Hello Hoppers! Today I am showing you how to get around in Santiago de Compostela (Galicia, Spain), the final destination of El Camino (Camino de Santiago or The Way of Saint James). For hundreds of years, people have been coming here for religious reasons, on pilgrimages to the place where the body of the Apostle Santiago (or St James, in English) is buried. More recently Santiago has become a very popular tourist attraction for people who want to walk the Camino to clear their heads, to test their physical abilities, to get away from their hectic lives, or to simply connect with nature. Santiago is rich in culture, cuisine, history, architecture, Galician craftsmanship, etc. Santiago de Compostela is a special place in my heart, as I was born not that far from here. I hope you enjoy it! xoxo

Thank you so much for your video. I walked into Santiago with 12 terrific people in late September, having completed the final 118km of the Portuguese way for an Irish charity. I didn't have a smart phone and I'm grateful that you recorded the places I saw that day, where we stopped for rests and where we stayed in a hotel that was previously a seminary. I'm going back in June 2018 with another Irish charity to walk the final 111km of the French way. I wish everyone undertaking the Camino the very best.

Ohhh wow, that is great what you have told me. Glad you got to see the places you visited. I truly admire people who do El Camino. I know several, and it is not easy, but everybody says, it is an amazing experience. I congratulate you for doing 118 km and for going back next year!! That is great!! Thanks for watching my channel and for commenting! Buen Camino!!!

I've walked in four times (1994, 1995, 2003 and 2015.) Always wish I knew the airport bus stopped at Plaza de Galicia, although the train station might be easier to get to from the albergue.

If you want to go shopping at the old town It is better to go to calderería street instead of franco street. There are also lot of cool cafés with tapas in Pescadería Vella square, better to avoid turistic places.
Don't forget to visit Galician People's museum and cathedral museum. It is also cool to visit Bonaval park, Abastos market (fresh food and gourmet cafés) or Cidade da Cultura (a giant set of new buildings with museums, library, views and parks).
    Regards from Santiago!

Love your video, thank you so much! Do you have any suggestion on what else to do in Santiago? Cities to visit around?

Glad you liked it! Thanks. There is soooo much to see in Galicia! Two of my favorite spots are Playa de las Catedrales (in Ribadeo, I have several videos of this beach) and Ribeira Sacra (in Lugo and Orense). They are both amazing, but you need a car or take a tour. They are both about 2 hours from Santiago, one is north and the other south. Then close by there is A Coruña (the Crystal City), all the Rías are beautiful (loads of little fishing villages, good food), Lugo (2000- year-old walled city), Orense with its spas and hot springs. Then, visiting a Castro would be very cool. The castro at Santa Tecla is high up on a mountain, at the border with Portugal. Another very cool castro is El Castro de Baroña, by a beach. Then, there is always Finisterre, what was thought to be the End of the Earth, and also the final stop of El Camino. It all depends on what you are into. Also, in the summer there are great food festivals, with music, arts and crafts, medieval fairs, etc. Loads to do. Hope this helps!
