A Rough Start To Van Life in Ireland (ft. Camper Vibe)

- Our road trip of Ireland didn't go quite as planned!! Luckily it began strong with a trip down to visit Em and Lou from @campervibe we were put to work on their beautiful Irish cottage, but when the time came to hit the road, our van started giving us grief again! Very reminiscent of our troubles in Scotland and one of the big reasons we abandoned the van in Ireland for six months and flew to Australia, sadly it seems Martha is back at it again!!

We are Philly and Keely and we live full time in our tiny home on wheels Martha. After building our DIY home in a Citroen Relay camper we spent a year living on the streets of London before quitting our jobs only to be met with lockdown. Then we took our van further than she had ever been before to the very beautiful Turkey. Enroute, we stopped off in Spain for a few weeks where we experienced every van lifers worst nightmare, we were robbed and they stole all valuables in our van. But then we were back on our feet, fully MOT’d and back on the road through Europe before we experienced another vanlife nightmare... our van caught fire!! After the trauma of that we had a massive change of plan and made our way to Japan. We enjoyed a three-month Japanese Adventure and then got back to Martha for some new European Adventures. After an incredible three-month Scottish road trip, we packed up our van and headed to Australia for a new van life adventure! Here we bought and built our new van in only 30 days and then took him deep into the Australian outback and beyond!

@phillyandkeely remember if yous are in Fife just across from Edinburgh visit St Andrews and also the hills in Falkland. There's plenty hillside to see yous guys will love it and there's car park there before the walk also. I did all the 3 hills back in college. Took like 5 hours lol but yous can do 1 that won't take yous long. Was going to say yous need to visit Anstruther famous chippy too but I don't think they do vegan food. The town itself is lovely little seaside village yous will enjoy

Hiya kiddos!! Good to see you visiting friends and helping them out. I’d love to see you get a little property where you can plant things and watch them grow 🏡. Poor Marth! She’s got female problems in there 😢. I hope she is finally sorted out. Your sandwiches looked gourmet! I love hummus on a sandwich! The green nature you get to experience daily makes me jealous! I live in a desert 🌵. The only green here is what we pay for water 💦 to keep green. Don’t get me wrong… I appreciate the unique landscape and animals in the desert but the green is just so lush and beautiful! Plus it gets HOT 🥵 here! It’s consistently 38c° and higher in the summer. In the winter 🥶 we have below freezing and can get snow ❄️. I’d love to live somewhere else just for a few years to try it out. Safe travels! Take care of each other 🫶🏼. 🌴 Oh and I love you crocs! I still have mine from the original round back in around 2008 😁

I think it was some air flow sensor or something, it wasn't taking in the right amount of air for combustion?? Whatever he did it is working so far 🤞🤞 but we have done ALOT of stuff that looks like it has fixed this van I'm the past haha, she tends to turn it off and on at random. I think it was all threw out of wack from long time ago when we had a split air pipe in Romania when our van caught fire, the throttle hasn't been right since then randomly cuts out, but hopefully it's fixed now, only time will tell

We think so, something to do with air pressure? 😂 Only time will tell, we've thought she was fixed many times before
G' Day. The acceleration problem seems to be a common fault on those van's.
Would have liked have seen more coverage of the fault diagnosis on tn the scan tool etc.
What was replaced to repair the fault.

Was weird ( in a nice way!) t see you meeting up with another couple I've been following f years...I also been following " It's a Skye life" since they started...n their other posts ( prior t skye) so if you get that far on your Scottish adventure I think you're sure t hit it of too! Not forgetting " kinging- it" either,of course! It's like watching honorary " neices n nephews" meeting up f a "play date" 😂

All you need is a destination and however long it takes you to get there is of no real concern when you're doing van life. It's all about the stops along the way and taking your time to smell the roses or hang out for awhile with friends. Are you on a teaching break Keely or still working? Looking forward to seeing Scotland again and what happens a long the way. Safe Travels! I miss the hat Philly🤠.
Still teach once a week, but that will stop soon for summer, now I've started my examiner work for summer time ❤️

Any chance you’ll be in Scotland in September? I would love to buy you a coffee or dinner near Balloch. Visiting from early September to early October from what is currently the hottest state n the US-Arizona 113 degrees. I love air conditioning.
In September we will be in France as we have a family commitment there so gonna take the van over I reckon. I'm currently trying to convince Philly to go to Amercia after haha, is Arizona bearable heat in autumn/winter?

I have a caddy maxi which is an ex British Gas van. It has a bunch of extra safety features in it because it was a British Gas van. One of those features was an “anti-theft” mechanism or something like that that meant when I tried to accelerate it kept not working and ended up slowing down and telling me to go down gears. I was stuck doing 30 on a motorway a couple times and had to pull over. Got breakdown to take me to garage and they said that it was the mechanism tripping when it shouldn’t so they just removed the mechanism and it hasn’t happened since. Maybe yours has something like that on it if your having issues accelerating🤔
