Kirsten was being interviewed after they won the Sing Off. She was teary eyed and the interviewer asked why she was crying. Kirsten answered by saying they were happy tears because now the world would get to hear Mitch sing. Scott is often found looking at his band mates during a performance and just smiling like a proud Papa.
The "Seasons of Love" performance for PBS really showed Kirstie and Scott sort of trading smiles at each other for their solos - it was really touching!
@@Badger77722 I was going to say this, this is probably the most obvious example of this, but there are so many times in the live performances where one or two of the trio will give the other that smile either before or after, or both for a solo. That smile saying, "you got this", or "I knew you could do it", depending on when it happens. After all these years, they still get so emotional for each other's performances. They are all more interested in each other's performances than their own.
From what I've read, HBO reached out to PTX and asked them to cover this song. Now, the original artist can't sing the song without computer help. So the fact that Mitch can come right from the start and slap you out of your seat, awesome. I also read in the same interview that Mitch admitted that learning how to rise and fall the notes so quickly was one of the most difficult things he's ever done. I've watched other reactors, who are music and music voice coaches, just go crazy over the video. And there are some videos of them doing this live. Mitch really shines live. And Scott is like a proud papa who really does love when he's listening to his friends/family. PTX is family. You should really react to the beginning of PTX. The sing off, season 3, and include the judges' comments. You will find the original pentaholic, Shawn Stockman, and the original Mitch slap. Which is epic. Most reactors are Mitch slapped originally with the Hallelujah video, which admittedly does have hundreds of millions of views. Understandable. Now, this wasn't a cover, this was an upgrade.
The first time I heard the original song I was like "this is so not my thing but I bet Pentatonix would absolutely ROCK a cover of it". I was not disappointed when they actually did.
I always joke that the trio have hive mind. They have been singing together for so long that they know everyone will do exactly what they should be doing.
PTX PERFECTION 🔥. Yes, one of the most charming things about this group is the way they delight in the others’ extraordinary gifts. They are all individually extraordinary and together, they’re phenomenal ❤️🔥🙌
Mitch's voice control on this song just absolutely blows me away every single time. And the fact that the whole thing was done apparently in one take, is just so incredibly impressive that it defies belief. Thanks for reacting to this! It's so much fun to see someone else discovering all the gems that lie in the Pentatonix treasure chest. Cheers!
I think you hit the nail on the head. Scott is known for smiling at or basking in the others performances (especially mitch but in general and even friends outside of the band). They all have those moments of pride for each other. Not only musically. In a recent podcast kevin went off about what a fierce and impressive mother kirstin is. There was an interview this christmas where they all went around and said a compliment about each other and it was nothing surface level about those compliments. I think it was an iHeart interview. In general, they love music, passion and singing with others. And each other! That makes for some long lasting magic!
I think you'd really enjoy checking out their behind the scenes video 'Recording of Evergreen'! It dips into their like process and you can just SEE how they all really enjoy each other's joy in performing!
Their smiles make my day. Every time I hear them sing. And they support each other. The fact that Avi with his AMAZING voice was content for so long to be more bass than a singer. Him and Kevin together are my dream team.
I loved your reaction. I could see your joy beaming in your eyes and alllll over your face. There was a point when you put your hand on your heart, and it reminded me of something. I love cats. And, when my cats hear me heading towards where I keep their treats, they get a look on their face which says: "My heart has a happy!" That is what your face looked like. And for all of us pentaholics all over the world, I am sure we can all relate to that sentiment. PTX makes my heart "has a happy" too. In fact, that would make great PTS merch. Hoodies that say: "PTX makes my heart has a happy".
When this first came out I listened to it over and over. I love the chill jazzy vibe. The appreciation and love they have for each other's talent comes thru in their music. When I finally listened to the original I was dumbfounded that they could work their magic on it.
Good reaction! I think your put your finger on something I have noticed...they love each other and they absolutely love singing together! And for me Kirstie often embodies that, as I notice her looking at one of the others as they sing as though she is appreciating, in the moment, the talent of her partners in song. They give off such a feeling of joy in singing together.
They listen so well to one another, I love that. They do these videos by sitting together in a studio and singing the song a few times. Then they release the one they like the best. I think you’re right, they appreciate each other, always. Loved your reaction, well done. Peace …
Spot on! The reason why Pentatonix is so special is their relationship - they all love each other's voices and are so proud of each other. They are an actual family. I also love how much they love their fans. I really didn't like the original of this song and I know that Kiiara cannot sing it live because it's all electronic effects. Mitch just said "that's ok, I'll just sit on a couch and do all that sliding just with my voice". :)
Yeah, this is one of the most extreme differences between a not-so-great original and their utterly amazing cover! If you want to see one where it's actually pretty tight, i.e. their cover isn't really 'better' just 'different', maybe do a double reaction to Pentatonix vs. Clean Bandit, "Rather Be". I love both songs equally, maybe with a _slight_ edge to the original, which, I mean... it's PTX, so that's a hell of a compliment!
Saw other comments asking for Avi's solo music YES PLEASE!!!! You will be very surprised at how talented this man is! SOOOOOOOOO much more than just a bass. Most will start with Change on the Rise his first release after leaving PTX, but there also is amazing music while he was still with PTX under the name Avriel and the Sequoias, all the way through his latest release Move Our Souls. he has recorded only 2 covers OutKast's Hey Ya and Bill Withers Lean on Me, both amazing. And he dis an amazing cover of House of the Rising Sun during a livestream.
Loved the look on your face when then went into the ending. It usually takes the reactor a moment or two to realize their alternating. You caught on right away. Their syncronization on this always blows my mind, and it's even more amazing live.
Great reaction! There is a love and respect for each other, in this group, that transcends the usual egos you find in so much of the music industry. PTX is a family, but not like the dysfunctional families with whom we deal with daily. The music is the thing, and they believe that the love they share comes through with every song they sing, and every moment they’re together. Kevin, Matt, and now Kirsten have established families outside the group, which will probably enhance their cohesiveness not detract from it. So many other artists don’t think that they need family, and that the band is the only one they want. The establishment of family lends necessary balance to a hectic schedule, and a place of refuge. I’m looking forward to years of exceptional music, and it’s the balance that will keep them strong.
I think I heard you throw in a quick compliment to Kirstie. I had to watch this a few times before I realized how much she is doing in this -- harmonizing with Avi's bass, then throwing in a quick duet with Scott, then harmonizing on the chorus, etc.
She's absolutely the glue in this, but it's so seamless and understated that it can go unnoticed. Sheer vocal gymnastics. Mitch gets a lot of justifiable accolades, Kirstie reaps plenty of her own, but what the pair of them bring as a combined talent is what really sets PTX apart in many ways, I think.
Once again I enjoy your reaction. I didn't know the Kiara song either so after listening to this a couple times I went and watched it. My. goodness. I had to force myself to watch it - so cluttered and over done. Not for me. Came back to this version and loved it even more. I'll add my vote for the BTS Making of Evergreen as well. I really think you'll appreciate seeing how they collaborate, how they put together music. It's fascinating and so fun to watch.
The only thing wrong with this cover is it is too short. I HAVE played it on repeat for extended periods many, many, times. Whatever PTX song I am listening to tends to be my favorite in any given moment, but if forced to select all-time favorites, Gold goes in my top five PTX cover list somewhere, possibly even number one. The Kiara song is interesting, and enjoyable in it's way, but I wouldn't add it to a playlist. This is in pretty much all of my play lists.
I love your reactions, so genuine! I'd love for you to check out "Come Along - th-cam.com/video/u8rT6ij0PSo/w-d-xo.html " and/or "Can't Hold Us (one of my favorites still!) - th-cam.com/video/OglS3Q0Zxik/w-d-xo.html "
I love how you express the feeling many of us have watching PTX enjoy each other doing what they all love. Don't know if you have watched the Recording of Evergreen yet, but don't miss it even if not as a reaction )although I would be happy to see that ... again...for the fourth or fifth time. Terrific view of them working out songs.
Beautiful sentiment at the end. Working toward a hard goal with a group of motivated people all enjoying being with a group of motivated people working toward a hard goal is the best. Even though the motivation or area of contribution for each can create subgroups, the cohesiveness of the group as a whole stays bound to the goal. Strikes deeply for this old band/theater kid.
Wonderful insights, both from the reviewer and some comments. You’ve given words for something that I’ve been searching to express. What makes them so delightful, apart from their masterful musicianship and arranging, is their joy in the performance and in each other. I’ve come to think of their songs as painted and polished aural canvases, always restrained beauty. Love, joy and fun are the qualities I get from PTX. And sometimes the visuals are on the same level, as in Havana and Hallelujah. They both remind me of paintings from old masters, the aural and visual magnifying each other. But, as you point out, they really only need some couches, mics, a darkish room and each other to capture us. I love the casual vibe here, just friends hanging. But while we’re here, let’s blow some minds with our music. Thank you for your thoughts. I’m now a subscriber.
I was surprised we didn't hear any specific mention of Avi's great performance in "Gold" from this reactor. Not just his 2 bass drops, but also the solid syncopation while the trio did their trade-off thing toward the end. His and Kevin's work really made the song.
Great reaction! I haven't heard you react to PTX for quite a while. Also good that you listened to Kiiara's original, because then you see how difficult it must have been for Mitch and the group to perform this. Kiiara used all sorts of synth and computerized tricks to do her song...and then here's PTX giving an incredible, moving and so much better version of her song, just sitting on a couch with mics...no computerized vocal tricks needed. I hope you do more PTX ...like: Come Along, Coffee In Bed( original), Praying ( Kesha cover...lyric video only),I Can't help Falling In Love With You.
Please react to Pentatonix “The making of their album Evergreen” they have so much fun recording. You can see what you’re saying about how much they love to create their music. With Ben Bram
The Kiara version did not appeal to me, and I felt like it went on forever. The PTX version was so much better. I enjoyed it, and I was surprised when it ended. I wanted more. How's that for an upgrade?
I don't hate the original, but it's definitely not my style. I love the PTX version though! And yes they all seem to really love the process of creating a song, whether a cover or original, as well as performing it. They also love doing it with each other & appreciate the others' talents. When you watch bts stuff you see how they really like & support each other, but also sometimes during performances you catch them giving supportive/happy looks to each other & even catch Scott flat out openly adoring Mitch's voice (like in the Popspring video when he knows a certain gorgeous high note is about to come & slap everyone he closes his eyes, throws back his head & throws out his arms like he's in church).
I appreciate that you have your preferences and opinions, but I will thank you kindly to not text-shout at me and certainly don't ever presume to give me an order. I'll run my videos in the way that I deem best. If you don't like them that's perfectly fine. 4 of them have said they have to be careful when Mitch goes off as they get lost in it and forget their own bits.
What PENTATONIX dies is PURE EXCELLENCE 🌟
It's passion. All the greatest art is propelled by passion.

Done in one take, I read that too. But look at them: they are not even looking at each other, yet their entrances and synchronization are spot on.
One of my favorites.
You get it. 😉❤
They are pretty mind blowing. Thank you for the great reaction to that awesome Pentatonix performance. Thanks.
That is my absolute favorite song they've done!
Ben Bram does the arrangements with them when they record
That smile on Scott’s face is because Mitch is singing. He’s shown the love for his voice and abilities time and time again.
