I lived in LA for most of my life and feel for the owners and their loss, but I never drove along PCH and "marveled" at the houses on the beachside. Mostly I wished they were not there blocking the beautiful views and not allowing us mere mortals the ability to use the beaches by restricting public access. Sad though it is, I think it's time for the state to consider buying the land back from the owners at market prices and make it available for public use. The homes are gone and should not be rebuilt.
Why was it so important for you to access the beach at the exact same spot as those houses? I too have lived in Southern California and am aware of the mile after mile of public beaches with huge parking lots and concession stands, lifeguard towers, etc. With all those public beaches available, were they full when you wanted to go to the beach? Why not use the public beaches already provided, since there is way more than is even necessary. Why are you so jealous and envious that you think we must take private property (even if paid by the state), just so you can get even more beach access when so much already exits?
For those saying beaches are public, it’s only public to’ mean high tide’. Which is pretty much limited to the wet sand only. Also, the rich homeowners sometimes make it difficult for the public to access the beaches.
The red tape and environmental impact reports required to rebuild on a fragile beach are going to make it cost prohibitive to rebuild there. Best for county to purchase all destroyed parcels and make them public beaches. These homes were grandfathered in. A vacant lot would be impossible to build on today. This is the reality of coastline development
All of these beaches are public access. Celebrity spotting on Malibu beach is very common, as are stairs and pathways from the road to the beach. You can't own a private beach in California.
Youre a cold hearted ass*****. Theres no such thing as a private beach. No one is hogging anything. Everyone here deserves empathy rich or poor. Its a tragedy to everyone.
These are all extremely expensive homes. I feel for the residents of neighborhoods like Altadena that struggled to afford their modest homes, and many couldn't afford the insurance. Many elderly have lost absolutely everything and are completely helpless, hopeless.
Put aside the hatred towards people who lived there. If this is not firefighting/city mismanagement, I don't know what is. Their houses are literally right next to the water and other houses survived.
There no hate, just disgust. You're forgetting who backed Newsom in his last campaign. Millionaires and Billionaires. Now that very backing is coming home to roost, which the Rich have their own properties smoldering. Its mismanagement and incompetence at its finest. Money does not buy intelligence or competence. This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for California to invest in its water infrastructure and wildfire preparedness. Without swift action, the state risks facing even more devastating disasters in the future.
Burning embers falling from the fire on the hillside could easily ignite the beachfront buildings. The newer buildings built to updated fire codes (especially roofs and building materia) could survive. Many of the places along the water are old by SoCal standards, being built in the 1920-1940 timeframe.
i was on zillow looking at these homes like a few months ago, and they were all so expensive in the 6-10-40 million dollar range, especially the sea side ones
@@kelleynoni9758 Such an insensitive comment. Not everyone who lost their homes were rich. Some people purchased their homes long before this area became affluent.
A man's entire street burnt down except his house. He used a garden hose and put out little fires, on his house and property. He said there were zero fire trucks.
Duh, he put out the little fires before fire gear was required. He had a Covid mask on to filter the outside smoke. If Im lieing to you why is his house the only one left?
@bradlong7941 that's what I'm thinking, the pure neglect of the area and then the fact that only specific areas are burned. How do cars melt but trees 5 to 10 feet aways still have green. It might even be another government. Warfare changes, what better way to cause chaos
Perhaps the ocean front should now be made into a National Park like Yosemite or Yellowstone for all to enjoy and not just the wealthy. 2:58 Wow, someone else thinking something similar, that they were no longer allowing construction. That whole area would look so much better if it's allowed to be in it's natural state. It should be protected for all to enjoy.
Even if they are able to rebuild, homeowners should surrender that coastal strip back to nature. Annual wind and fire conditions will not change, so it just may be a futile effort to rebuild.
They should not be allowed to rebuild those houses on the ocean and those perched precariously in the hills and on bluffs, it’s just too dangerous. The land needs to be wild and for everyone to enjoy.
Wait, if the house is too dangerous for those locations, how can the "public" enjoy those lots? That is just a foolish thing to say. Why does a house sitting on the rocks and next to the road have anything to do with the sand and water line? Answer, "it doesn't" as the beach was available to anyone who wanted to walk along it and swim in it if necessary.
This is why the media is losing the information battle. So ignorant of what they report. Always the same... " oh my goodness how does it hit two houses but the one right next to it is fine?" It's called wind and embers. Doing some basic sleuthing before you report would inform you on these things.

PCH was such a staple of my freedom when I got my first car at 18. I would drive my Acura RSX up and down, hitting stops, visiting friends, making memories on the beaches. I was a jr. Please stay safe out there. So sad. 😢❤
Incredibly sad. Countries like Norway (Norwegians call their country the forest nation) have long ago developed forest management practices to prevent this. While nothing is foolproof, smart forest management would have significantly reduced the damage. It's not like this is not predictable. Someone just blew it and keeps blowing it. This is unnecessary suffering. Why hasn't Newsome and the mayor resigned? Good forest management would have cost much less than the re-building and suffering of all this damage. Maybe some of that $24 Billion California has spent on their homeless problem, which seems to be worse than ever, should have been spent to benefit all the homeowner and business owners. $24 Billion seems like a very generous amount. Where did all that money go? Did anyone purchase new, expensive multimillion dollar homes recently?
A lot of the problem was this house were built to close together. Some of this house did not even have 4 inches between each other. Alot were add on upon add on. As the rent and mortgages get higher more people start to build more around the houses to bring in more tenants. Make up that difference in the rent increases. As populations increase and gets dense. Housing goes up in two to 6 story buildings. Most people around neighborhoods will notice that a lot of single-family homes in time become bigger and bigger. Then a lot are renting garages and some build little buildings and rent them out. Most are out of code. It will be very costly to build because of inflation. Building materials are very costly. You don't see this problem in Mexico and South America. Most of those houses are built out of cinders blocks and concrete. A lot of the concrete commercial building were hurt. If you are going to build in fire prone areas, you might think brick or cinder block or concrete walls. Bricks are cheaper it's just more labor intensive. But as you can see the only thing standing is the brick chimineas.
What is the obsession with living there in Malibu? It looks absolutely congested and chaotic. It’s a tiny sliver of beach that looks like a few waves could wipe out. And it’s not all that picturesque IMHO.
I remember a recent news story about people who had those homes on the beach were trying to kick beach goers off as if they own the beach. Someone need to do a follow up to see if those properties are still standing.
Odd where the fires only affected a string of homes but no natural fuel to spark the fires. Some say it is like Maui with directed energy, some say power grid issues but a cars aluminum hubcaps will not melt in a typical cat fire on asphalt without other combustible sources close enough to produce necessary heat.
Last round of big wildfires, ignorant people were saying “car windscreens don’t melt until (random high temp of various glass types) because they didn’t realise that windscreens these days are resins in a laminate sandwich of thin glass. A “typical car fire in ashphalt” is TYPICALLY artificially extinguished. And it’s not surrounded by firenado winds. Use your common sense. Aluminium oxide coatings melt at campfire temps. Aluminium certainly will melt when a car on fire with nobody tryng to extinguish it is surrounded by flammable oil products (plastic house siding, lawn furniture etc) and other manmade stuff, let alone a structure on fire next to it.
Larry Ellison of Oracle computers just built a 42,000 square foot mega-beach house up the road in Carbon (Malibu Beach). It’s valued at $+300 million. 🤷🏼♂️
And just imagine how long it will take for them to pull permits to rebuild in regulation crazed California. I was also made aware from another TH-cam news video that probably none of those homes on the beach are up to code because they were built so long ago.
@ That is very true many were built a long time ago (50’s, 60’s, 70’s), and the ones still standing are mostly the newer ones REBUILT with modern, flame resistant materials. The (worthless) Mayor did say red tape WOULD BE CUT to allow fast rebuilding, but we’ll see……
Conspiracy theory or conspiracy observation? And this is nothing like Maui. I never saw the raging wild fires that descended on Lahaina and there is a lot of greenery in this video, hmmmm....must stop thinking and follow the narratives...global warming works even during overnight lows of 45F and highs around 70, right?
SoCal reservoirs are full By law 90% full or more year round. Trust me, the lakes up in NorCal ensure this, thats why they are all at 50-60% capacity..Shasta Oroville Trinity Folsom Berryessa. Shall I continue? Stop making excuses for blatant incompetence of State County and Local governments.
What happened is sad, but the real question how the government and rich greediness allowed them to build houses right on the coastline with utter disregard for everything! Can they rule out building homes right on the beach? Mother Nature makes sure you pay for it!
When you're fighting fires in one area, it wouldn't make sense to give up on any headway you've made, and rush to a different fire and start all over again.
Several homes burned down along the beach, yet no fire to the homes behind up against the hills. The only explanation is no one was home to use their hose. A water hose woulda worked.
no direct mountain brush next to those homes. a wide highway fire gap on one side of homes. water on the other perimeter. how possible to just have a fire in between these two 'gaps'? lets just say 'very unusual'.
You never saw a fire up close? Those bright red things flying off are embers and they're hot as fk. When they land on a green tree or grass, they lack the energy to dry them out and start a fire. When they land on a house, it's already dried out and easily catches fire. Doesn't take much blown embers to catch a house on fire, and once it is, it's sending out more embers to the neighboring houses. If they land on one with a concrete roof or walls, they don't catch fire. If they land on asphalt, that catches fire real fast.
It’s a reminder of who is in control. That’s why it seems that way to everybody…. Google eastern winds in the Bible. It’s kind of got his signature all over it.
Get an education. Man makes perfect rectangles. If the neighbours house is fire proof a wind blown ember will burn just one wooden house. I'm in Australia. Americans are so dumb. Stupid. Ignorant.
being this close to the water you would have feared a flood rather than a fire.

Not really if you have an above room temperature IQ
Hot ash drops and creates spot fires that spread...
million dollar homes and you don't have a pump to pump sea water on to your house.... own fault
it's too difficult for some with uber wealth to think logically for their safety
Those homes were going to be washed away in the near future too close to the water line...
"Too" close
Make that area a public park.
For those saying beaches are public, it’s only public to’ mean high tide’. Which is pretty much limited to the wet sand only. Also, the rich homeowners sometimes make it difficult for the public to access the beaches.
And that's exactly why these lots should be returned to natural. Those dumps were almost in the (rising) sea anyway.
They will take the land and pay no one.
At this time empathy for those who hoard public access to beaches is very low.
All of these beaches are public access. Celebrity spotting on Malibu beach is very common, as are stairs and pathways from the road to the beach.
You can't own a private beach in California.
Entitlement and hubris.
Every square inch appears to be covered wow
@@APS_Incyou must not be from SoCal. They make it such a hostile environment. Sometimes even calling cops on people of color. Yea that’s privilege.
Youre a cold hearted ass*****. Theres no such thing as a private beach. No one is hogging anything. Everyone here deserves empathy rich or poor. Its a tragedy to everyone.
Houses burned to the ground with green trees still standing…..and still green……and green grass……..that’s still green
Exactly..
Gee you mean things that are full of water, and not dry like houses are?
Of course they won’t burn. They’re not dry.
99% are going to call you nuts. I'm not 99%.
So the fire pick and choose which homes to destroy on coast line
Did all the “NO TRESPASSING. VIOLATORS WILL BE ARRESTED” signs burn?
Those neighbors across the street got the view they always wanted.....😮
Take back the ocean front, more public access!
……there’s ALREADY miles, and miles, and MILES of public access!!!
HOw does fire cross the street and not damage plenty of houses?
The wind blows fire ambers around and where they land 🔥
water, water all around. Yet the houses all burned down....the irony!
The Rhyme of the Ancient Super Rich Californian...
These are all extremely expensive homes. I feel for the residents of neighborhoods like Altadena that struggled to afford their modest homes, and many couldn't afford the insurance. Many elderly have lost absolutely everything and are completely helpless, hopeless.
Reminds me Hawaii. Soooooo sad for many people. Could been prevent it. Praying for you California. 😢
Put aside the hatred towards people who lived there. If this is not firefighting/city mismanagement, I don't know what is.
Their houses are literally right next to the water and other houses survived.
Its just the natural beauty is now about a 20 million doller home and the first to shout climate change. looks like those homes changed the climate.
Leaders more focused on diversity than actual real problems.
Karma
There no hate, just disgust.
You're forgetting who backed Newsom in his last campaign. Millionaires and Billionaires.
Now that very backing is coming home to roost, which the Rich have their own properties smoldering.
Its mismanagement and incompetence at its finest. Money does not buy intelligence or competence.
This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for California to invest in its water infrastructure and wildfire preparedness. Without swift action, the state risks facing even more devastating disasters in the future.
Keep voting Democrat. That’ll fix it.
It's about building materials what burns and what is still standing.
Yes, it's interesting to see homes that have been destroyed next to homes that are still intact on the same stretch of beach.
They are rich people, Rich people who lose their houses get no pity.
@@kelleynoni9758
Such an insensitive comment. Not everyone who lost their homes were rich. Some people purchased their homes long before this area became affluent.
How much are they now?
Woman, why is it worse that the big beautiful homes (orB&Bs) are gone, rather than the homes of many, many more in densely populated trailer parks?
A man's entire street burnt down except his house. He used a garden hose and put out little fires, on his house and property. He said there were zero fire trucks.
This was deliberate
This can’t be true unless he had firefighter gear on all that fire and smoke around you will kill you
@@gracetheday There a news article about, FKtard, he did put on a mask and helmut. Its in a video crystal clear, idiot.
He did not have insurance....
While the others were relying on it....a.k.a insurance fraud ?
Duh, he put out the little fires before fire gear was required. He had a Covid mask on to filter the outside smoke. If Im lieing to you why is his house the only one left?
Now you can see the beautiful ocean. I hope the don’t rebuild..
How was the fire so selective? And by the ocean
D.E.W.?
Tornadoes are said to skip over houses while devastating entire neighborhoods.
@bradlong7941 that's what I'm thinking, the pure neglect of the area and then the fact that only specific areas are burned. How do cars melt but trees 5 to 10 feet aways still have green. It might even be another government. Warfare changes, what better way to cause chaos
@@istankimjong-unbutcantstan3398 yeah, but that's not fire
How? Your houses backyard is literally water.
If the fire didnt get these homes the ocean eventually would. Stupid place to build homes
Seems like they will lose it anyway with the first mega storm or tsunami. Maybe they will take this opportunity to move.
They should not be allowed to rebuild those houses on the ocean and those perched precariously in the hills and on bluffs, it’s just too dangerous. The land needs to be wild and for everyone to enjoy.
you live in a cave?
Wait, if the house is too dangerous for those locations, how can the "public" enjoy those lots? That is just a foolish thing to say. Why does a house sitting on the rocks and next to the road have anything to do with the sand and water line? Answer, "it doesn't" as the beach was available to anyone who wanted to walk along it and swim in it if necessary.
@@dwaynecoy1871 Well said. Also how much extra taxes are these people advocating for "public" access willing to pay for the owners to be compensated.
Here's to fire; she cooks our food when we are hungry, warms us when we're cold, and burns our asses when we lose respect for her power.
Well said!
Here's to fire; not the fire that ignites and burns the house down, but the fire that excites and brings the pants down.
I'm actually for not letting people build right on the beach.
This is why the media is losing the information battle. So ignorant of what they report. Always the same... " oh my goodness how does it hit two houses but the one right next to it is fine?"
It's called wind and embers. Doing some basic sleuthing before you report would inform you on these things.
It's called DEW.
It's wild searching Zillow for property values in Malibu while watching this. One home I saw was listed at 85 million.
It’s one of the most desirable places to live on earth
Beyoncé and Jay Z paid $200 million for a home up the street about 5-6 miles in Malibu in 2023 or 2024.
Another home sold for $225 million. 🤷🏼♂️
Well those who still have their fire insurance will be able to cash out and build elsewhere.

No. City and state need the tax revenue.
@@zzygyy So that's all that matters is tax dollars (that the gubment can waste away) ? I think that natural resources are WAY more important that houses built in the ocean.
@@mattywho8485 tax dollars. Also jobs for the working class. How many different people needed to maintain those houses. How maids and nannies out of work. How many less "doordash" customers. how much lost revenue to local restaurants. These homes generate tax revenue to help with social services in the city. Income tax revenue from workers.
Why I see trees still standing?
Because in these DEW fires, the things that should burn don't, and the things that shouldn't burn do. 🧐
PCH was such a staple of my freedom when I got my first car at 18. I would drive my Acura RSX up and down, hitting stops, visiting friends, making memories on the beaches. I was a jr. Guard for beaches and harbours. PCH was my gateway to Santa Barbara when I went to university there. I’m 41 and moved to Canada in 2014, and I am gutted by what I’ve been seeing. Please stay safe out there. So sad. 😢❤
I’m so glad that most of the beach water, trees, bushes, and grass are fine.
More questions than answers😮
It looks like a charcoal barbeque grill after use.
Build concrete houses with water tanks underneath 😢 such carnage
What is the obsession with living there in Malibu? It looks absolutely congested and chaotic. It’s a tiny sliver of beach that looks like a few waves could wipe out. And it’s not all that picturesque IMHO.
It's just so one can SAY "they're from Malibu"
Never been so glad to live in the humble Antelope Valley in my life
I remember a recent news story about people who had those homes on the beach were trying to kick beach goers off as if they own the beach. Someone need to do a follow up to see if those properties are still standing.
finally people can see the ocean during the drive!
Great! No construction on beaches anywhere.
It's weird to see some ok and some just gone.
I see a crime of opportunity here. They had the opportunity so they torched them.
Turning 67 today born in California. Never have I experienced the disappointment in either party as I am hearing and seeing now!🇺🇸
The two party system is an illusion.
Happy birthday.
Praying for California. I dont understand why they could not use the ocean water?
They could, if they had bothered to invest in a pump. There are only so many fire trucks and I guess they were somewhere else.
Wildlifes from behind, tsunami from the front, earthquake from below, but they will rebuild there.... Meanwhile insurance rates go up for everyone.
It was extremely windy. Embers can easily travel hundres of yards and ignite in new areas.
The difference is Lahaina was on land people wanted. This area is on land people can't get rid of due to beach erosion.
Seems strange to me that the very expensive homes near the beach with all that water available burned to the ground...
How are these billionaires going to replace their
20+ million dollar beach front homes
Home insurances across the country are going to go up - that's how.
The (worthless) Mayor did say red tape WOULD BE CUT to allow fast rebuilding, but we’ll see……
@@interesante80 Yeah, so we have to pay because these idiots want to live IN the ocean ?
Those houses should have never been built, and should not be rebuilt.
fire insurance cancelled, mayor out of town, no water in fire hydrants, no water in reservoirs hmm....
Actually the main reservoir is full. I live 3 blocks from it.
If only those homes were close to a source of water. 🤔
SoCal reservoirs are full
By law 90% full or more year round.
Trust me, the lakes up in NorCal ensure this, thats why they are all at 50-60% capacity..Shasta Oroville Trinity Folsom Berryessa. Shall I continue? Stop making excuses for blatant incompetence of State County and Local
governments.
The homes that remain standing are probably the ones that The Lord decided to spare.
This video has the signs of a lot of corruption
Right!!!!!!. Thats my chat....
Just like the other fires.
And yet you haven't been able to outline any logical explanation
What happened is sad, but the real question how the government and rich greediness allowed them to build houses right on the coastline with utter disregard for everything! Can they rule out building homes right on the beach? Mother Nature makes sure you pay for it!
Im struggling with the level of incompetence that allows buildings on the beach feet away from water are allowed to burn down
The winds dont pay any attention to permissions
When you're fighting fires in one area, it wouldn't make sense to give up on any headway you've made, and rush to a different fire and start all over again.
How to homes on the west side burn, but not on the east side ? The fire came from the east, makes no sense
Several homes burned down along the beach, yet no fire to the homes behind up against the hills. The only explanation is no one was home to use their hose. A water hose woulda worked.
Or they burned down their homes to get paid. Either from insurance or from FEMA.
Some house are built from bricks and concrete.. others were built of wood.
no direct mountain brush next to those homes. a wide highway fire gap on one side of homes. water on the other perimeter. how possible to just have a fire in between these two 'gaps'? lets just say 'very unusual'.
Ironically, this seems like a controlled burn to me… Smh!
Controlled? With hurricane-like winds? No, it looked like a wild fire.
100%
It’s a reminder of who is in control. That’s why it seems that way to everybody…. Google eastern winds in the Bible. It’s kind of got his signature all over it.
Good point!
BS😂, did you ever heard of the Santa Ana dry winds
Is it worth rebuilding...,
So it jumped the road? Ya right
Did you actually watch the news footage of the fire and embers blowing all over the place with 50 MPH winds ?
@mattywho8485 Obviously not or wouldn't have asked the question.DEW weapon burns , go back to watching the news please.
Natural fires don't burn in perfect rectangular spaces.
Exactly!!!!!!!!
Get an education. Man makes perfect rectangles. If the neighbours house is fire proof a wind blown ember will burn just one wooden house.
I'm in Australia. Americans are so dumb. Stupid. Ignorant.
Specific homes burning??
That totally sucks.
