I was born in Lydney Hospital in the early seventies and spent a lot of my childhood in Bathurst Park and the boating lake - I can even remember when they had boats on there. 😁
Hi Patrick, lovely town, nice you went back after so many years. What an interesting history it's got, the Beatles playing in the Town Hall, fantastic. I remember a sprung wooden floor in a disco I was at years ago, so that rang a bell when you mentioned it. Great to see the old pub after so many are closing. Love the standing art stones & boating lake. Wonderful film from start to finish, thanks.

Lydney has some good old community buildings with grand architecture, Patrick. I'm impressed particularly by the old Severn and Wye Valley headquarters building still in existence. Lydney Harbour looks a very nice place to visit, right next to the River Severn. The standing stones are most unusual with the lettering engraved within. When you waited at the Lydney railway crossing the train would have been the Nottingham to Cardiff Central service operated by Cross Country, which only stop at major stations. Bathurst Park is a lovely place for some relaxation, I would think. Many thanks for sharing us this lovely video, Patrick, it's been most enjoyable. Take care.
Yes there is quite a mixture of architecture in Lydney, and it's great that a "town trail" has been created, the information from which I was reading from my phone. The harbour has certainly been "tarted up" in more recent years, so it's looking great now. Those stones were impressive weren't they. The railway through Lydney will indeed run as you say, and I think there are (or certainly were at one time) more local journeys that stop at all the stations between Gloucester and Cardiff. I liked Bathurst park, not sure if I ever went there in the past. Thanks as always Ffranc for watching 👍

Hello Patrick , great video very nice in and around Lydney I think its a place that often gets over looked, I had a friend that worked on the Bledisloe Estate he was in charge of the pig farm , and the Bathurst name must be connected to Eastnor Castle the family there were the Harvey Bathhurst . Thanks Patrick we really have enjoyed see the old homeland area.
I've not heard of Sydney Harbour or Bathurst Park, so that was new to me, and certainly a bit of history attached. Nice to learn about new areas from Forest of Dean. What a captivating rhythmic instrumental to accompany your film. really enjoyed this style. Have good weekend Patrick.

Such lovely old buildings they used to construct. Sadly now the ones surrounding them are slap dash and some of our 1970s constructions are hideous. Such a plethora of different things in lydley. Beautiful waterway. A man-made lake and the lovely Bathurst park at the end. There were plenty of people out enjoying the weather. Always nice to have a church visit thrown in too. It was quite a large one and open to boot. I'm lucky to live five minutes away from a marina. I love seeing the boats. So, you were nearly born there. Not a bad place actually but you cannot beat Gloucester Cathedral to call your own. Fabulous as always. Cheers Patrick 😁
I agree Kelly, many of those 1970s buildings are horrible to look at and it's kind of strange seeing such a mixture of architecture. It was interesting to find a "Lydney Town Trail" online, which was the information I was reading off my phone in this. Nice that you live near a marina. Certainly the harbour at Lydney has been made more visitor-friendly, so it's great there's a little cafe there too to encourage more visitors. That church was great wasn't it, nice to have gone inside that one. I don't really remember Bathurst park,s o nto even sure if I've ever visited it before, so it was nice to feature it in this. My parents lived in a vilage close to Lydney when I was born (featured next time), but I was very glad to know that Gloucester was my place of birth. I enjoy your films and hence so pleased you have covered my home town of Lydney. Last time I was there the harbour gates were jammed and St Mary’s footbridge was in a sad state. Pleased to therefore see both have been refurbished. Even the pond in Bathurst Park has been tidied up. Great work!
Enjoyed Lydney Patrick. 180 - 140 turnout for the chapel. You wouldn't get that today. Just quick - good seeing the docks - fairly large craft there. Yeah, coal diminished or stiff competition. There is much local opposition to the expensive 'health and safety' fencing restrictions at Lydney Harbour, The dangers such as the long drop above the harbour and pier are obvious. I disagree with you Patrick as to the necessity of the fencing. My view is that children should be educated about dangers not barred from accessing places that have interest but might have dangers. What next? Fencing off mountains like Snowdon. I purposely ignored the fencing and walked on the pier. I wish more people would stand up for their rights, P.S. There are other very large stones near the harbour. Their use may not be obvious at first but look through the small holes in the rocks to see places of interest highlighted.
