I'm from California , and 70 years old . This area has always been a fire area for as long as I have been around . This time it burned some expensive real estate . Instead of doing something decades ago we act surprised that it happened . Fire breaks and fire retardant landscaping would have lessoned this impact , but a few years from now it will be a couple miles away and we will be surprised it happened .

Wildfires usually occur in remote areas not residential areas. The point was that fire hydrants are to designed to pump that amount of volume when every single house is on fire. Traditional Wildfire techniques are being used in conjunction with city water. It's like trying to put your house fire out with a garden hose, it's not happening

Not sure what fire hydrants are supposed to do when the winds are 80mph. By the time you get the hoses hooked up the fire's already burned everything around you and the next 2 or 3 fire hydrants up the road as well.
The magnitude of this fire and the wind conditions made it impossible to fight the fire. That’s all there is to it. Does it make sense to you now?

I watch the fire helicopter put out fires last night live, finally they can fly. The winds were too strong
ALL the numerous fires were planned just like the Maui fire was planned. Some of the homes that were destroyed were HIGHLY valuable but not as much as the homes that will be built to replace them. THAT was the intention.

80 mph winds and extreme dryness could cause anything to start them, also around the time those three fires started at the same time, a major wind gust hit L.A. Also power lines getting knocked down can cause the fires, hell a single ember from the lit bud of a cigarette could burn down half of Hollywood under these conditions

Yep. I'm an NC resident and remember when they laughed at hurricane victims mostly because of certain people's political views.
In 2018 the Paradise, California Camp Fire killed 85 people and destroyed thousands of homes. Shortly thereafter, the ‘This Old House’ program dedicated a brief season to that community and helped rebuild one of the local residents’ homes. In one of the episodes of that short season, the show’s hosts carefully explained many simple steps that homeowners can take to dramatically reduce the likelihood of their homes being destroyed by a flash fire. Their advice included such things as closing in the eaves of the house so that sparks can’t get into the attic, installing fire resistant window glass and fire-retardant roof shingles, as well as not having wood structures or piles of firewood stored near the house, nor bushes grown against the house. Aerial footage of the Paradise, California community in the aftermath showed acres of homes destroyed, while well-protected homes right in the middle of the fire’s path remained intact.
When I now look at some of the aerial footage of the communities devastated by this week’s fires in California, I can’t help but notice how many neighborhood trees survived while the surrounding homes were destroyed. Apparently, even the trees can resist fire better than the matchstick homes that were built in those neighborhoods. The bottom line is that nothing was learned from the Camp Fire tragedy. I have great sympathy for those who died, were injured, or who lost loved ones. However, to misquote an old adage: “You can lead Californians to water, but you can’t make them think!”
