While the beaver commentary amuses me (I’m a Canuck after all), what I really enjoyed was the classical music instead of the constant chatter some other TH-camrs employ. Thanks for that! Great looking bowl, nice tips, well done!
@@OurFrenchHouseRenovation I've seen some that make a jig and use a router with a flush trim bit. Seems like a quick method but might limit the yarn bowl shape.
Awesome bowl Hodgey, that grain, colours and wood is great. I only found out yesterday what sweet gum is (well, the stuff that you call it). Thanks for sharing. Keep on turning. Cheers, Bluey 👍
Thanks Bluey! It's been one of my favorite woods to turn just because of it's beauty. Wish it wasn't so prone to cracking though. Thanks again for watching!
Hi Hodge, sorry I missed the live but what a great piece. As result of sharing the same name, I believe that I have responded to some of the greetings intended for you when we watch other demos. Sorry about that.
Great idea, Beautiful bowl! I guess I'm destined to attempt one for someone I know who uses a lot of yarn. Sweet gum is a nuisance tree here and I have several that need cut down. I did not realize it had such pretty grain inside. Chain saw time!
A nice bowl also the wood you have used and the side cut that you have created surely this not to be used as a fruit bowl I like it. Cu in next demo and take care of Harry bye till than bye 👋
Funny story...at work, back when I went into the office pre-COVID we have these Folger's prepacked filters which we use. I'd say the office uses 6-7 of these in a day. I have some other ideas I'd like to try with coffee grounds in the future but it requires lots of it, so I would take the used filters secretively to my office and then take home, spread out on newspaper, and dry outside in the sunlight. I've probably got about half a gallons worth at the moment. It would be way easier just going and buying a few big cans of it but I suppose I'm trying to be thrifty!
That came out very nice. Question on the poly finish - spray versus wipe on with the lathe ate the slowest setting? Any difference? Why do you use the spray vs the wipe on?
I noticed you took Harry's mic away when he was watching you spray that lacquer and didn't have a mask.. I expect his language got pretty colorful the more he inhaled the fumes.

Beautiful looking Yarn bowl, thanks for sharing
Thanks Grahame! I was happy with it being my first. Need to figure out some better methods of carving out the groove though.
@@HodgePodgeWoodWorks most others I’ve seen, have done it the same way as you... cheers

Robert, no problem with the greetings. I basically respond anytime I see a Robert! There seems to be quite a few of us lurking around in the lives.
Looks really nice, Robert! Love the grain in that sweet gum!
You and me both Billy!
Grieg's Morning to start 👍👍
I felt it was a nice touch!
Hodge you have a lot of talent really enjoyed your demonstration
Thank you so much Leroy! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Yeah, it's a beautiful wood! It can tend to crack though while drying even with the pith removed but that can can always be filled.
Nice work 👍
Glad you think so, and thanks for watching!
such a nice piece!! sorry I missed the premier
No biggie Luie! Thanks for watching!

Thanks Laurence it was my first try at making a yarn bowl so I hadn't found a good way to cut out the loop yet!
Oh man, I missed the premiere. Was sorting kids for bed. Love the wood, great choice.
Dang kids always getting in the way...😉 Thanks for the kind words!
Very nice Hodge 😁👍🏼👏
Thanks Japie
Buen trabajo amigo, definitivamente el mundo del torneado es infinito... lo felicito
¡Gracias Edwin! Me alegra que pudieras asistir al estreno.
darn it only missed it by that much. That Harry sure knows how to pick his wood.
Ruben, he would take everybody's wood if I let him!
Very nice
Thank you very much ED!
I Need 1of those did u hear that ruben 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
Haha, sorry Ruben!
Fantastic! Can I ask if you used coffee grounds or instant? What a beautiful and inexpensive way to fill cracks!

Love the grain and the bowl. What are the two small holes for?
Thanks Jean! The two holes are to stick your knitting needles.
That came out very nice. Question on the poly finish - spray versus wipe on with the lathe ate the slowest setting? Any difference? Why do you use the spray vs the wipe on?
Well, I'm using spray just cause the can is almost empty! But after that I've got the wipe on lacquer to use.
HodgePodge WoodWorks - well, that’s as good a reason as any
Very nice!! What bit did you use on your Dremel? Straight or round end ?
What was that tool you used to cut into the swirl on the side of the bowl?
The bulk was removed with one of those oscillating tools and the rest was with my Foredom rotary tool with various bits.
I noticed you took Harry's mic away when he was watching you spray that lacquer and didn't have a mask.. I expect his language got pretty colorful the more he inhaled the fumes.
