I fished the flood about 200 yards closer to Portland on the same day, can’t have missed you by much!! I went specifically targeting bream and the flood was tough too, even the last bit in darkness. I had enough to keep me entertained but was hard work, even the bigger bream were only really interested in the small baits and very small hooks, I ended up dropping right down to size 4 fine wire and 6’s!
Tight lines mate all the best 👍🏻

It was hard fishing but a stunning day so can’t really complain. If you were the next set of anglers down we watched you pull in a few fish. 🎣👍🏻

The 4 degree start was a rude awakening but the sun did make an appearance.

I didn’t cover it very well but I lost 2 rigs during the session and recovered both with the last cast. 😲

Always a pleasure to watch, fish or no fish! Wouldn't fancy Chesil this weekend!

It looks very grim and I had the opportunity for a long distance road trip.
I’ll stick to workshop preparations this weekend I think and maybe fire up the log burner. 🔥

Ha, after my ending comments on your last vid we were on the same beach Sunday. I was at Abbotsbury. No Black Bream for me as for some reason I didn't try for them? but Undulates, Codling and a few Whiting kept me going. What a day though!!

    • @seaangling
      @seaangling  ปีที่แล้ว

Undulates seem few and far between this year for some reason?

Hi Mark, great video, lucky with the weather. Could we have you make a video for your loop rig mate?

Hi, there is a loop rig on the channel and is a full workshop making. 👍🏻

There’s a Cod competition on at Chesil this Saturday. Will judge my next trip on how busy the Facebook group is on Sunday lol

Quite often it’s too late by the time the catch reports come out, what was there is long gone!!

Hi Mark, interesting your choice of Fathom II Star Drag 12's, I have 2 4&Baits which really suit my style of fishing ( I have a Penn Mag4 6oz mixed ground rod if i need to cast 5-6ozs, which i chose over the 6& Bait because it was thinner, lighter and had better bite detection) i use a 525 Mag 4 & an old ABU 6500, but have been considering a pair of Fathom 12's for the 4 & Baits which i think would work well. How are you finding them, now you have had a good chance to test them. Its difficult online to get a real idea of size comparision between the 12's and 15's so any initial thoughts really be appreciated. Hugh

Hi Hugh, it is an interesting subject and one I am learning quickly. The reduction in frame/spool size coupled with 14lb line has seen big benefits in distance, less drag/weed and no real detriments. I found that by switching down in reel size, selecting 14lb mainline and going down one selection in tapered shock leader everything reduced in effort for better performance. This sounds obvious but I thought I was going to start losing rigs but that hasn’t been the case. A subtle change in shock leader connection and it has all been beneficial. 15’s fully loaded take more to get going and longer to stop transferring that gained and lost inertia. There are times when 15’s loaded with 20lb main line is the preference but for my “normal” clean ground fishing I now use the 12’s.

I have fished the same rods with one having 20lb/15’s and one rod with 14lb/12’s. The difference is significant.
I think 12’s will suit your 4&B’s very well and maybe 12-14lb line for the 4oz weights.

@@seaangling Mark, very kind to respond so quickly, its always difficult to get unbias opinions so thank you. Ive been leaning towards the 12's and your finding have really helped, so might be making a purchase real soon. Happy Fishing and enjoy your Norway trip.

We are definitely in the limbo season summer and winter species.

They can’t all be red letter days unless I delete the lesser ones. Some still like to see them despite the trials and tribulations.
