When Update Drone Age was first shown off, one of the first tanks we saw was the German VK 3002 (or VK 30.02), which is a prototype for the infamous Panther medium tank. The production model Panther is often described as a quasi-heavy tank since it was quite heavy and had thick frontal armor. The VK 3002 is more in line with what the Panther would be if it was an actual medium. The VK is almost ten metric tons lighter than the Panther, but trades this for worse armor. The armor still isn't bad by any means, but some things will go through it pretty easily, such as the Sherman Firefly. Most importantly, the VK has a battle rating of 5.0, meaning that it absolutely stomps in downtiers. Germany truly does suffer.

@Spookston the AI doesn't struggle with the ground, it struggles with your tank. Select something small like the Pz. 2 H and it'll drive right past it but anything larger seems to be "too close" to the road for the AI to speed past.

The shot @ 0:50 might be him using the default ammo, which has 130mm flat pen and 520g of tnt, effectively enough to overpressure your tank so long as it pens or hits the right area. Add a sprinkling of gaigins magic and that's likely how it killed you the way it did.
Yep its the same way i get a lot of kills with jagtiger when i shoot mantlets of some US tanks shell doesn't go inside the tank on killcam but whole crew gets over pressured
What's the difference between it and the researchable one? I never really looked before I switched out my stock of stock ammo for the researched

It killed him because he damaged the exposed breech, since it counts as an internal component it causes the crew to become vulnerable to overpressure despite no actual armor penetration taking place

I've noticed that first issue on the good ol Jumbo, too. Shots that have no business penetrating going through the absolute thickest part of the mantlet
Yea especially the german 88 loves to overpressure my jumbo.

I've found quite the opposite. Shots that should go thru don't. Actually I've had some really weird stuff happening against the 76mm Sherman's lately, where even tho the mantlet is paper, my German 75mm still bounces off when he's looking right at me within 200m.
@@BIGmlems I've noticed that if you hit the MG ports gun barrel it tends to eat the entire shot sometimes.
Would love to see some Japanese tank gameplay. The Chi-Tos are pretty good and at top tier there’s the mbts with 4 sec reloads and gen 3 thermals on the Type 16s and Type 10(s). I would’ve rather they fixed the type 10s armor then add another one, but oh well.

Ngl I'd rather them add an actual fucking anti air than add the type 10(p) or fix the type 10(s) the amount if times i end up dying in spawn to CAS is just way too much. I love the Type 93 for fun, but as an actual anti air stingers are pain, dont lock on to helis until they're in sneezing range, and you'll never lock a drone at all.
@@speedtrees I just have to put it out there, when I wrote Type 10(s), I meant that because there will soon be 2 Type 10s. Also as for anti air, they really should as there are a few options they can pick. The Type 81, Type 11, and the Chū-MPM. Preferably the Type 81 or Type 11 as the Chū-MPM is mainly anti heli/tank/landing ship.

As others have already suggested, try playing the Japanese tanks with the Type 2 Model 2 Cannon, especially the Chi Nu II and the Chi To tanks. Very fun, much kill.
also, there was no need for the Vk3002 protopanther, it just makes it a total of 5 panthers for a panther line up
Not to mention there are so many vehicles in Germany you need to research like 12 just to get to the next rank. I ground for the Panther A like a mad man, because I wanted to skip over this one.

It's a step in the right direction to fill out that annoying gap in tanks in the middle of the German tech tree.
Prototypes, if used correctly, aren't really all that bad to have. They can be used to fill out such gaps so we have something to tie in with the next, actual production model of that tank. Fighting it, I shoot the front plate with the 76 and I can kill it. Side armor is the same normal panther side armor, the most armored part is the mantlet that says 50, but seems to actually be double that.
And anyone getting mad at the number of panthers should probably take a look at the *hordes* of Shermans.

As a USSR player, I fricking hate how broken the german tree is. Especially around 4.7 -5.5. You see a german tank, aaand your dead. Sure, shoot at it all you want, never ever gonna pen it. Never ever gonna over pressure it. Shit, I swear you could fire the Sturmtiger at a Panther, and it would hit, the Panther would go "Oh, I didn't see you there, thanks for the heads up mate :)". And your dead.

They are a great learning tank for casemate operation. You quickly learn to turn the hull as that's faster then the turret movement.
I miss when the Panther A was the fast panther.
Still the most brawler capable, with that turret traverse speed and mobility, while VK3002 has that garbage hand cranked turret same as Panther D
@@friendlycomradeivan5393 it’s not hand cranked. Just some underpowered electrical motor. Later it’s powered by the engine and wasn’t any faster on idle, unless the driver reved the engine.

@@dreamhaze9123 meeehhhh, the extra armour in the bottom of the turret and the sides of the hull barely adds any relevant protection and without any engine upgrades, it makes the whole thing sluggier and just overall a fat cow that barely maneuvers in tight spaces

When I played it and it was fully stock it's mobility caught me off, it's so fast, it was like I had it fully spaded. Really nice tank overall, had some questionable moments happen but it was a fun experience nonetheless. If you're a fan of WW2 tanks this one will surprise you in many ways.
That thing really shouldnt be 5.0. Light tank mobility with medium tank armor and heavy tank firepower

we kept telling you that your case of getting somewhat similar uptiers/downtiers proportions was really insane. for the rest of us, uptiers are the norm.
i for one has never, and i do mean never, had a single game with Germany ground that wasn't a full uptier

Just LMAO. Everyone gets uptiered everywhere except for 11.0 BR, pal.
The difference is being uptiered into a VK 3002 in a Sherman 75 or T-34-76 is far more brutal than being uptiered into american M41 Walker Bulldogs in the VK 3002 (because there are barely any tanks worth playing at 6.0, much less bully tanks made for stomping lower BRs), and German vehicles are on average undertiered at this BR range meaning their uptiers are mitigated significantly compared to their non-German peers sitting at 0.3 or 0.7 BR higher for equivalent power budgets.
This might get uptiered because of the dense 5.7-6.0 blob of german tanks, basically the game tries to get you with the rest of the nation.
Even in a 5.0-5.3 the panther can be beat by 75-76mm, just you would defeat other 5.x vehicles

@@tomatooole1492 i play other nations as well, and i pointed this out because it only happened to me with the german tree. with other nations, the number of uptiers/ downtiers is balanaced.

you should try the bredda 501 it has a good amount of pen and the aphe stock round can 1 shot an Abrams from the side
Man I still remember the few months before this was in game. I was a new player at that time and I had to pair my Tiger H1 with my Pz 4 H and F2 to fill up my lineup before I got the Panther D.
This thing is so frustrating to fight against. I've found that I can't even pen the front plate, straight on, with a shell that has ~150mm of pen (500 meters, 30° angle) like, even in an uptier this thing is wild.
They're phenomenal at spawn camping not even 3 minutes into a Ground RB match, as I've fallen victim to that many times. I get out of spawn, reach a shooting position and then one of these is already behind our entire team. I can't imagine having to face this at 4.0, that's absolutely ridiculous. Yeah it's armor is a lot thinner, but it sure as hell doesn't behave that way.

just... shoot the muzzle brake. It'll destroy the barrel instantly with like anything. Then shoot the mantlet because he has no turret traverse
@@cldus7442 easier said than done, if you slightly miss the tip and hit the barrel from the side it wouldnt do any damage.
0:44 the new overpressure mechanics really need just removed. I have a clip of me in a m60 bouncing a heat shell off of the side of the hull at a really high angle and the heat shell from a 105 on this German m48 overpressured me aulthough it litterally bounced off and hit the ground about 80 feet away. it wasnt even from the concussion forces of the shell like it litterly killed the tank with overpressure from 80 feet

The Panther is an medium tank under Wehrmacht doctrine. Gun caliber not armor determined what the tank would be considered. A 75mm main gun made it a medium, only the Allies used armor thickness to determine classification.
That background music takes me back. It’s from Command & Conquer Generals back in 2003… I feel old.
The hangar AI struggles in that area because during winter event they changed hangar. In that area where they struggle, there was narrowing caused by snow piles and tanks always slowed down and had to pathfind way through it. I think they changed hangar but actually never touched AI and pathfinding, meaning hangar looks like summer one but AI acts like its winter hangar. Also this has never happened before that event so im pretty sure thats the cause.

I play the Chi-nu II instead. The chi-ri can be fun but it's just so slow and such a big target.

hey spooks, huge fan! could you try out the panther F sometime? i recently unlocked it and its stupidly good for sniping because it has a rangefinder. It also has pretty decent frontal armor for brawling. i get a lot of 5-6 kills games with it and im only level 26, so you should have a field day with it.

imo the VK just looks like a so much more slick and clean design too, i know the sideskirts can be useful for the panther but for looks it just seems cleaner without them

The best part? There basically aren't any guns that fall right between the armor layout of prototype and production Panthers on any real combat ranges. Meaning that it's not penetrated or penetrated by the same guns in same situations. In return you have lower BR, no need to wait for top round and better mobility(well, speed. Reverse gears are still absent).
This is the Panther before Mr. Moustachio messed with it.

Twenty first video asking for the Spj fm/43-44, it has a 15 sec reload, and fires 8kg TNT equivalent HE shells, while at br 1.7.
I'm so glad I'm out of 5.0 Japan, the Chi-Ri's reload is beautiful but good god is it hell trying to not get breathed on and die.

Coming across a KV220 is an absolute pain in the arse.
Most of the issues with the Panther were because of the added armor post the development of the MAN prototype. Everything in the tank was designed for that weight, from the engine to the transmission, final drive and the tracks.
Ridiculously enough though, the side and rear armor still wouldn't fully protect from the PTRS 41 anti tank rifle at under 100m, so they added side skirts to the unangled portions, and then increased it on later panthers (more weight).
Another reason why im biased towards the Damiler Benz prototype.
As a German main I feel for ya with that team, playing your worst match ever and still being on top is interesting
