I was overweight for a long time, no friends. I lost all excess weight in 3 1/2 months in 2020 and fell in love with cycling. I've since met some other guys into it too - I organized a five day trip to France to do the major climbs (Mt. Ventoux, Alpe de Huez etc.) and 3 others are going with me! I'm saying yes to so many things these days, I'm a completely new person :D

Hi Katie! I'm doing a mini adventure tomorrow morning. I live in Clearwater Florida. I'm riding across to the east coast, south for a while, than west back home. I planned this route to be 400 miles. I'm doing this ride nonstop except for bathroom and food breaks. This time last year, I attempted a similar ride of 400 miles but different route. I made it to 330 miles, but got caught unprepared when the temperature dropped to 45F when I was 70 miles from home. The only clothing I brought was my lycra and a rain coat. It usually doesn't get that cold in Florida in April. Last October around my birthday, I am 54 years old. I rode to the Georgia border and back 515 miles with only 6 hours sleep. I decided to do these rides because your long ride videos motivated me. I have been a whole food plant based Vegan for almost 8 years and was highly influenced by Durianrider, whom I learned to spin to win and ended finding my life's passion which is riding my bike. In these 8 years I have ridden over 62000 miles and lost close to a 100 lbs. I am 175 lbs. thank you for all your videos. Your passion and kind heart motivates me . Tell Francis Cade and Lou I said hello. Big fan of their videos also.

Hi Katie. My best adventure (although not that mini), was a moment of madness in 2016 when I decided to buy an out of season bargain touring bike, a couple of panniers and do "My House to the Med". 1160 km from Berkshire to the Mediterranean! I can still remember the feeling of arriving on the beach in the South of France! A wonderful trip! I have been hooked on touring ever since.

I am convinced you need to be a travel agent that caters to cyclist. Love being able to watch these videos while I'm at lunch stuck at work. I enjoy being able to see these areas of the world open to cycling that are outside of my local bubble. Keep up the good work and keep on rolling.

Your recovery is phenomenal to be able to do multi day climbs of that magnitude. Pro level rider. I live in Colorado,US and all my rides are climb rides ( not as major as your rides these past weeks) and after a few days my legs are sore and need a rest day. Thanks for the continued inspiration.

Couldn’t agree more about going on bike adventures. I went on one yesterday to visit the highest points in Essex and Cambridgeshire and then the tri point of Essex, Cambs and Herts (which was at the bottom of a waterlogged field, which led to some CX style riding on our skinny tyred road bikes!😂).
The ride wasn’t difficult at all but it was absolutely pouring down, the wind was howling, we were cold and we were wet through but we all just kept looking at each other saying ‘what are we doing?’ ….with massive smiles on our faces!
That’s what cycling is all about for me. Getting out with your mates and just enjoying whatever weather and conditions are thrown at you and loving the freedom this crazy hobby gives you.
Growing old is inevitable, growing up is a choice.

Hi Katie, I'm not a great climbing fan as I find it quite hard to drag my 100kg uphill! But that climb looks amazing 🤩 so peaceful, the greenery and birds singing, the perfect place to get away from all our troubles.
Sometimes (or most of the time) we become obsessed with the numbers and forget about how free it feels to be cycling somewhere just for the pure enjoyment, taking in the sights and smells. Once again you are such an inspiration and I think many of us appreciate seeing your happy smiley face, it's amazing how much a smile can brighten up your day ❤😊

Someone else mentioned that every ride is an adventure. I feel that way, as well. In the summer of 2019 I started riding again after a 30+ year hiatus. As of this past weekend I’ve ridden just shy of 5k miles.
My adventure is scheduled for the 14th of April. I’m going to take a vacation day and ride for my 60th birthday. Since my longest two rides to date have been right around 59 miles, I decided that a 60-mile ride for the 60th birthday would be perfect. As I thought about other goals/milestones I realized the next one would be a metric century ride. So, the adventure for my birthday is going to be a 62+ mile ride to take care of both of those goals. The route is planned, I have a new carbon gravel bike (to replace the hardtail XC bike I’d been riding), so all I need is for Mother Nature to warm up the temps and turn down the winds a bit.

The best I’ve done (and am doing again in June) is Newhaven - Dieppe ferry. Base yourself in Dieppe and cycle out for day trips, returning to Dieppe for dinner in one of the local lovely restaurants. Nothing beats it 😊

You are so inspiring Katie. Love your style & positivity! I found you via Francis Cade, can't recall how I stumbled across him (put that down to age :-) ). I started cycling again last year after many many many years, never was more than a recreational cyclist. My wee adventure this year is I plan to cycle from our home in West Lothian to our daughter's In Perth. It's about 45 miles which will be my furtherest trip by far with a few 'inclines' along the way - nothing to you guys but a big deal for me on my heavy, almost 30yr old Marin mtb, now with hybrid tyres. I know, not ideal but I'll maybe get round to investing in a this century model sometime soon. So.... a few trips required to suss out a route & to see if my aging leggies will cope. My 60th birthday/retirement challenge!

Every ride is a little adventure for me. Wednesday is the next one, probably about 60km. Slowly but steadily getting back into riding outside building towards 100 to 150 km rides by this summer.

Hi Katie, I try to get to GC every year if I can, love it there. I hire bikes from Freemotion in Maspolomas but have only done the loop to Ayagaures, up 'death hill' which almost did me in. However, I have a mini adventure close to home in Plymouth where I cross the river Tamar by car ferry and back to Plymouth across the passenger only, Cremyll ferry. I head over to Torpoint in Cornwall, then to the 3 mile long cliffs which overlook the beautiful golden sands of Whitsand Bay (a great surfing beach too) Rame Head is at the far end of the cliffs which has views across Plymouth Sound and all the way down the south Cornish coastline in the other direction. Then it's down to the old, quaint twin fishing villages of Cawsand and Kingsand where you can sit and eat ice cream on the beach, then it's back to the passenger ferry at Cremyll where you pass the beautiful gardens of Mount Edgcumbe. The ferry journey is always stunning, especially in the evening sunshine as the river turns golden. Its a great bike ride and as its mostly in Cornwall, there's not many flat bits!

Can’t top a ride that includes springtime sunshine, bird song and a boat trip … perfect, ta very much! A couple of my favourite local rides include ferry crossings. Can’t wait to start riding outdoors hopefully within a couple of weeks or so. I think a fun adventure for me this year would be to bring the bike along with my little sailboat on a driving holiday to the Canadian Maritime provinces. It’s been too long since I was at the seaside!

Truly inspirational, thank you again Katie. Cycled for the first time in Fuerteventura a month ago, talk about living the dream. There's a super climb up to Moro Velosa and then down into the old capital of the island, Betancuria. I've only driven it but maybe one day my old 68 year old legs will get me up there. In the meantime the hills in County Sligo will keep me entertained. What about the West of Ireland for a road trip. You won't be disappointed 🎉

Love an adventure, on the whole I do tend to be a last minute person. But I do have quite a simple adventure planned for this summer. I plan to ride from home to Oxford to Cambridge then home. I believe it is approx 100 miles each section to form a triangle. I like it because its not a well established trip like a c2c and the two cities are bike friendly and should be great places to spend the night. I plan to do it over 3 days.

Buenos dias, buenas tardes, y buenas noches Katie! Like so many who comment on your videos you are pretty inspiring. Our two kids have finally left the house this past year so wife and I are doing several adventures, albeit from what I see on TH-cam very relaxing ones. In May we ride from Chicago to New Buffalo (Le Tour de Shore 2-day century) and in July we have RAGBRAI 50. We've been planning for years but looks like nothing is holding us back now and finally registered. Really looking forward as it's 500 miles this year. Puerto Rico has a ride around the island "La Vuelta" in 3 days in February so hoping we really get our groove on with these long distance rides and make the jump to that ride.... Keep up the encouraging videos as they really help break up the thoughts of things being too hard or too out of reach. just keep pedaling!!!

Mini adventures are the best! No matter how mini. Yesterday I was lost, wondering where I could ride to today (day off) then stumbled upon a really promising quiet route to Whaley Bridge (and back) from my home and the bee was in my bonnet! Rode it on my mountain bike today in sunshine...! a glimpse of spring, (finally), I had a swallow swooping in front of me, two honking Canadian geese flew across my path overhead, saw the cutest, tiniest skinny lambs in jackets, saw my first bumblebee this year.. it's the most elevation I've ever climbed in one ride too which added to the challenge/reward. I'm pooped now, but that's OK as it's good pooped. I like being good pooped 😂 roll on the next one.

  • @davidfoster4212
    @davidfoster4212 ปีที่แล้ว

Well here in Ottawa, Canada the Spring seems quite reluctant to find us, so my wife and I are headed south to Kentucky and Virginia to find wherever Spring has been hiding out! Plan to ride some rail trails on our gravel bikes to begin the 2023 season. We love your videos, your enthusiasm and marvel at your hill climbing stamina! Crack on!

Mini, mini adventure commences tomorrow! Going for a 55km ride around west Norfolk with my brother and a friend. Barely qualifies but if the weather is good it should be a lovely day with plenty of chat and refreshment stops on the route - just nice to get out the house and hopefully into the sunshine! Bigger goals; lands end to John o groats but some ways to go working on fitness and endurance before I can take that on.. good to have a goal tho right?!

I went to Gran Canaria a couple of years ago but stayed in Las Palmas so I wasn't able to do the climbs in the south. I also went to Mallorca last October and (of course) did Sa Calobra but the Serenity Climb looks even better (with less traffic!). The earlier Valley of the Tears video was equally awesome, so I'm adding a return to Gran Canaria to my bucket list :-) Like Katie, I've also been to Lanzarote, which was for me the best cycling destination of them all. The climbs aren't particularly difficult (especially with an ebike 😆) but the scenery is awesome and incredibly varied.

Be safe out there guys!!! A bad accident today on Mottram Road near the M67. As far as I know I looked like a cyclist under a car. Fire and Police trying to lift the car up off the bike or bike and rider. I pray it was just the bike and not the poor person on the bike? I drive a bloody big truck and always give you guys space as I cycle, but I cycle on bike paths and not the roads. Look after yourselves and be SAFE!!!🙏
