. that kid is amazing!!!!!!!!
I remember seeing this at Priesthood meeting for the first time. I'll be honest and confess I remember nothing else from that session.
these two songs are amazing.........i love it!!!!!!!
the young man who sang in dreams and the choir did a wonderful job!!!!!!!
I worked for WordPerfect in the 1980s, and have the CD Innovations with this and so many other beautiful pieces.
so beautiful
Alimenta a Alma e o Espirito pessoal, com este menino cantando e o coral do Tabernaculo o acompanhando, não há como não se emocionar.
I stand all amazed.
Kbestor, we are singing "the prayer of the children" in my highschool and i just want you to know that it has deeply affected me. I am not religious, and for me it still had a wonderful meaning. I really think that it is an astoundingly beautiful piece of music.

man this is the BEST song ive ever heard
this is a really nice arrangement

just live your lives. we can do nothing more.
those hand gestures are so goddamn cheezy!!! awesome music/video/performance. thanks for the up.
Awesome medley! Great post, thank you!
Best thing I've ever heard. Love the lord of the rings, what a good pick for the motab choir.
Thank you Kurt for your comments. I have worked with children for 22 years who have learning disabilities (the politically correct term) and it angers me to see others who are so hardened and calloused refer to them with such ugly verbage.

It's a miracle this arrangement. Magic moment !
Absolutely wonderful.
