  • The first class MY locomotives began their service with the Danish State Railways (DSB) in February 1954. The locomotives were based on the American GM EMD F7 design and built under license by the Swedish company NOHAB in Trollhättan. The diesel-electric locomotives were constructed around the 16 Cylinder GM 567 engine. A total of 59 units were delivered to the DSB. Initially the locomotives didn’t have their individual numbers painted on the front so in this video I remove the lettering to make the loco fit my particular period - the mid-1950's. The class MY was very versatile and used to haul both express passenger- and heavy freight trains all over the country. They proved very reliable and well suited for their tasks and the locomotives quickly became popular among both their crews and the general public. Similar NOHAB locomotives were later supplied to Norway, Belgium, Luxemburg and Hungary. The last ordinary MY-hauled DSB-train ran in 2001. After being made redundant at DSB a number of the engines were sold of second hand to private operates in Denmark, Sweden and Germany. Quite a few MY locomotives have been preserved including MY 1101 in the original maroon livery and MY 1159 in the later red/black paint scheme. Both are kept in running order by the museum branch of DSB. The Heljan model was originally released in the year 2000 and was very positively received by the Danish model railway community. The model is close to the original and has good running characteristics. New Heljan versions are in production on a regular basis, however, my models are quite old by now, and needed an update. Especially the old micro light bulbs needed to be changed to SMD LED's. More pictures can be found in the original Danish language article on my blog: wordpress.com/....

Thanks! Yes, the “round noses” really became the poster boys for the State railways for a generation 🇩🇰😊

Absolutely beautiful handiwork! The MY is an epic loco.

Nice job, although I like the recent Trix model a lot better. Diecast body, 21 pin decoder that allows the lights to be switched on and off seperately, sound... still, you did a nice job on the engine.

Hi Tom, glad you liked the video - if not the Heljan model 😉 There are several class MY models on the market, each has its strongpoints. I only know the Trix model from pictures etc. but understand that it is a good runner. What I like about the Heljan models is their “early years look”.

Ah great job ! This is The Danish diesel number one ! Looks so good, but if a may , i myself would like some more traces from diesel fumes, otherwise its perfect ! Thanks !

Thanks! Who would have thought they were actually made in Sweden 😉 I went easy on the weathering since the class MY was brand new in my chosen time period - but maybe I could add a little more around the exhaust on the roof.

Sundborg MJ no keep it like that. Maybe you could do it if you ever buy a my in the simplied paint scheme red and black. Yes a swedish loco with gm motors. Love that sound... have a nice weekend !

I like the red/black livery, but it’s not my era of choice. Yes, the deep thunder of the EMD 567 diesel is quite something! Nice WE to you too.
